Some of the greatest music ever written.
Very wise that Wagner lets it end nearly silent after 4hours drama..
The greatest orchestra in the world to play and interpret Wagner!!!
Thank. You! Thank you Maestro Maazel!
He was an American that truly made the Berlin Philharmonic perform to its top potential. Mazel, who passed away, along with Valery Gergiev, are the top 2 conductors. Listen to Gergiev conduct Prokofiev's The Firebird and it makes your skin stand up. Truly magnificent.
@@fthornberry3032Stravinky’s Firebird? Or another piece by Prokofiev?
viena philharmonic can do better
Maazel's timing of this piece is impeccable. In tune with the great composers preferred interpretation.
Too fast for me. Not in concert but in the opera house when youve been waiting for this for 5 hours, ut should be savored. LONG pause before the final Brunhilde theme. This is still great!
Wow! What a mighty brass section!
You are so right Kenny Ishi. If you are going to play Wagner well, you must have a great brass section..and they do!
Brass is the thing at this point in the opera. Barenboim knows that well, also.
Just imagine those poor people who never go to see opera because of all the singing. They miss out on this.
I'm one of them
@@lalalalelele1189 Poor you!
Well I absolutely love classical music but for me there's not much worse than classical singing unfortunately.
There are only a few exceptions from that...
@@lalalalelele1189 Well I used to be like you. Operatic singing was the bane of my existance. I still think it is rather ridiculos to sing the same 4 verses of a stanza more than once and for the life of me cannot find much enjoyment in operas where the singers haver to constantly repeat how "furious, furious, fffuuuuhohohohohrrious, fuhuhurious, furioooooooooooos" they are.
But thank god for Wagner inventing the music drama, which is more like a sung play where usually no one repeats any phrase, and the orchestra is equally if not more important than the singers.
Same kind of people who won't try an ethnic restaurant, who won't try a new destination for vacation, won't try anything other than General's Chicken in a Chinese restaurant and asks why they didn't bring fortune cookies, 😜 thinknLiberace was a great pianist, think Barry Manilow is great music, and Friends is the height of television.
This is just perfect: the music and the conducting!
Wonderful performance ! Probably the greatest composer of all time
Maazel - the master!
Fantastisch!
Magisterial and magnificent.
Superb....composition, playing, conducting.
O heilige Götter! Wunderbar!
Nietzsche oder nichts ! Ob Nietzsche mit dem Götter Part einverstanden wäre ? ;-)
"O heilige Götter" aus dem ersten Aufzug ist auch toll.
RIP Maestro ❤️
The operas are very hard work to watch, but Wagner's instrumental music has so much power and something like the Siegfried Idyll is so beauriful.
I'm just imagining how one would possibly stage a flashmob of the finale of Götterdämmerung... 😉
How did you think of that 😂
Magnificent!!!
MARAVILLOSO FINAL DE MAAZEL Y LA BERLINER FELICITACIONES Y GRACIAS POR SUBIRLO.-
🎹 Glorious conducting of the greatest of all composers... Richard Wagner. 🎹
Maazel is the spitting image of Sir John Gielgud. Poreless skin & an impeccable demeanor.
Lorin Maazel one of the last great maestros! RiP!
Stunning
Beautiful!
Loris Mazel, an American conductor that made the Berlin Philharmonic perform as an orchestra ought to perform. We miss you, Sir!
when it comes to music, nationality means zero
Genial, absolutament genial.
Awesome... It is my favourite list, and I play it from time to time when I have a spare moment to leave anuthing else aside and taste the gorgeous sound of the BPO, Maazel knew every corner of the score and conducted it in a manner I have only heard from Mehta, Barenboim and Thielemann among the conductors still alive. No one else comes even close to this. Then in the past of course we had Knapperstsbusch and Furtwängler, perhaps Strauss and Kempe.
Grandios! Fantastisch!
Berlin is Berlin!
that we can all recognize that the Berliner Philharmoniker is one of its best streaks and also that it is one of the best philharmonic orchestras of the world.
No problem. Un fraternal saludo desde Colombia 🇨🇴🖑
Superb control, thank you meastro Maazel
Danke Maestro Maazel
Ich danke ihnen dafür.
Sehr gut!!
1:25 so intense!
Absolutely amazing
Good job!!!
Great orchestra - punk conductor
Does anyone know whether the brief sad motif at the beginning of the clip and at 1:40 is a recurring motif in Wagner's Ring cycle? I've heard lots of Wagner's instrumental themes, but I haven't listened to the Ring in its entirety. If it's recurring, do you know where in the Ring cycle i could hear it? Thank you in advance.
czcams.com/video/vb_g8GXrZPc/video.html That glorious snippet is first heard in Die Walküre at the 1:25 mark. Then again in Götterdämmerung - Redemption through love
@@GreBunTristanundIsolde Wow. I am SO impressed that (1) you knew this, and (2) that you took the trouble to respond. Thank you so very much! You have done your good deed for the day.
@@michaelbailey790 It's also worth noting that this is the only time this motive gets repeated in the entire ring. It only appears in "Die Walküre" at that specific moment and is never heard again until the very end of "Götterdämmerung".
It’s also the only motif that Wagner ever gave a name too. In the early 2000s a letter of his was published wherein he called it “In Praise of Brunhilda.” Probably the most important motif in the whole Ring Cycle
@@CapnKV Thanks for the information

I never knew Groucho plays the Violin.
The best.
how can i find this song on spotify?
edit: its "Brünhilde's Immolation Scene" towards the end. theres a version with NY Phil and Bernstein
Nate Johnson try to find James Levine and the met.
George Szell also conducted Cleveland in a fantastic recording of Siegfried's Funeral March and the final scene in the album "Wagner Without Words"
You may find a million versions of it if you search for "Zürück vom Ring", which is the last line of this opera and of the Ring cycle, and leads directly to this orchestral finale.
An opera's "song titles" are often the first line that is sung in that particular segment -- it makes more sense in older formats built on Arias and Recitatives, and it's a pattern used for CDs of Wagner even if it makes less sense for the 'music drama' format. This is useful knowledge if you ever need to search for highlights: "Leb' wohl", "Winterstürme" and "Hojotoho!" in Walküre; "Sorglose Schmiede", "Bin ich nun frei?" and "Heda! Heda, hedo!" from Rheingold; "Heil dir, Sonne!" and "Nothung! Nothung! Neidliches Schwert!" for Siegfried; "Heil dir, Günther!", "Brünnhilde, heilige Braut!" and of course "Zürück vom Ring!" from Götterdämmerung.
Pardon the garrulous answer. I like this music.
Is this the Ring ohne Worte?
vesteel
I guess it is a part of it.
vesteel The last Part has no words in it 👍🏻
vesteel, it is. Jonas, you're right, but Maazel edited the Ring to be an hour long and not require any voices. That's the Ring without words. That's vesteel's question. But anyway, the last part does have words: Hagen shouts 'zurück vom Ring'.
Yes, this is Ring ohne Worte.
Jep!
Wagner es un sustento para el espiruto ,para el alma 👁️🌹❤️
Wagner wrote movie music before movies.
I prefer the analogue concert hall.
Qué belleza!!!
And then I saw a new Heaven and a new Earth. For the old Heaven and the old Earth passed away.
Revelation 21:1
Tony Barde it made me think exactly to the same. Final destruction of the Earth and delievering it from sin, then to create anew new heaven and earths....that sweet melody at the end is the final creation
@@kenandigrazia13 When I listen to this, I imagine the Last Judgement and final victory over Satan
what's the name of the 3rd trombone ?

マゼールがベルリンフィルを指揮している!
tonal o atonal. (?)
Wow. What’s with all of the empty seats?
This video was probably set up that way to concentrate on the electronic recording because they may have had more than one take, and they would not have wanted to be distracted by a continuous performance with an audience.
Too "nice", to quiet, not great or epic enough. I think Keilberths version from Bayreuth is the best
It doesnt take too much to be' better than Maazel.what a overrated conductor

Naci music 😉
"Z" not" c".
Wagner wrote it before Nazis 😉
Stupid guy: Get your facts right. Wagner lived before the Nazis. You Left-Wings are so dump like hell!
Useless conductor. They can Play by themselves
The Conductor is important in this... not even well practiced bands would coordinate well with each other without the conductor, especially if it is as big as this...
Can you elaborate on that statement? And why are you always commenting in the BPO comment section about conductors are not useful. And I'm sure the BPO doesn't all consists of idiots and they know more than us if their conductor is useful or not.
