I think you have to listen to the lyrics and the story behind it on Atle's song. It's about his daughter and I think me and every parent in Norway feel very strongly about it. 🤩
My favourite from this semi is definitely Freya. And I love that Ben Adams wrote Honestly and Gaute Ormassen wrote Freya. So we could have a Keith vs Jim battle at the final!!
Yay! I've been waiting for this :D So excited for tomorrow. This semi is a hard one for me. I think my favs are: 1. Freya 2. Not Meant to Be 3. Triumph Also love Atle's song, written for his daughter (his masterpiece!). I'm just not THAT big of a ballad person. Also: Skrellex makes me happy.
Freya just shocked me when I first listened to it. It’s defo the best MGP had to offer this year. I don’t know if it’s just me but I think Maria could get top 10 or even potentially top 5, do you agree because I seriously think I’m the only one that thinks this.
I presume you mean at Eurovision? Hmmmm yea possibly. Norway have an excellent top 10 record so they always need to be thought of as a contender to finish there
Thank you Tom. I'm so glad I was not the only one that pointed out that Eline Thorpe sounded like Sigrid, and especially the: "Strangers" song. Not as in a copy, but similarity, which to me is a bonus.
Weird thing. At beginning Freya's song instrumental/beat reminds me of "Mein Teil" from Rammstein. And Cha Cha Cha song from Finland goes same with Rammstein. Maybe....just maybe 2 Rammstein songs at Eurovision?
Oh boy do we disagree on MGP this year Tom! Heheh, but that's all the fun of Eurovision. Always enjoy hearing your thoughts on the songs regardless. No idea what's gonna happen tomorrow, but my vote will go to Atle I think. 🙂 And I will be in the arena for the final, where I'm sure you already know where my vote is going. Overall semi 3 I think is the best one, but *no shocker here* my winner came in the first semi. Excited to see who the last qualifiers are.
Haha don’t worry, we will weather this storm together ⛈ ☔️. Don’t get me wrong, I like honestly but just not compres to the too high standards I was expecting. I’m still cool if she wins and I hope that she can make the most of it and get a very decent result.
Anderz Wrethov, who co-wrote Triumph and Wild, also had a hand in Margaret's Cool Me Down. Seriously, the endings of Triumph and Cool Me Down are almost identical...
Triumph sounds soooooooooooo similar to Wild, almost like wild was put into a recycling bin and this is what came out im not complaining, im pro-recycling - save the planet!
Same top 3!! It's definitely a stronger semi than the previous 2 but Maria, Akuvi, and Tiril are my top 3 favourites. Great songs. I am also a sucker for the mythological pop songs, so Freya is right up there in my faves, Triumph is a Bop, and Break it is probably my favourite ballad in MGP this year. But I've been 3 for 3 so far so I feel like this is the semi where I'm gonna lose at least one. Probably to Masterpiece.
I feel like if those 3 perform well, they would be the 3 to go through. after swingits performance, it was less of a shock to me that they went through cos their show was good. So Anyone who really performs well has a shot
My favourite not meant to be by far. I know unpopular opinion. But i really love the real lyrics and how the song grabs you. Realistlicly it really depends on how well the live does but it probably will not quilify because it is not so popular so i gather.
My Top 3 from this semi: 1. Atle 2. Maria Celin 3. Skrellex Atle's song is very Swedish. It's quite similar to: "John Lundvik - Too Late For Love" "Cornelia Jakobs - Hold Me Closer" On paper it would probably have won Melodifestivalen. So you shall not look away from the international jury in the final sending this to Liverpool 👀 Although it is still a question if Europe will allow us to cruise to the top on the back of melodic pop 😅
@@ESCTom Yes! I think they’re trying to find out if they want jury votes or not. Had until 2019, then no until this year again. At the same time, they need to find a format people want to watch - in 2021 and 2022 almost no one watched the semis; therefore, none pre-qualifiers this year!
By far the best quality semifinal of this years MGP Tom Can't profess to be anything other than slightly underwhelmed by this years edition. However.......this semi is full of quality. There are positives for all 7 of these songs. I started off loving Akuvi and "Triumph" but by the end of listening to all of the songs, i don't think i could find a qualifying slot for her. Why is this semi so stacked.? It seems unfair but hey, maybe im being too subjective. "Freya" i need to see live, as i think, if this is presented properly, it could be a moment. Im a sucker for Atle's song. It's just my bag and then i could draw lots for qualifier 3 and wouldn't be disappointed with whoever emerged from the bag! Well done on not skipping any song from this years contest. All i can say is, that shows, you obviously haven't attempted MESC.....arghhhhhh🙉🙉🙉
no i totally agree with you, i felt it was a very lopsided tbh. like the 3 semis werent evenly spread out. oh lol yea, technically i havent skipped anything, but there absolutely 0 chance i would have made it thought the shite in MESC. im planning to do a vid with just the top 4-5 faves again this year
Pre heat 3 my top 4 were Maria Celin, Stig Van Eijk, Skrellex and Akuvi. My favourites from the live show were Akuvi and Skrellex. I'm very sad for Akuvi cos she performed it so well and Skrellex gave so much I expected a qualification (especially that flip and then continued singing perfectly). Maria I thought was a little lackluster, it took her too long to really get into it. Atle and Tiril struggled a little with vocals
I disagree tom I think mgp has been elite this year and this semi proves it and freya slots into my number 3 this year I have downloaded probably about 15/21 this year I would be disappointed if "honestly " won eventhough I do enjoy it I just think there are better songs
I will say, aside from Elsie song, most of the songs I was intrigued by happened to be in semi 3. I will say, although I was slightly disappointed with some of them the first time I listened to the songs for the full 3 minutes, I still think realistically, aside from Elsie (which I'd be down for winning mgp but realistically dont see it happening), I would want it to come from this semi. Triumph: I really like this song, I think the chorus in particular is quite strong and I imagine it'll be even better live with choreo. Break it: Unpopular opinion to some, I might prefer this to Honestly. It will ultimately depend on staging because thats what made honestly go down in my ranks but I do like this song. Freya: That final chorus has a really epic battle feeling. Reminds me of Radioactive by Imagine dragons or Centuries by fallout boy. I think the first two choruses feel to abrupt with the with the ba da ba ba ba da ba part coming in too quick. This could have brilliant staging. Atle: I don't find the song too remarkable but I dont mind it. Eline: Its fine, the song is decent but I need the live performance to convince me. Stig: Listenable but I wouldn't have it as a qualifier Skrellex: Not my cuppa.
„Break It“ by Tiril is constantly on repeat since its release. I hope so much that she does not only qualify but becomes a surprising winner 😍
😭
@@ESCTom after seeing the live performance, it was no-brainer that she is out ;(
1. Freya
2. Break it
3. Masterpiece 🥳
Stig André van Eijk: Singing about war and how far from the peace the world is.
Tom: "Harmless, a little bit too harmless."
😂

yea im so glad this was the best semi, cos i was worried MGP would have given me no songs this year. im already listening to freya triump and break it
This semi final is good and this year is actually really good.
Coming back watching this now is like the meme of "top 10 pictures taken seconds before disaster"
Freya just shocked me when I first listened to it. It’s defo the best MGP had to offer this year. I don’t know if it’s just me but I think Maria could get top 10 or even potentially top 5, do you agree because I seriously think I’m the only one that thinks this.

She is quite popular so you're not the only one thinking that :)
Fortunately it did NOT go through to the final next Saturday - live singing is not her forte - not even autotune could save her, it was awful
@@meretegreaker9926 It was not awful. Not more than Skrellex.

They won't do a final four and final two this year. It will be all vs all, voting once, then a board showing 1-9 with both televotes and jury votes :)
ah ok interesting, MGP does seem to be the national final with the most varying format. it seems to change almost every year
