    As much as I love the fact you got Alexa to respond to alternate commands, you must get all the arcades off of Alexa'a power management. Having them in the on position, and taking raw power from a remotely controlled power switch will eventually damage all of the cabinets' power inputs. They need to be powered on, and off at the switches for proper startups, and shutdowns, otherwise, it's like having a PC take a raw power on/off cycle during a power outage, and return. Other than that, I think you've done an amazing job on your collection. Now, all you need is an old payphone, and jukebox to really complete the illusion of an 80s arcade/bar. Thanks for the tour. :)

      @HippoBytes  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Thanks! And that’s good feedback. Makes sense. I noticed all the new machines don’t have a static on and off switch now, rather a spring slide to power on. The lights will still be cool though 😅

    • @ThomasGrillo
      @ThomasGrillo Před 11 měsíci +2

      @@HippoBytes Indeed. I forgot to mention how much more important it is to leave the newer cabs off remote power. They actually started making them go through "graceful" power-up/down cycles. They're even more like regular computers, than the older models. Definitely can leave the effects lighting on the remote power system, for sure. :)

      @@HippoBytes I have been an amateur astronomer for over 50 years now (I was 9 when I got my first telescope, so I'm not THAT old!). I did the astrophotography thing with both film and CCDs. Now I mostly do what I guess they call they call "video astronomy". I love getting to 19th magnitude stars and 16th magnitude galaxies with 4 20 second exposures stacked together. The images might not be super pretty, but I have always been a chaser of faint fuzzies, and it's mind blowing to me that I can now punch so deeply with a C11 from my driveway.

    • @HippoBytes
      @HippoBytes  Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@theoldar that’s super impressive - so hard to get those faint fuzzies if you can even find them at that magnitude! I’ve not done much deep space, most Milky Way shots in the desert- but my bud Stephen Hummel at the McDonald Observatory in west Texas posts some amazing images he gets to take. I bow to you.

    I absolutely love your arcade it gives off a nice vibe. If you don't mind me asking, I'm looking to build something like this, what's the dimensions of the little arcade/retro system section, I really like the long thin 'room' you've got there and I think it's got a better charm than most square rooms I see people do home arcades with.

    • @HippoBytes
      @HippoBytes  Před 11 měsíci

      I had a square room (you can see an older video) and I love the open feel of this much more for sure! Respond to this so I have a reminder to measure tomorrow 😅 the two rugs in there are 12x6.

    • @HippoBytes
      @HippoBytes  Před 11 měsíci

      I’ll stick to the 1ups. I always get them on sale/clearance and the original are too expensive and take up a lot more space. However, if 1up doesn’t come out with a Spy Hunter soon I may have to reconsider.
