I think the Colonel's death pose and consistency was the first time I began to take the Sutekh rumour more seriously. Not least because it seems like an obvious hark back to the desiccated corpse of Marcus Scarman in the earlier serial. But then they've been dropping hints for some time.

"I bring Sutekh's Gift of Death" Lovely to hear Gabriel Wolff voicing Sutekh as he did in Pyramids Of Mars. For me that was the icing on the cake. This episode had such a good build up. My husband had heard rumours, but I hadn't, so the reveal was a surprise to me. No, I didn't pick up on her name shortened to Su and working for a Technology firm either, spelt Sutech! LOL! Lovely to see Mel and Unit working along side the Doctor. I thought Gnuti was very good in this.Like you I had goosebumps and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up, when Genesis Lynea, who played Harriet Harbinger started talking in her possessed voice and then Susan turned into the husk, before the big reveal.Part two has a lot to live up to....hopefully it can do so. In “Pyramids of Mars,” Sutekh was not a god. He was a member of an alien race that the Egyptians based their deities on. My theory is that Sutekh’s return is another consequence of Fourteen using the salt in “Wild Blue Yonder.” Because of that myths are becoming real. Instead of a mortal alien Sutekh has become an actual god.

I'm so smug that I worked this out. Ever since _The Devil's Chord_ I've been suspicious. They lifted that whole 'alternative present day where the world is destroyed' bit straight from _Pyramids of Mars._ That seemed a bit too deliberate to be inconsequential.
Then Maestro says something about 'The oldest one' being there when baby Ruby was abandoned. Then they released the thumbnail for the series which is The Doctor and Ruby floating in what looks very much like the time tunnel that the Doctor left Sutekh in, condemned to wait for eternity. It would then make sense that he's "The one who waits". Then we find out about Susan Triad Technology …Sue's tech empire… That's exactly the kind of cheesy pun that RTD would go for.
    Further predictions:
    1. The shift in the timeline in Wild Blue Yonder ('Mavity') - or possibly the salt thing - was when Sutekh seized the opportunity to escape the time tunnel.
    2. Mrs. Flood isn't as evil as she appears.

  • @Medcanuk

I have a prediction, which if it's true, kinda is a spoiler I guess? Technically? Anyway here we go I'll make it short, I think Mrs Flood is Susan , The doctor's actual granddaughter, and Mrs Flood (Susan) is Ruby's mother, so Ruby is the doctor grand granddaughter. Boom.

  • @alexfletcher5192
    @alexfletcher5192 Před měsícem +1

Gabriel Woolf could not have foreseen that a couple of weeks' work he did back in 1975 would follow him around for half a century, but that's where we are. In truth, he's not much in 'Pyramids of Mars' at all and the character doesn't get to do a great deal. But that's also the secret of its success. Sutekh in that story is like a gangland boss banged up, but still controlling his crime empire from the inside. With his power restricted, the imagination is allowed to run wild with speculation about what he'd be capable of when freed. But can this God of Gods let loose ever live up to expectation? I guess we have to wait and see.

Definitely the best episode of the series so far, as well as the most traditional in feel, and the finale will have to go some to live up to it. The tension built up wonderfully well, the time window stuff was great, the Doctor’s chat with Kate about Susan was moving, and the cliffhanger was the best in a very long time. Mel came across really well here, and feels like a much more rounded character than she did back in the 80s. As for Sutekh, he was certainly one of the most chilling villains of the classic era, so hopefully RTD will fully succeed in honouring that legacy in the next episode. Are you going to watch the Pyramids of Mars Tales of the TARDIS tomorrow night?
Just on your point about some of the classic Doctors not being able to replicate Ncuti’s performance at the end of Dot and Bubble, I dare say you are right, though I think some of the other Doctors would have reacted in a very different manner anyway.

So Pyramid of Mars, Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker), and Sarah Jane Smith are pulled off course to the location of unit but in 1911 when the priory that originally stood on the site and Sutekh's face briefly appears inside the Tardis. Sutekh is last of the Osirans, a godlike alien race. Thousands of years ago Sutekh destroyed their home planet and the remaining 740 Osirans led by Horus finally cornered Sutekh on earth in Egypt. All of egyptian civilization is based on the Osirans. They imprisoned him in a pyramid under an energy field beamed from a pyramid on mars from a device called the Eye of Horus. So imprisoned Sutekh acts through the animated corpse of Marcus Scarman, an egyptologist who found Sutekh's prison and several Osiran service robots who are wrapped like mummies. With the aid of Marcus's brother Laurence, who has built a prototype radio telescope they find an emergency message from the Eye triggered by Marcus opening the tomb. Laurence ends up killed by Marcus trying to break Sutekh's hold on him. The robots construct an Osiran missile but they manage to place an explosive but Sutekh prevents its detonation by telekinetically holding the chemicals from exploding. The Doctor uses a Time Space tunnel disguised as a sarcophagus to travel to Sutekh and break his concentration. He then forced the Doctor to take Scarman and a Robot to the Pyramid on Mars. The Doctor after faking his death to get Sutekh to release his mind, follows them through the puzzles and traps to reach the Eye. While his Robot fights Robot guards of Horus Scarman channels Sutekh's power to destroy the Eye, then collapses into a a charred corpse. The Doctor and Sarah rush back to the Tardis and travel in space but not time beating the radio delay from Mars that releases Sutekh. Sutekh tries to take the time space tunnel to England but the Doctor uses the Time shifter from the Tardis to move the threshhold of the tunnel continually into the future so Sutekh could never reach it. Sutekh disappears and the Doctor believes he died after 7000 years. The time space tunnel overheats and sets the priory on fire. In reality (ie secondary comics, Big Finnish audio dramas) Sutekh 'stepped sideways' into the void

And he does not duck when the explosion happens in the Time Window. However, I think it is a misdirect and that he is not cut from the same cloth as Ibrahim Namin.

Would recommend the new Tales of the Tardis episode which comes out on Thursday as it will have a slightly cut down version of Pyramids of Mars but with new music and updated VFX + new scenes with The Doctor and Ruby in the memory tardis

Me too. For me I ruled out her being Susan imo after that scene with her and Cherry Sunday. But idk, if she’s someone we already know it has to be The Rani.

@@sensiblepizza80She says she’s hiding away. I swear I saw a tooth glimmer when she smiled. Also the interaction with Cherry. The fact her door is tardis blue, and is #4. Four letters in Rani. Rani Rain Flood. SOOO many things pointing towards it.

Also there’s a temporal thing going on with her. The clock says 15: 08 when it announces thunderstorms moving in, but after they say it’ll be 15: 00 soon. 🤷🏼 she also said her mom died when she wasn’t looking.

The Rani was a scientist Mrs. Flood does not strike me as a scientist so I don't think she is The Rani.

I agree it's a much better episode out of this season though I disagree on "The Devil's Chord" I thought that was good too apart from the silly musicals St the end.
Love the Sutekh reveal as "Pyramids of Mars" is one of my favourite stories of all time as well as the villain himself.
Just on the bit where you say the Classic Doctors not getting enough emotions one of the things that interest me about the Doctor is how unemotional , detached and how alien he he is now don't get me wrong I like Ncuti Gatwa alot as an actor but I am really struggling with his Doctor at the moment and one of the reasons for that is he has too much emotion and he cries every episode which is starting to irritate me abit I do not like when the writers humanise the Doctor because it takes away the aspect, the alieness and the magic of the character.
I also don't like that the TARDIS just lands and not materlise.
Also I thought U.N.I.T. was meant to be a top secret organisation, why do they have a tall building in the city of London where everyone can see it?
I also don't get the appeal of Mel I always found her an annoying character although she is written better here I just can't get over she was a screamer and had zero character development during her time as a companion I just don't think she competes with great companions such as Leela, Jo Grant, Sarah Jane Smith or Amy Pond i just think it's an odd choice that RTD would choose that particular companion to return.
Aside from those issues overall it was otherwise a better episode.
