As self-employed myself you have to have thick skin you open yourself up to a whole different kind of stress. It has pluses and minuses. But most people are not able to deal with that stress on top of the business and work. One day after you retire you will think back to days like this and realize that it didn't really matter. I used to work in a huge manufacturing facility with constant quality checks that had to be met. Now that I have retired I drive buy and watch as they tear most of it down to build apartments. All the stress we went through at that place for nothing. By the way I just bought a green CL500 and I am liking the simplicity of this type of bike.
Watching your commutes makes me happy I live way out in the country. The Houston area is one of my least favorite places to drive. Right up there with Jackson FL and Boston MA.

Speaking of motorist assist, I would like to do more of them, but there's a chance of it being a theft scheme. Here are Asia, some people are "too" polite and are willing to help out wherever possible. Usually the scenario is that they ran out of fuel and need to "borrow" your bike to get to the fuel pump. The next you know the other guy managed to get that "broken-down" bike spring into life and ran away. I do still help if I deemed it safe and the person are genuine, my criterias are : - In a city / major road (must be busy) - Solo rider - The person wears a uniform/work attire - Must express shock (usually an anxious person nowadays constantly pulls out their phone when they are feeling distress) And one more thing. If they're just ran out of fuel or the bike can still be moved. I will offer them what we called "STEP", basically pushing the other bike with your feet, usually using their footpeg or exhaust to the nearst fuel pump or workshop. If they refuse to be pushed, I will just immediately bolt off. It may sound rude, yes. But all riders here knows what "Step" is, and if they refuse it, that raises a lot of alarm.

I just got older and wanted a simpler life. Having lived in Texas before I chuckled at you going 80 and barely keeping up with Houston traffic 😂 Sounds like your client that let you go might be on the road to ruin. When the buddy guy they brought on flakes and they call you back be sure to double their prior rate.
The Kawasaki standards are really nice looking and feel good ergonomically. The Z650RS and the Z900RS totally have my attention. Still have 2 years of warranty on my PCX and 4 on my XR150L.
I'd still send a bill for the meeting. If they're dumb enough to say they needed to meet with you regarding computer issues that's consulting. Hang a price tag on that nepotism.
back in 2001 i took time off from truck driving to take care of my dad until he passed away. and took a job to help a friend out at a mechanic shop. how they was keeping the doors open i will never know. but with in 3 months the shop was breaking even and within 6 months we was so busy we was having to turn people away. about 2 years later we had to add 3 more stalls onto the shop and hire help. then the owners son decided he was going to take over the shop. fired the 2 best mechanics Robert and i and 3 months later the shop shut down. oh and he tried for years to hire either one of us back and we just laughed at him. until he just gave up and sold the place now its a small shopping mall or something. he may regret firing you and if he tries to get you back it should cost him big time.
You know I had that happen to me once. Drove over 45 miles one way for them to dismiss me. They could have just called. It would jave been just fine. I found something so much better after that too. First and only time i was ever fired. Lol Sorry to hear this but you will find someone better, also.
I'm with you regarding the eliminator 450. I haven't seen one at a dealer here yet but it is on the Kawasaki Australia website so it shouldn't be far away. They have done a good job on keeping the weight down and if the 450cc engine is anything like the Ninja 400 twin it will be a gem. Very tempting..
Been self employed since the mid 90's. I've fired clients FAR more than they've fired me. It's part of my job to spot problem people...before they become clients. I have turned away more people than I've taken on as clients. (I'm a personal finance expert/advisor....but not a salesman/broker) Sometimes it's a surprise, but I don't loose sleep over it. Only a few clients have ever become friends outside the professional relationship. I retired in 2019 (in my late 50's) and kept just a handful of clients that appreciate my work. (retired with 5, two have died...down to 3)
Would be interesting if you get the Kawasaki Eliminator. I was sitting on it 2 days ago in a showroom and liked it a lot. The only thing is the exost system is really ugli. The way it comes out of the engine block. I don't know who designed it, but it's ugly as he'll. Also thinking about trading in my Rebel 1100cc DCT fit the new Honda 500cc amble. Got 14,500 miles on it and would like to get something lighter.
Yeah, the exhaust is that way so the engineers could get the 'tuned length " they were after, probably to boost mid range torque. If they ran the pipes straight down they would have lost several inches out of the system.
Thanks for the feedback. That black plastic lever is the Go Cruise throttle lock: amzn.to/45hR9iO . It's a simple friction lock that holds the throttle position so you can remove your hand from the throttle... a poor man's cruise control. 😉👍 --QM

The CB500X is better for my overall riding needs. The added wind protection from the MadStad windscreen and front cowls help reduce rider fatigue on longer road trips, and the upright seating position is more neutral for back and shoulder comfort. The 500X also has a slightly larger fuel tank (4.5 gal vs 4.1 gal), so it can go a bit farther between fuel stops. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
Strangely enough I was looking at the New Transalp in the Honda dealership last weekend here in the U.K . I didn't sit on it but had a good look round it . I am 5ft 10" (Ish) with a 30 inch inside leg (O.K Orangutan Jokes aside Guys 🐒 ) & I sat on the Africa Twin a couple of years ago & it was just too high ... Sat on one in the dealership Last weekend & It was fine, I was not flat footed but raised heels & felt quite comfortable (Strangely enough I used to Ride an XR650R - Go figure!) Apparently I was sat on the "Adventure" Spec one 2 years ago & I now sat on the "Standard" model ... So go give it a try when it comes in Aaron .... you might be surprised as it looked smaller than the twin.
That's a common theme across most Honda motorcycles compared to Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha models in the same displacement classes. Hondas usually run 10-20% more efficiently than their counterparts from other manufacturers. I think that's related to the fueling and emissions tuning. Kawi and Yamaha are usually more performance-oriented, so they consume more fuel. 🤷♂️ --QM

I'm down to 16 motorcycles and scooters now from a total of 26 about a year ago. Most of the bikes in the stable were obtained cheaply (either used or salvage projects), but a few have been new purchases. I primarily commute on 2 wheels, so that's where I spend my money instead of on more expensive cars or trucks. 😉👍 --QM

Got the xr150l in June after getting the trail and the super cub last year. Great ride but 60 is the best I can get out of it.

Kawasaki Z900 and W800 - UJM. The DCT in my CTX700 has been fine. Engine has decent power, too.
