If something is properly glued and clamped, it is stronger than the wood itself. Saying that though, i think I'd be shitting it a bit! 😂

Morgan, I've been watching several of your turning videos and I must say that I am very impressed with the weird stuff you get away with turning. After watching this video where you are gluing the logs together I would like to make a suggestion.... I actually cringed a bit when I say you start to turn these logs....... The end grain in wood is very difficult to glue with wood glue because it tends to soak in too deep, thereby leaving minimal glue for the adhesion of the 2 pieces.
So a good way to overcome this issue is to FIRST apply a thinned down coat of glue (same stuff), but reduce the glue by 50% with water, then apply a good coating, let it absorb and dry. Then the next day or even a few hours later, give it a very light sanding with 320 paper, then go ahead and glue as you normally would. By allowing the 'sealer coat of glue' to absorb into the end grain the wood is now sealed so that additional layers of glue will actually do what they're designed to do and the glue wont absorb anymore. Your resulting glue joint will be full strength now, as strong as if you were gluing side grain. This is information that I actually got from a glue manufacturers web page some time back, don't remember which one though. This is actually a common practice by people that are doing a lot of gluing for miter joints....... at least the guys that know the trick.

I love the final result -- it's a wonderful shape -- aesthetically pleasing! BUT, being the perfectionist that I am I couldn't help but notice that a couple of the seams between the glued together pieces had noticeable cracks/gaps. I kept hoping that you were going to fill those small seams with a combination glue and sawdust mixture to make them less noticeable.
Anyway, never mind me -- someone, likely many someones, would love to have this piece on their shelf! Yeah --- so would I!

I have to say that I'm not particularly excited by the finished product, but the challenge of making it definitely hits me and I've added it to my To Do list. I'm not sure what I'll do with it when finished, but I have to turn it!
