- We've made it to Hilo, Hawaii. Today, we rent a car and tour around Hawaii, the Big Island, with some friends. Our Hilo Hawaii tour takes us to some of the beautiful sites such as the volcano, waterfalls, and the best shave ice on this island paradise. I've never been to Hawaii, but would love to go one day, so this was a fantastic overview! But why was I sitting here listening about the fireplace and thinking "They must really love soccer!" I had to google it because I knew that couldn't possibly be right. Pele the god of fire makes a LOT more sense! I love that you got an extra special experience at the Mauna Loa factory. How cool! You're right that you never know what's going to happen to enhance your experience! That waterfalls and the banyan trees! OMG! Incredible! I've never seen shave ice like that. In Baltimore we call them "snowballs" and we put marshmallow cream on top, but what you showed is NOTHING like what we do here. Yours was so much more epic! Hope you're having a blast in Malaysia! What a huge difference from Hawaii. Our world really is incredible!

I lived on the big island of Hawaii for 15 years and this just took me back… 😢❤ I miss it so much!
How fortunate for you to get to live there. I hope you can go back for a visit.
Wife and I were just in Hawaii for the first time 2 months ago with some friends. 10 days on the Big island wasn't enough. Stayed just south of Hilo. Spent 2 of the days at Volcano National Park, a day visiting the waterfalls and even zip lined over one north of Akaka, and saw whales spouting and smacking their tales on the water just off the shore.

We hiked down in the crater back in September 2023...bout a week before we got there there was lava flow...I was so sad that we missed that.

Only Hawaiian island i haven't been too! Looks lovely........Maui always my fave and so upset about Lahaina.Oahu becoming las Vegas and had a bad experience on Kuai and Molokai was a day trip.LOL the worst food ive ever had was at a Luau!I swam in the 7 Falls on Maui!Love the shave ice with ice cream and beans!I think i have your necklace too!

We love watching your travels! Thank you for sharing these! My 5 kids also watch them with me. They would like to ask a question: do you know how many kids are doing the ultimate world cruise? And what do the kids like to do for fun on the ship?
There are 22 or 26 kids ages 2 to 16 doing the full world cruise. Royal Caribbean has adventure ocean for all of the kids. On hot days, they also open up their little wading pool with a small waterslide. I see a lot of children doing homeschooling in the mornings. Other children join on throughout the various mini legs and I see them all playing together. They also have ping-pong tables, dance parties, and other activities for the children. For Easter, they had an Easter egg hunt and at Christmas Santa Claus came and gave them all a small gift.
The other passengers who have become good friends with you really lucked out in finding a great couple with whom to discover/explore various areas of the world. It seems as if the two of you are kind and thoughtful people who are more than willing to share your travel expertise/experiences with likeminded fellow travelers. Congratulations on forging new friendships and on
reveling in all the world offers to those with open and inquisitive minds.
Thank you so much. The deep friendships we have formed have been a bonus that was unexpected.
My takeaway is yes you brought the right amount of clothes and a good excuse to purchase useful memories

It took us five days to get to Hawaii.
What you didn't stop at Ken's House of Pancakes! My in-laws lived on the Big Island for 50 years. Sadly they are no longer with us. They lived just a few miles downhill from Hawai'i Volcanoes NP. Have hiked most all of the trails around and down into the caldera. Miss those days and the island. Need to plan another trip back soon. Thanks so much for sharing.

Nancy here, I try to go to bed by 10 and then get up around six, no alarm. Mike stays up a bit later and sleep in a tad bit later unless we have an excursion scheduled.
