PERFECTLY articulated. Kobe was the "standard basketball gifts" mixed with absolute OBSESSION to be the absolute best. No compromise.
Which is a gift. Obsession is also a given gift. It's not only physical. You and me can try, but we will be fed up at some point. You can't coach that.

Kobe's over rated. Give me a healthy TMac and he'll never play second fiddle to NOBODY

Ppl need to understand also that pretty much ever nba championship ever they had at least 3 guys that where in the top 75 of the league in that season on their team. Kobe didn’t have that after shaq left he would bust his ass off every season with shit players and wasn’t until he got Paul on his team and meta on his team that he was able to make it and win those 2 chips

I will ALWAYS respect the Hibachis insight. Especially watching him light up my Lakers for 60
It was his drive to be great... he said when he 1st got into the league that he wanted to be the greatest... he never stopped pushing until he met that goal... all those xtra sets in the weight room, all those extra shots on the court... so many stories of him 1st in last out... its that mamba mentality...
The best take I've heard from Gil.
By the end of Kobe’s career he was really playing basketball against himself. There was the game on the court and then there was the game kobe was playing in his head. He had already won everything there was to win so he just challenged himself in games and you could tell if you know basketball.
Thanks now I’m going to go back and watch the season before he retired just because of you thanks K824

Kobe was an elite all around athlete way in his prime, way above the average nba gaurd, but that was because he of his work ethic, keeping himself in the best shape he was capable of year round while he played
He worked his talent into a gift
As a Non-kobe fan. That was the best explanation, not only for a player, but for a reasoning process that I've ever heard.

Kobe was quick asf #8 younger years
No he mastered footwork so he could use the leverage he created to go by ppl. He didn’t have John Wall speed and quickness.
Was he quick? Yes, most shooting guards are. Was he the quickest? Not even close. Hence, "man against gods"
I never thought I’d see the day where Kobe’s game and overall performance would be looked upon as a minor contribution to the game
He was a KILLER!!!! That’s it he could go out there and be ready to die out there every game and he worked until his last game of his career.

That’s a good point but I guess that’s why he’s 6’6. Having an NBA dad also surely helps you with skill development and self belief.
How many kids have been born from current or former NBA players? Thousands. Most players in the league never had parents in the NBA. Joe Bryant did not make Kobe great. Kobe made Kobe great.

Shout out to Gil for the kind words. At 6’6, 210 pounds, I suppose that’s not a physical specimen by any standard, but it aint bad. Second-generation pro, that’s not too bad either. Naturally athletic, did ya’ll forget #8 with the afro? The hops, finishing ability, and dunk package were fire. Then add the intangibles: work ethic, IQ, footwork, soft touch, killer mentality, unlimited offesive repetoire combined with elite defence, and the will to win.

I think it’s an overstatement to say that Kobe was “standard” physically or Talent wise. He has a 7ft wingspan for a guard and he was an apex athlete. You don’t dunk on guys like he did throughout his career (see the dunks on Dwight, Yao, Nash, Wallace & the whole Hornets front court for proof). When you couple that with his Drive (and other things that would make my reply longer than I’m interested in giving) that’s what made him so ridiculously special and amongst the best ever.
