  • Louis Vuitton vachetta cleaning fail on vintage Noe GM
    Learn about the damage I did to my vintage Louis Vuitton Noe GM from my first attempt at cleaning vachetta. I'm so sad about it but at least it wasn't a brand new bag that I'd dropped thousands on. Learning experience!!! Don't make the same mistake I did.

    Thank you for your thoughtful post. It seemed quite foreign to me to condition first but I became willing to adapt to this idea after watching them. Now you are truly reinforcing that process.

    The eraser is basically an abrasive - it takes off the top layer of the leather which removes the dirt, but leaves it vulnerable. Think it like a loofah or apricot scrub for leather. I used it and it actually removed the beautiful patina on my bag, much to my dismay. For this reason, I no longer use it on my vachetta. But agreed, if you have to use it on a very dirty bag, condition the heck out of it before and after. A lot of people don't realize that it can do more harm than good, so thanks for sharing.

    Yeah I noticed after I used saddle soap to clean my vintage noe then Cadillac conditioner. After the first cleaning I saw a few small cracks that weren't there before then I just used the Cadillac leather conditioner only and left the saddle soap alone. My bag looks good now. Great video thank you 😁

    Oh no!!! So sorry that happened. But it's still a gorgeous bag! My vintage Speedy 25, which I did a video on, is in absolutely desperate need of a cleaning. I've watched a ton of videos, but yours is the first that suggests conditioning BEFORE cleaning.

If i have a cobbler friends replace the zip can i have LV put a pull on it? i was told that LV just puts a standard zip in nothing LV marked just YYK etc hope that makes sense. Any thoughts on this and cost ideas Thanks Bee

    The only leather conditioner I use is Obenauf’s. It’s all natural beeswax with natural oils suspended in it. A lot of conditioners and lotions will have chemicals like silicones and parabens that create an impermeable layer, and they seem, to be helpful, but the leather can actually end up drying out under that layer bc it’s not water soluble. Water naturally rolls off of beeswax, and beeswax naturally will dissipate, not buildup like silicones.

    • @AutumnBeckman
      @AutumnBeckman  Před 7 lety +1

      I'm glad you found this helpful. From what I understand (I've watched more videos since I cleaned/damaged this bag) you just need to condition the bag before using the Magic Eraser. I missed that step. The Cadillac Leather Lotion is supposed to be a cleaner, too, so maybe try that first and if it doesn't get the bag clean enough then just make sure it's conditioned well then try the Magic Eraser...then condition again. That's what I would try if I was cleaning another bag. Best of luck to you!

The eraser is for drastic conditions and it REALLY needs to b used with a very light hand. Needless to say I only use wipes and conditioner

    @EddaElid Před 7 lety +9

    LV will replace all of the vachetta. Unfortunately it will be costly. And you have to make sure that you insist that the stitching is to look as good as the original or better. When they give you the repair slip to sign write your request on that slip. That way if they mess up you will not be obligated to pay for a lousy job. My last two repair jobs left me extremely unhappy with my Chicago LV flagship store on Michigan avenue. The most recent incident was a glazing issue that needed to be redone but apparently the vachetta was unstitched to do so and then restitched together again. The stitching was so crooked and all over the place I couldn't help but stare at it in disbelief. Hopefully your store has a better repair center assigned to them. Good luck!

    Polymer erasers are much more gentle and they still clean. just the white eraser you may pick up from an office/school supply store. I don't use them office because they canl damage the raw leather. Once the leather patina develops a gentle rub picks up dirt. Alcohol free wipes help too. Both will clean bag and not damage leather that has already had some patina or shine to it.

    lf you com'è have anything to loose try to put cocconut in the vachetta zone, before try to wash it with water to quit rest of the rubber (it dryes the leather) you need to moisturize your leather, more now. good Luck!!!

      This one was old and dirty so it needed a cleaning in my opinion. I haven't touched the vachetta on my new (almost a year old) Turenne, though. I love your videos!

      It doesn't bother me. Luckily, I got that bag from eBay and didn't pay much. It's still beautiful and I don't think the cracking is noticeable to anyone unless they're inspecting it closely. I'll probably carry it until it falls apart. :)

    I don’t think leather should be cleaned with water....😞 I have saddles, and many LV bags, you have to use special leather cleaners and then condition the leather r, so it doesn’t dry out.... sorry your leather cracked.... 😱😖

    You can't use any of that on your vacheta. You really aren't supposed to do anything to it dear. If you must use Apple leather conditioner only. Best of luck

      It's so difficult to know. It seems like everyone says something different. I'm curious...why Apple and not Cadillac?

    • @lvfan8141
      @lvfan8141 Před 7 lety +8

      Autumn Beckman because Apple conditioner is to clean vacheta leathers which are not treated leathers and Cadillac is to treat car interiors and treated leather.

      Typically I delete comments about my appearance but I don't think you mean harm so I'll reply instead. I look fabulous without makeup, too. Every woman does. I believe that people don't need makeup and that it's just a ploy for cosmetic companies to make money. We're all beautiful just as we are...as are you. Thank you for the compliment on my video.

    Oh no!! I clean these bags for people all the time. The magic eraser is only supposed to be used very sparingly. I actually put the lotion on the sponge instead of water to make sure I'm cleaning and conditioning at the same time. There are also other professional cleaners I use. Please contact me if you want me to do your bag. It's not expensive. It starts around $50!
