What do you think of CHP’s new siren?
Honestly, I don't care much. I don't live in the US, so it's not something I really need to worry about it. However I like the Whelen CenCom Core tones. They sound nice on the CHP units. Same with their new patterns. It's a sick upgrade.
Hell nah it’s horrible
It’s okay but their custom made one is better.
It sounds like a standard Whelen siren, very common on the east coast where I am. So to me it’s pretty bland and boring.
Wonder why they changed it
As a retired police officer I urge people to keep in mind that when emergency vehicles pass you with lights and sirens, don't be in a hurry to pull back into traffic, there may be more coming. The video shows just that happening with a couple of police cars having to avoid colliding with vehicles that have driven back into their paths.
That is such a good point people don't think of. Thank you for bringing it to our attention, and thank you for being the Police. Always appreciative for all of you!
good point. thanks
As the son of a retired Sheriff's deputy, I always make sure to check if there are more vehicles coming before I go back
Same with train crossings, people assume there was just one on a double track, and they pull out in front of anouther one.
I love how they just adopted the generic Whelen siren like everywhere else - even across the pond, London has done the same
Really?! I hope you are kidding.
@@JDzAlive Nope not kidding.
Yeah that's the same as UK
yeah sounds like what we have here in Oz..
My father was responsible for UK ambulances changing to this in the late 70’s in Essex and London. I remember the first time I heard them it was like being in an episode of Starsky and Hutch.
Dang! End of an era. Reminds me of municipalities replacing electromechanical public warning sirens with the new electronic sirens. Just not the same.
Yeah I'm going to miss the old CHP siren.
This video upsets me way more than it should. Those unique sirens and minimalist flash patterns were fantastic. Hate to see them go!
@@code3ab399 What's different?
@@randallsmerna384 Its a defferent siren, its whelen siren they didint use before
i have the electronic siren on my semi truck--it makes about 10 different sounds plus the loud speaker--just a fun toy
That siren been the norm around here for many yrs. Probably 20 to 30 yrs now
I love the old CHP siren
Sounds like the sirens used by London PD
@@briansturm6618 yes according to other comments it’s a generic whelen a lot of agencies use it and London does to
not when its behind you though ..
For years, CHP sirens have tended to run in a higher pitch than standard, to be better heard over road noise
still sounds like the same siren i heard 20 years ago.
I like the old CHP siren better!!
Same
The old one sounded like garbage
@@JAKFOXGaming not really

Yep that's a siren for sure...no question about it
You summed it up. Nothing exciting. Just plain ol' stock stuff.
We always say a prayer for the officer that he'll be safe. EVERY time there's a police siren, we say that..
We are thankful there are those who rush, run to danger, to protect us. Thank you so much
No need for prayer to Christian god, as he's both omniscient and omnibenevolent! Coupled those with his omnipotence and all will be well in the universe 😮😅😂
I liked the classic siren but I think that upgrading to whelen systems is better for their cruisers
Brilliant video! Thos SCCS units were awesome!!! I'm used to hear the Whelen Epsilon and it is an awesome siren, kinda weird hearing it on CHP but, I think we're going to get used to it!
CHP used the dual mode wail/yelp electronic siren in 1964 east of San Diego on I-8. New???
I'm definitely missing something here. We're they using the rumbler in person? Didn't come through CZcams
Here in florida we have something that sounds similar but theres this reverb and you can genuinely feel the siren
Been using those for years in Texas. Y'all need to catch up.
Love the CHP Chargers. As a retired East Coast Officer, all we used were Whelen and I am used to the sound. Like it on the CHP car.
I really enjoy videos like this thank you
the only problem I see here is none of those units are CHP. more like santa cruz county SD. The clue was the giant lettering on the side that said "SHERIFF".
Great catches!
Those Sheriff's Office cars are running Code 3 Vcons if im not mistaken; we had the same system on our recently replaced mainline engine at my FD. One of my favorite sirens to date
I think it's a Federal PA300
Edit: Looked the Code 3 up and they both sound really really similar is it's hard to tell
You're correct. The PA300 horn is different to that in 0:48
I love the new CHP siren's, will miss the oldies. But, these are really nice!
They’ve switched to the ones we use in Australia
what's the siren called?
Electronic Sirens are OK, but give me the Growl of the old Mechanical Air Sirens. The old mechanical sirens reverb off buildings, and can be heard in fog and other weather. The Electronic sirens can be under heard.
What was there old one ?
I don’t think people realize which one is the CHP and the siren not on.
Wow, that's the same siren I had when I first became a LEO in the late 70s. The modes are, Wail, Yelp, and Hi-Low (we called it the British).
I myself always thought the 'hi-lo' sounded more French, but opinions vary... be well!
California State Law bans the Hi-Lo tone from emergency vehicles
Notice volume much louder on CHP unit due to properly exterior mounted speaker, as opposed to the other units with the straight from factory installed speakers jammed up behind the enclosed bumper covers.I say everybody go back to the old school Unitrol 80k best siren ever lol
I really dig the colors of those Sheriffs' Ford Explorers.
Sounds the same as pretty much everywhere else. Even many European countries have adopted this same tone.
So what was the outcome?
Sounds just like our sirens in the UK. If I was not seeing the picture I could believe it was filmed in any British city.
That is the same siren I have been hearing since the 90's on CHP cars. I don't know what I'm missing here? Are you in a different state? It's definitely not the same siren tone used by European police.
What did the old one sound like?
Same sirens as Australian ambulance and police. So I like it
Thats a ambulance siren, which I'm not a big fan.
@@theshield1613 many police depts use that siren. its the whelen Sapphire/epsilon
@The Shield Law Enforcement and Fire Services Also use these. Including the Government, Federal Signal, Whelen, Code 3, Soundoff, etc don’t make sirens for just ONE purpose and type of Emergency Service. The Sapphire is commonly used yes, on a Ambulance or medical transport/ transfer vehicle. But, not just an Ambulance.
@@jadendemarre83 cool story
@@altchannel6120 cool story
Nothing will sound better than the Touchmaster Delta or the Smart Siren for law enforcement vehicles!
No wonder i seen and heard a CHP charger the other day with this siren . i found it weird they weren’t using the original one . makes sense now .
Love the charger's Euro 1! More and more common here in the UK.
That is the typical British siren they have had for 50 years!
I'm a former CA CHP K9 handler and I'm gonna tell you what I miss the 1988 mustangs that used to patrol the I 5 area
Starting in January 2022 all of the railroad companies added a new series of pneumatic siren tones.
That third sheriff car needs to get its siren fixed. It’s super quiet compared to the first two. I love the new CHP siren, although I’ll miss the old one.
I figured in the de-balled gulag that is California I would here Gomer Pyle yelling "citizens arrest, citizens arrest" just as he did in an episode of Andy Griffith...That is the limit of policing allowed here.
This is just like when LAFD transitioned from the spectra to that generic Whelen siren
Yep, because it was a old siren and they didn’t make it anymore. Gotta find ways to make something fixed like putting in a new siren system.
Nice catches!
The first batch sound like the old Whelen on our rescue engine, the second batch sound like the Galls on our brush engine and the last batch sound like the old Code 3 on our retired pumper tanker
Thanks for your bravery!
Despite the fact that I have 25 years of driving trucks hauling wide load heavy equipment and tankers , therefore I have a habit of driving slowly all the time , I think police cars are pretty neat , even though speed is not my thing.
I think police cars are pretty neat and speed is my thing although the drivers of the police cars are still trying to break me of that. (Almost exclusively highway and not usually on cross country trips.)
That ' s not the CHP SUV Unit it's from the SCSD New and Revised Color Unit that looks like LASD SUVs
CHP still has the old siren, I can hear them across my neighborhood.
Those Green Sheriff units is looking awsome!
CHP went from having a cool original siren to a boring Whelen siren. This is worse than switching from the Vision light bar to the liberty 🤦♂️
this shit is for public safety so you can see and hear emergency vehicles better, none of it is “cool”
@@daquashesxp5321 sorry but Whelen when it’s comes to siren is trash!
@@BadDriversOfNorthCarolina What do you mean? the old CHP siren was also made by Whelen.
@@gabrielmartines3510 what kind of Whelen siren? Because I’m looking for the siren. Whelen siren tones today are mostly lame or stolen from Federal Signal.
@@BadDriversOfNorthCarolina It's literally called "Whelen CHP Siren", no other department other than CHP actually used it.
Cool catch!
Wow.....wail and Yelp, we’ve been using that fo 25+ years. What did they use before, a cowbell?
Nice catch thanks for sharing..............
FINALLY, CHP uses a good siren. Now all they need to do is get rid of that steady burn garbage.
What changed? Sounds the same. I was waiting for one of the cruisers to have a sign on it that said “I have the new siren” because I sure couldn’t tell the difference between the old and new.
Yes, same siren sound and pitch as when I started as a Municipal LEO in 1974...wail, yelp, hi-lo in both a Whelen and in a GE Power Call siren
Just wait until they discover howler sirens lol
Same exact sound we have here in Hawaii on our ambulances, police & fire trucks
Nothing new. Modern police vehicles have several different siren options, along with the electronic “air horn” you heard. They are changed by hitting the horn once the lights/siren are activated. The system over rides the normal horn until the siren/lights are turned off.
An 18 wheeler full of Avocados Stolened , CHIPS looking for Guacamole. lol .
I always thought California had all the latest stuff. I’m confused , these have been out for years. Is California that far behind the rest of the country?
I think the new CHP siren sounds good, it sounds like a modern version of an old school siren to me
Sound like any other siren over here on the east coast where things are a little more normal
I thought all cops had that siren lol
Sounds the same as what we have had here in Florida for decades.
Great looking vehicles!! Nice one!
Sounds the same as sirens used in Louisiana since the late 1960s.
No new siren beats the Unitrol.
I’m gonna miss the old CHP siren😭
what's new about it?
What the hell is new? Those are normal everyday sirens
Good stuff and Oh hell nah not the new CHP siren!!
When r the new chp fpius gonna be ready
I wonder what went down in Ben Lomond
What code 3 mean
What's different?
What is the name of this siren?
Code 3 z3
R.I.P old chip siren
Where's the new siren?
The light pattern is reversed too on the bumper lights
All I hear is, "Pull over, buddy!"
What new siren ?
Whelen, Federal, and Code 3 all have slightly different wail and yelp sounds.
CHP really hated that siren that they had
They'll regret that decision later
The kardashians we’re out of gas, and needed assistance
That's new? Sounds like every siren I've heard for decades!😮
its a new siren to the CHP fleet
if they speed it up anymore it's gonna sound like Pacman
Hmm I've noticed a new siren in my town in Texas that sounds like the old one
Thats very odd seeing that lol I am use to CHP's custom siren made by Whelen. They all have it here on the chargers and explorers still Im sure itll eventually fade. I'll miss sitting on my patio and trying to guess the Agency flying by on I-5 by the pitch and speed of the siren (CHP being a dead give away. Now itll sound just like the Sheriff's)
We use that in Australia, Thanks
Yes I love the old siren, and I might have a reason why, with their custom siren imagine how much it is to make but with a different siren it's cheap so basically it just to save money
my brother is a FHP officer he has a few different types of sirens he can choose from in the patrol car
Having spent two and a half years in West Germany, I'm still fond of the classic European hi/lo.
Florida Sheriff and PD have had these Whalen siren units for many years...
Thought they already had this siren sound🤔🤔🤔
Sounded much louder than the Sheriffs siren, that’s a plus.
It’s because of speaker location. CHP puts the speaker out front on the push bar, but the Ford PIUs have the speaker buried behind the plastic bumper cover by default so you lose a lot of sound pressure.
Pretty much the siren sounds used in Australia
