- Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 - 5 reasons we love it! KNOX Armour
We’ve been lucky enough to spend the last few months with the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, and in this video Ill be sharing 5 reasons why we think its great!
We have reviewed this bike before and we stand behind our opinion on that and if you want to see the full review, you can find it here - • Royal Enfield Intercep... .
But spending the last few months with the bike, we wanted to share 5 stand out things about the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.
1). It’s a great honest package that’s true to itself.
If you were to look at this bike and imagine how it rides, your assumptions would pretty much be correct; no surprises, its not trying to be something its not. It’s not a sports bike dressed up as a custom, its not old tech dressed up as modern machinery - it is what it is! The Interceptor 650 has got good performance but it’s not fitted with a mega fast engine, it’s got brakes that work pretty great now with the speed and handling, it’s not got a big tft screen, it’s got classic styled tyres, not sports rubber. Everything about the style, ergonomics, the way it rides, the way it performs is really carefully done and has been designed to play into and complement exactly what it is - a great modern retro that’s honest to its styling and impressions.
2). It sounds incredible!
The standard exhaust system on the interceptor sounds incredible! Check out our video on the First ride of spring where we really tried to capture the raw sound of the interceptor and how it kind of thundered its way around the beautiful roads that we have here in the Lake District. • First ride of Spring -...
No need to change anything, Royal Enfield have put a lot of work into the sound design of their motorcycles and the sound of the interceptor is definitely a part of your riding experience and we’d argue that it is one of the best sounds in motorcycling.
3). It handles very well.
Surprisingly, the bike handles amazingly well considering the type of bike it is! It turns really well, holds a nice line, its actually really good to get a hustle on should you wish. The rear shock does get a bit bouncy when you do push on but you can increase the preload on it to counter that.
This point rings true when we saw Paul Young (ex BSB racer) absolutely smoke everyone on a modified contintental GT at the bikeshed festival. Yes it was a fairly modified motor with quite a lot more power than standard, quite a lot less weight, full ohlins suspension, Brembo brakes and stickier tyres, but the foundation remained and Youngy absolutely trounced everyone including some very experienced and well known journalists.
4). It's a crowd pleaser.
Again, you won't know this till you own one, but the interceptor is a massive crowd pleaser! Turn up anywhere and you will be awash with admirers, people taking pictures, people asking you about the bike, reminiscing about memories of their grandads having a Royal Enfield. Turn up to a location with anyone on the latest exotic bike and we guarantee that people will walk straight pass that bike to the Royal Enfield and will be ogling all over it! I’m saying that because I’ve done it, been there and wore the T-shirt!
5). It is incredibly affordable in everyway.
New price for this bike is about £6k which is incredibly affordable for pretty much everyone and nearly 2 years on it would be worth about £1k less than you paid for it. There are not many new bikes that offer that level of affordability insurance is also super reasonable. Insurance partners Devitt quote £107 for fully comp for Mr Average* for this bike which is just incredible!
We hope you enjoyed that and it was helpful! Please check out the Knox range, subscribe and let us know what you think and we’ll see you next time?!

Thanks so much, really appreciate your kind words! Aaron KNOX
At last a review that doesn't compare the RE Interceptor to a twice the price Triumph.
It does compare to some triumph models and it is twice as cheap! That's one of its many pros !
I have one , the orange Interceptor and ride with a mate with a T100 triumph and yes ,,, people are like flies on sh!t when it comes to my RE ,, not that the Triumph has nothing wrong with it , it ,,, just ,,, ?? people like the Royal Enfield's , I also ride with mates with 500cc Enfield's and they get the same response from Joe Public .
I have a Continental GT650 and totally agree with all of these comments. I've had about 30 bikes in my 43 years of motorcycling and it's one of the best I've owned, no question. Being so cheap, it gives you plenty of scope for upgrades and customization if that's your thing, and still be much cheaper than any of the obvious competitors. It's just a joy to ride and makes me smile all the time.
When such a comment comes from someone with 43 years of Motorcycling experience ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you. This reminds me that me too I have more than 45 years of motorbiking an maybe I will consider this bike for some project
This parallel twin is not about the speed, but about sheer pleasure of riding. ❤️
Ah pleasure of riding with wheel wobble , faulty electronics
Very true ✌
Hey I own an interceptor too . Haven't faced any wobble issues .
Using it totally stock.
@@neelgami9210 Waiting for cruiser version of Interceptor
I own a continental gt 650 no wobble issue no electronic issue at all 😂😂😂
I,ve owned a Continental gt 650 for a little over 2 years. I bought it new in Adelaide South Australia. Of all the bikes i,ve owned, and of the 7 bikes i still own this is my favourite. It handles anything i throw at it, including touring, dirt roads and track days. Plus it put a huge smile on my face which stays there the entire ride.
Have you done anything for tube type tyres? Because I only worry about highway speeds and sudden puncture on it.
I bought my Interceptor 650 here in Brazil recently and it is all joy, very satisfied with the motorcycle!
That parallel twin rumble is symphony to ears 🥰
That's damn right
Its the same noise, and firing intervals, as any 90 degree v twin.
The true parallel twin classic sound these days of a 360 degree crank can only be found in the Kawasaki W800.
Edit, its why a lot of people have said the Kawasaki is more of a Triumph than the new Triumphs....
And i still own my bought from new 79 Meriden Triumph....
But yeah, the new Enfield twins, nice bikes, just a bit meh in the engine dept looks.
Understand what i mean, just google what the originals looked like...
@@michaelhayward7572 for that you gonna pay triple the money ?..
@@michaelhayward7572 I am open to knowledge, surely will do that sir, Tnq 👍
@@raguvarang5245 i would not buy either.
If i wanted a retro parallel twin, which i dont, i'd buy a 6 y/o air cooled Triumph 865, same money as a new Interceptor.
I love the simplicity of this bike, even down to the valve adjustment which is such a contrast to the modern motorcycle. At the end of the day it’s all about enjoying the ride, and you don’t need loads of power to have fun.
My mates BMW recently had a flat battery. BMW road side assistance came to jump it. Immobiliser didn’t let it happen. BMW has towed it away.
Meanwhile, my Royal Enfield keeps going. 40,000 km and still strong. Simplicity is king.
I know i sound like a broken record and it's cringe but but,
Its high time Indian manufacturing gets its recognition.
I mean RE 650s have the cleanest and the tightest built engines even compared to JDMs and BMWs.
FortNine did a conclusive video on that. with facts.
@@shree397 I agree.
However, I think the trick is to maintain and build this cleanliness and reliability into the future. This will help build trust in the brand. Hyundai was once a nasty, cheap manufacturer and now makes amazing cars that are often more reliable and more advanced than their competitors.
@@whatsstefon I always find it funny when my friends have an expensive and luxurious vehicle, be it motorcycle or car, has problems. I'll have an old beater just because I'm cheap, and often times with 100k+ miles but still running no problem.
@@tonycj7860 likewise. I have a theory that if a vehicle or item lasts that long, it’ll probably last under my ownership.
Had mine a week, was going to put aftermarket exhausts on. After a week of the standard beautiful burble it’s staying stock, love it. To anyone thinking of buying one, stop thinking, do it!
it sounded good in the video. I think the only reason to change it would be the weight saving.
Worth waiting for 2023 model with alloy wheels? Not sure what else they're changing.
@@not_enoughmana
Take a look at the RE Super Meteor too which is coming Q2 2023 in the U.S.
I've been riding an Interceptor 650 Baker Express for nearly 2 years. It's been an absolute pleasure to take it out on the highways and cover 500-600km a day. Even now I get that adrenaline rush when the bike just pulls you away with it. Its a bike you feel is an extended version of yourself while riding.
What a glorious sound. It’s the sound of old school.
Year into owning an Interceptor, zero regrets and off the chart satisfaction. You’re points are bang on. Though this may be a classic case of confirmation bias, thank you for a great video.
Thanks Roy, glad you love it! Aaron KNOX
I'm a year in with the Glitter n Dust Chrome Interceptor and I'm loving it too
I'm about a month into ownership and I have no regrets as well :). It's got more than enough power and bucket loads of character. I love it!
How many gears does it have please?
@@michaelcoward1902 , the 650 has 6 gears - 1 down, 5 up.
I do own an Interceptor 650 and every word you said is just true. I have clocked just about 20000 KMs but have not got over the admiration yet. It's just a beauty ❤️
Just coming up to 12 months of ownership of my Interceptor and can say I absolutely love it. I'm used to riding old bikes, and the beauty of the Enfield is that you get a very similar experience, but with enhanced performance and reliability
I agree with every word of yours. I am owning Interceptor 650 and have clocked 20,000 kms so far and am still not over with my admiration of the bike.
What is the average mileage you are getting?
@@sugavaneshver4382 28 kms per litre. I have a habit of changing gears when ever the engine reaches 3000 rpm and I don’t cross 4000 rpm
I've had my Interceptor for almost 2 years and I love it.
So right about all the RE models pulling a crowd. I have a Himalayan and initially found it odd that so many people east to have a photograph taken next to it.
Amongst all the other CZcams videos of this interceptor 650, yours is the best in bringing out the sound quality of this fine motorcycle even with stock exhausts.
Thanks 👍, we're trying!
That's a spot on comment 👍👍
Incredible value! I am still running on my stock exhausts and my mates compliment the sound it makes.
I fitted Lextec silencers, wonderful sound...
Knox is the only channel I know that appreciates all kinds/brands of motorcycles. ❤️

@@KnoxArmour cool! Ride safe Aaron 🔥✌️
It’s a fantastic little bike, well deserving of its success. Simple, affordable, easy to work on (comes with a halfway decent toolkit) and eminently customisable. It also comes in far more interesting and daring colour schemes than the Triumph twins. Compared to my Bonnie, sure the fit and finish isn’t quite there, but it’s not as different as the 3-4k you’ll save. Great warranty and service costs, too. RE really knocked it out of the park.
I think its on par with the ones you mentioned! not much different with the 900cc models i think the enfield sounds better with the 270degree crank and the 6 speed trans is way better than triumphs 5 speed.
I’ve had one since the end of 2019. It’s a great bike to ride.
I know another RE 650 on the street just by that engine clatter. Love seeing them
1. Narrower bars focus the handling/steering up nicely
2.gold valve emulators in the forks do the same even more, make the ride smoother
3. New. tires, particularly Avon make cornering a whole lot more fun. Feeling confident in hard lean angles.
Small things to make a great bike better
Lot of pleasure riding this bike, and indeed surprisingly she attracts people, they use to compliment for the good maintenance thinking it's a vintage motorcycle :)
😁😅
This is my first motorcycle, I've booked one in April and am really waiting to get my hands on it!
Super Karthik.Even I am planning to get one
Good for you 🤠
Super excited to get a bike like this standard
Royal Enfield ❤️🇮🇳
Your view matches my thoughts on my own Interceptor 650. Perfect for me as a returning rider having last owned a motorcycle in the 1980s.
So happy to see this today. I've been looking at this bike real hard lately!!
Brilliant video, got everything I love about my 650 silver spectre after 2 years 3 months on. Simplistic proper bike ❤️
Appreciate the low angle footage showcasing the stock sounds of the bike.
I'll be joining the Royal Enfield club soon :D
Me too hopefully 😊. Are you gonna buy new?
Congrats. Good decision. Which bike do you buy?I have the gt650 for 2 months now and i'm sooo happy with it. It's just an amazing bike. You won't regret it.
Stay safe and have fun with it.

Simplicity at its finest! The sound is just 👌
Can't wait until I get mine! I'm so happy we have this bike as an alternative to the somewhat similar but rather expensive Boneville. Its classic looks are really marvelous!
I have had mine since last July and could not be more happy! Great bike to get back into riding after 9 years out. Can not go wrong with this machine.
Oooohhhh nice channel. Your videos are stunning. The Lake District scenery helps, but man oh man these videos are well put together.
Absolutely agree with you on point 4 - a group of us were out riding and my Interceptor got a big thumbs up from some people in the back of a pick-up truck while the rest of the group were ignored, including a brand new Triumph Thruxton. Lovely bike to ride, it puts a smile on my face every time I go out on it.
Obsolutely enjoyed your video, excellent view point on the 650 Twin. It really takes the Royal Enfield brand the next level globally. I currently ride a 2017 Classic 500 as a daily rider.
Have my Continental GT on order and will be collecting it next month - can't wait! Had a test ride on the Interceptor too and it's equally lovely, agree with all the points mentioned.
I completely agree with your comments. I’ve had my Interceptor for eighteen months now and absolutely love it!
Hi Aaron, I can fully agree with your comments. I bought my Interceptor in Feb last year (the Orange Crush colour) . I had been away from bikes for around 10 years, the last bike being a FJ 1200 Yam (an absoulty superb machine), so I just want a simple, light bike, reasonable power, that handled oh & it had to look good ! The Interceptor ticks all the boxes, only things I've added are the flyscreen, Powerrage slip-ons ( I found the oringal mufflers to big for panniers) & the Powerrage do look more in keeping with the bike & sound a bit better too! I also replaced the standard air filter with the DNA one incl DNA plate / bracket. Extremley happy with this bike & it's true they really are a crowd pleaser. Cheers from Downunder.
Andrew
Love how it looks. Considering it as my first bike after I get my full A license.
Great video guys! Love your locations as always! I recently had to make the extremely difficult decision between the Continental and the Himalayan. Ended up choosing the latter because it better suited my requirements and the road conditions where I'm from. Don't get me wrong - I'm absolutely head over heels in love with my Himalayan, but I will forever stare longingly at every passing Interceptor until I can add it to my garage one day.
I got Int650 and I’m eyeing for Himalayan!! For touring Ofc.
@@zedwarrior1866 I'd have been in your shoes too if I had pulled the trigger on the int650 too. Himalayan seat, riding posture significantly more comfortable! Still can't help envying interceptor owners. It's just a thing of beauty.
Taking my CBT next weekend and then going Direct Access after that, and it's looking like my first bike is going to be an Interceptor! Great video guys - stellar production quality as always. Cheers!
Thanks Tim, best of luck on your test! Aaron KNOX
I`m not surprised by this review, I bought a near new 2nd hand one in gorgeous blue 9 months ago It is the best thing ever. I`m constantly throwing money at my work van but this gem of a bike doesn't ask anything of me and just supplies me with endless pleasure and joy. It`s as though it loves me.
Nice review as usual Knox, the r.e seems to have rave reviews across the web! And appears to offer outstanding value ,putting other brands to shame, Well done R.E 👏
Like your videos a lot, the great sound and the handling , things I love about my 650 silver spectre since more than a year!! Cheers my friends!!
Good straightforward and accurate review. The power of the bike is in the riding experience. As to ergos, I have a comfy single saddle from another bike and a custom carrier to cover the exposed fender. I can go between the stock seat to a sporty custom look in a few minutes. I also moved both sets of pegs down and fwd. It's a fun canvas to play around with.
Thanks John, glad you agree! Aaron KNOX
A heartiest thanks 🙏 to you sir from the very depths of my beloved heart ❤️ for giving us this awesome positive feedback about one of the best classic retro twin bikes in the world. And I am really honoured to share with you that I am also one of the greatest diehard fans of Royal Enfield and I have bought my beloved interceptor 650 twin in custom ravishing red colour last year and do believe me the bike is quite stunning and muscular and mindblowing. And all your 5 points are quite real and authentic. I’m an owner of a 535 GT and had the luck of test driving the Interceptor. What a jump royal enfield did. It’s like 50 years forward compared to mine! Great job and amazing bike.
Thanks for vid! The First time i get reasonable informations and thoughts about interceptor. I even mostly like the old school mashines, the honest worker. And the interceptor logicweise is one of my favourites, absolutely...
I'm in my first week of owning the interceptor 650. Wow wow and wow.
Great handling, good power and very comfortable ride position. The sound is awesome and it's truly a very good looking machine. Highly recommend.

Got one in July 2019, expecting I'd want an upgrade a year or two into it. It hasn't happened. If anything, I'm happier now than when I got it. Truly a great bike. And all of this coming from someone who wasn't a Royal Enfield fan at all!
Love the video! Well shot and well spoken. I’ve been getting into royal enfields because it fits my style and budget and this is solidifying my choice even more!
Top review! Actually the best done to date on this iconic bike. Beautiful scenery too! RE ought to be very impressed, no in house PR company could have matched this for the clarity of message and emotive footage. Genuine bike, maybe the only one out there.
Thanks so much for your kind feedback, really appreciate it. We're genuinely passionate about our products and riding motorcycles... you cant pay anyone to replicate that. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
Extremely pleased with the purchase of the twins! A beautiful bike indeed.
Thanks for the info - now I am REALLY tempted!

great video.. I just recently purchased a Himalayan and am enjoying it more each day.
In 2017 I went to the RE dealership many times to see and buy the 650. It was held up with no date of arrival. I bought a street twin instead. I am so happy with it.
Love the back to basic motorcycle RE brings to the market.

I really need an Interceptor. I don’t need more power, especially with today’s speed limits.
I went from 130hp to the 45hp of the interceptor. Couldn't be happier. It's so much more enjoyable to ride at lower speeds. I'll feel like I'm speeding and then I look at the speedo and I'm not even going the speed limit.
