  • Playin' "Fore Day Blues" by the great Ishmon Bracey
Ishmon Bracey (January 9, 1899[1] or 1901 - February 12, 1970), sometimes credited as Ishman Bracey, was an American Delta blues singer-guitarist.[2] Alongside his contemporary Tommy Johnson, Bracey was a highly influential bluesman in Jackson, Mississippi, and was one of the area's earliest figures to record blues material. Bracey's recordings include "Trouble Hearted Blues" and "Left Alone Blues", both of which appear on several compilation albums.
"Fore Day Blues" was recorded the same day as "Trouble Hearted Blues". Bracey recorded two takes of it on August 31, 1928

This absolutely sounds as a recording from back then. Your playing, your voice(!), damn… Many try but this is something else.

Fantastic ! Great playing & fab singing. Love the actual recorded sound.
Sounds like a Paramount WITHOUT the frying bacon.
Would you share your recording gear secrets ? Are you go straight into a modern digital interface, or perhaps your vintage mic is going into a valve preamp first ?

I'm glad you like it! In this particular video I used a valve pre-amp between the mic and the audio interface, the UA610 solo. I actually sold it a few days ago cause I wasn't using it that much lately, I like the warmth you can get but the improvement is very subtle in my opinion (compared to what it cost) and I'm planning to record outdoor videos only from now on cause It's so much fun! cheers

@@OscarWolf84 - that's funny - as I like this video the best - it somehow sounded warmer to me. I have no real experience recording, other than being involved in my friend Richard W Rinn's youtube recordings (maybe you have seen some ?) - usually one mic, into a LA610mk2 preamp with compressor to fatten the sound (& boost it) then he uses a "cheap" in-line pad device to lower the signal before plugging into a Zoom R16 multi-channel recorder.
Check his stuff out - lots of videos - solo, duo, combos of an assorted mix of Edinburgh and Glasgow musicians (I'm on some of the sessions, generally doing Elmore James & Muddy Waters tunes), but a lot of the guys are into the Lester Melrose recordings of various pre&post war blues guys.:

Also, I believe you are friends with Balta Bordoy ? I first met him about 30yrs ago, in Palma, Majorca, when he already a great guitarist ! I got back in touch with him back in 2019 - and we've met up a few times, even did a gig there a while back. Great guy. Loving your stuff though.

@@snakehips81 Yes, I talked to Richard in fb and I've seen every video he uploads, Thomas aswell, I love what you do and would love to meet you guys one day and play some, maybe do some recordings aswell...
I know Balta but we're not friends I've seen him playing once.
