- Today, we're continuing a multi-video journey on which we will be building historically accurate and authentic city designs in Manor lords, a highly anticipated city-building game! I will explain how the game works as I play and explain some historical details as we go!
Manor Lords on Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/13...
Manor Lords is a strategy game that allows you to experience the life of a medieval lord. Grow your starting village into a bustling city, manage resources and production chains, and expand your lands through conquest.
Inspired by the art and architecture of late 14th century Franconia, Manor Lords prioritizes historical accuracy wherever possible, using it to inform gameplay mechanics and visuals alike. Common medieval tropes are avoided in favor of historical accuracy, in order to make the world feel more authentic, colorful, and believable.

Let me ask you this: Why are you not subscribed yet?
But I am subscribed though
I forgor 🥲
How did you get the game?
But I am 🤔 now, let me ask you: why only a single manor Lords each day? Surely you could play it 8+ hrs a day just to sate my hyped up thirst 🙃
On a serious note, I am so excited to have you covering Manor Lords! It's both entertaining AND educational 👌
But, my Lord, I am subscribed!
Been refreshing your channel waiting for a video the whole day, i don't know how i can wait another 6 days to play the game myself, pure torture.
Same here, I'm addicted
Same! This channel has me hooked
Same here lol!
Same here lmao! i'm far too excited for this game, far more than any other game ever.

Without being a complete product, this game has Hall of Fame written all over it. Stunning.
The potential it has right now is insane.
Everytime he follows a serf or upgrades a building I just go: "Wow".
About the shrines, in eastern Europe, shrines are usually put at crossings, or whereve two roads meet or diverge, as it is said that the devil has the most power at this intersections, since you can get lost at intersections by just following the wrong road, so can the devil misguide you
That's very fascinating actually, never knew this!
@@restitvtor439 yes, it is also common at least where i am from to cross yourself whenever you walk through an intersection
It might have been the other way around in Germany. On prominent road crossings, bodies of criminals were displayed, aswell as "self-killers" and other outcasts were, as a warning, buried.
These graves were in the popular imagination the spawning point of the ghosts of those unfortunate dead people. For example headless horsemen were said to haunt road crossings (headless because suicide victims were behead before they were buried).
This folklore made it across the ocean. The famous Robert Johnson song, "Crossroads," (covered many times and most notably by Cream and Eric Clapton) is a reference to the mythical story of Johnson making a deal with the devil at the crossroads.
@@szlonkobusjbusj3819Varies by region. I am from southern Austria. Here they are common at crossroads, but it’s not unusual to see them in the middle of a forest or at the roads leading to or even just outside a farmhouse. Erected for all sorts of reasons. To thank God, to mourn someone, etc.
A shrine or church near the battlesite in Selbitz might be a nice touch.
Imma steal this idea once the game is out. Thanks.
This is an amazing touch
Keep in mind, a church at a site meant to be a shrine to a battlesite, would be done either at the battle site where the ruler defeated his rival to become King, or done years later to rally a population in support of your political beliefs.
A church in Medieval times is a mechanism of population control, education, pacificism, introduction to global economy. It also begins integrating the local population and land owning classes into having some land given to the church, a multinational organization that operates according to a different mindset and rules in terms of what that land produces and where the Products go.
Worst place to farm? Graveyard.
Absolutely!
@@skyanimal Also very true. Big example was William of Normandy building an Abbey on the Hawthorne Ridge which the English Line ran along, and King Harold and many on both sides died on.
Did I just binge-watch 7 days worth of Manorlords content for 4-5 hours? Hell yeah I did

I swear, waiting for your next video is one of the most excruciating tests of patience I have ever faced. I've tried watching a bunch of other's Manor Lord videos but none is making them as satisfyingly as yours. I simply love your play style so, so much!
It's always a treat watching these, your Victoria 3 or CK3 videos. They're just so much superior in terms of what they offer. Thank you for these vids!
It really is crazy this game was made by only one person, it looks way better then games made by large studios
Keep in mind this game has been in dev for 15 years
@@purpleey I think the new Suicide Squad game was in development for around the same period of time.
Loving the playthrough for the historical roleplaying and references.
If I had one criticism it’d be how you set paths/roads. E.g. 23:38 you watch the barterer take the path of least resistance, then you place a path leading away from the one he took. I guess I only notice because everything else you do you consider how the world around them would inform that decision.
The Blumery would generate iron pellets (blumeries are messy, have to sort thru ash and clay).
A Blacksmith would create a hot enough fire to burn those ingots (or crushed powdered iron) and poor into a mold, usually an "ingot" form.
Then, immediately hammer the iron and fold it for half an hour, while keeping the fire hot to keep the metal flexible.
A team of hammerers would beat the iron slab as the main Blacksmith heated and folded the iron. He would realize when the impurities were beaten out of the iron and the metal sturdy enough to be forged into a finish product, or into an "ingot" for transport to another Blacksmith who can make it into something useful.
You could print a mark on the ingot to identify it, it's quality.
I could be wrong, but to my knowledge this stuff worked a little differently.
First the iron ore would be smelted in bloomeries, chemically turning it into iron bloom by reducing the iron oxide into metallic iron using carbon monoxide.
Then in a second step this bloom was beat and folded to force out slag (mostly silicon dioxide and unreduced iron oxide) turning it into wrought iron.
The iron was never being molten during this process.
Look up tamahagane for katanas, it was more like that
What I find really interesting is the fact that your first retinue seems to have a size of 30 out of 48 maximum. And as I recall, you built several garrison towers on your fortified hill in your starting territory. So it seems that each and every garrison tower increases the maximum size of your retinue in a given territory. The more garrison towers you build, the larger your retinue can become. I cannot wait to play around with that!
The garrison does increase the retinue size but it’s currently bugged. It’s supposed to be limited to 1
One CC made a retinue of over 1k using that bug. I doubt it will still be in the 26th April release though.
From one proud Badener to one proud Bavarian: good job! Your amazing videos are probably the best advertising the developer could ever hope for. They certainly got me exited for the game.
What are your pc specs? I hope the game will run well with decently pretty settings on my GTX1660 super ...
i think nice addition to the series would be if you pull some IRL photos or screenshots from google maps of type of villages you're talking about but overall absolutely loving these videos and can't wait for 26th
as a polish person I FRICKINGLOVE when you sometimes throw in German words

I would love for you to talk about Raseneisenerz. I grew up in the Spreewald and when you know where to look for you can still find the ditches in the forrest where they mined their iron ore in flat land.
Im glad the sheep question was addressed. Shame they cant be traded between regions.
THEY ACTUALLY CAN BE (I just found out in the ML Discord and already recorded tomorrow's video, but AFTER that I will be trading them) - it's a bit unclear and I think not very intuitive at all, but I will be trading my ever breeding sheep!
@@OneProudBavarianI saw an article headline saying there was some bug/exploit surrounding sheep. Have you seen anything about this or come across it in your game play?
Can't wait for this game to come out, these 6 days ought to be longer than a month 😭😭😭
Same, this games been on my Steam wishlist for 2 years. I can't wait
This is my go-to manor lords vid nowadays 🔥🔥🔥
I have two questions:
1: Is a Cathedral a building option here or is it strictly a church?
2: Can you build other religious buildings (Shrines, convents, monasteries, etc)? If so, could your next village building video be something akin to a monastic village or an archbishopric (where seat of faith and seat of politics were one and the same)?
all of this would be very cool but its not part of the early release version as far as I'm aware
@@Niveaufriedhofchef Dang. Would be fun to see.
Don't forget it will be early access. Expect more specialized settlements (like a monastery) later down the road, maybe even as a paid dlc.
You know its early access, so why are you asking these pointless questions?
@@duncanharrell5009 I have a feeling we'll see a big expansion onto the religious buildings later. Building a cathedral akin to how the manor is done for example as its own big multi-part structure.
I think you definitely stunted your regions by not using trade to it's fullest.
You have so much excess stuff laying around that could be sold. For example, 700 wool, 100+ shields, 100+ bows etc. Thinking immersively, these products are the artisans/workers/farmers livelihood and anything excess to their own needs would either be bartered or sold.
From the money gained selling those products you'd then be able to import some of the items you've been struggling on. Stuff like extra variety in food or raw resources you are partially short on (like berries/dye).
I agree!
It honestly mostly came down to me steering clear of trade in this version as I had seen that it can lead to infinite resources even if that is not what I desired!
With the changes made there by the dev for the release version, I will dive heavily into that then!
@@OneProudBavarian Ah, definitely fair if it was bugged like that
This is absolutely the best series in all of the Manor Lords CZcams realm.
Crazy how much this looks like Kingdom Come. They finally released the trailer for KC2 and both of these games have me hyped.
I think using tools to upgrade the backyards makes sense, but it can also stifle early/mid game growth, which is probably why they removed it. It might make more sense that certain specific upgrades require tools, such as the creation of the blacksmith improvement, the bloomery, the mill, the deep mine, or some other buildings which need heavier metal tools or components to work. This would make tool creation more important, but not the focal point, and wouldn't really hurt growth if you just paid attention.
You could build a homless camp near the iron pit and upgrade it to a workers camp, that really reminds me of Kingdom come deliverance.
I think the trade logistics development is smart point spending bc it caps the price of opening a trading route, and you need to do that to import and export anything. I rly like how you’re updating us with the history aspect too
i feel everyones anguish about having to wait on this game. me just getting ideas for medieval town layouts by watchin your videos over other people. im used to Anno games so i know ill like this one but man what id give to play a demo or somethin!
This is so satisfying to watch, thank you very much OPB!
“Suboptimal” is the most polite German criticism in a single English word. Bravo Herr OPB
Have been loving your videos on this game, and how you treat it with historical info in mind.
I am so hyped for the full release!!
Your thoughtful naming of villages gave me a flashback of how my birthtown got its name "Sigmaringen", because simply the founder was named Sigmar.
The town of sigma 🤓
Praise Sigmar!
Schön, freue mich auf das Spiel seit 2021 und jetzt sind es nur noch 6 Tage, wow
Needs a Walmart and a 4 lane highway with a truckstop.
Thank you so much for playing like an intelligent person, instead of an inebriated toddler like the rest of the early access youtube creators
Imho, the 'circle town' didn't grow as fast and as sophisticated as the 'eye town' because it only have one access (one way in and one way out) to the (centre of) town. And the centre of the town is a market place and sheep field, not a landmark. It's not very fancy.
While the 'eye' town has Church (building with the tallest tower, biggest frontyard for gathering, and fence), Tavern, and other fancy buildings in the centre town.
Though the 'circle' town is perfect for defense, because it's naturally fortificatication even without a wall, but I think it's bad for the market or economy (the best place for market and trading place is close to busy roads, especially King's road/main road). So rather than sheep's field, maybe it'll perfect for 'circle' town to have manor buildings and in the centre of it, with plaza with shrine for people gathering (beside the market place). Then, maybe build a wall around the 'circle' town. Bam! You have the second castle! 🎉
It is so satisfying watching it all grow, even more so than Ostriv. City builder of the decade for sure, and so much more to come. What a great job you’ve done here. Can’t wait to see what you’ll build after full release. Definitely buying the game myself once it’s released. Will be following your channel closely from now on
Have been really enjoying this series. Looking forward to seeing you play through the full game too. Might actually pick this one up myself. I'm excited to see what will come later down the line.
The journey continues! So excited for this game 😊
Great video! Waiting for another episode.
I am enjoying these daily video. Your efforts are appreciated
I’m so hyped for this game and your next video
love the concept for this series. hope you can continue with the same well thought out ties to history
Compliments, such beautiful villages! Kind regards from Austria
You sir, are an artist. Thank you for the daily videos!
love your appreciation for the history!
What a treat! Manor Lords played by a real German! Adding flavor and context to this BEAUTIFUL game! Subscribed!
Everytime you start a new village/town layout I'm like 'I'm going to do that one... no that one! No wait, this one!' :D I now have no idea what my first village will look like... but I do like the idea of specifically orienting a region to certain exports (clay, iron etc.) and importing bows and such to it and keeping the village small.
Realistic looking layout . Very nice .
not sure how game changing it is, but be sure to add herbs to your forager hut-they help with healing and keeping villagers healthy and working
Glad our boy Jorg made it to make history again in the Battle for Selbitz
Rivers, and all the building going with it ❤ Like you said the lifeblood of many (if not lost) settling of this time.
It will be a good extent for the game. Maybe for some add-on latter ? With news maps 😍
Ƿes ðu hal, frēond.
Love your passion, enthusiasm and the insights into our history!
Looking forward to release day.
Subscribed.
Be well.
Idea: Since wayward shrines were also often erected in commemoration of a tragedy or a heinous crime, you could place a shrine after every battle in which you made losses (two if it was a retinue).
i feel so annoyed that i can see you injoy the game, and i have to wait
but it does bring me some joy to seeing your vids
This game needs to release right *meow!*
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO
THAT WAS AWESOME TO WATCH!!!
Lehmdorf fits well. I know in Saskatchewan there is a village of Claybank where they made bricks.
It would also be possible to have a single house with a massive backyard as a vegetable garden and pretend its a garlic farm or cabbage farm maybe. Not sure how good it would look
Iirc there is a limit on a burgage plot size, i recall that from a different youtuber
@@KarolOfGutovo Then maybe you could arrange some plots with the largest possible backyards together to make them look like one big orchard or vegetable farm.
Does size change the output?
@@JJMB27 afaik not for goats and chickens, yes for veggie gardens and... idk bout orchards tbh
I wish this gave you a choice of starting cultures. Like French, English, Slav, German, or Rus.
i like that idea! maybe it's something that'll be implemented down the line
I think they got a looong long way to go to get this game feature complete for actual full release before they can even think about additional cultures but it certainly would be nice to have more options maybe via DLC later on.
Unfortunate that the save is non transferrable to early access but I'm looking foward more-so to seeing what you will do now that you are more knowledgeable about the game
I really hope the game has mod support. There are some 1400s structures I wanna try to port
I am addicted with this series
Watched another Manor Lords video, where the trading unlocks were used and this is incredibly powerful.
It seems to me, that if you really wanted to have rapid production of weapons and armor, you would establish a artisan focused hamlet next to where the iron mining is. A lot of your workers time is currently taken up by just transporting the materials. You want your mining, processing, and production closer together. You could get double the output with half the workers. That goes with every industry in the game.
game looks like i should buy it. like banished but without all the rectangle stuff, and more realism maybe.
i think im addicted to this series.
You are the best!
I can't wait until tomorrow
this videos are extremely good
Been waiting for this game for so long just so I could make a Bavarian kingdom myself!
I hope they will add cobble stone road options around lvl 2-3 buildings, market areas and churches, it would give more of an urbanized middle age style vibe
"What a tool!"
"Yeah, that's all the smithy ever does..."
I really hope they add in stone roads. It would look amazing to have them by your L3 buildings or the market area. 🤷♂️
The Orchards are quite lucrative in trade, so is armor and weapons. Storage units are important to for food.
really promising game, cant wait for early access
42:36 looks sick!
my God that last battle was painful to watch
Im thinking about what a mod for manor lord would look like. I can imagine a mod that take place in a different era, like the colonial expansion to America with the first settlers of the french colonies building and trying to survive the new world. And of course the introduction of guns in manor lords would be something im sure people can figure out how to make like many other games that would change the dynamic of battles, ether against natives trying to chase the settlers off their lands, making alliances with some native tribes instead of mercenaries. And of course wars with other colonies. Whatever the future could look like I know this game has a lot of potential for mods and other. But even without those this is already a very good game and I can’t wait to see more of this.
Kind a weird move to send archer in front. ?
Yea, usually spear with shields is in the front and the archers behind, for a good reasons. To protect the archers.
I think he wants to give a lot of damages and put down a lot of enemy first, before they're engaged in close combat, but that's just triggered the enemy to run and attack asap, that's why he called the archers back then placed them behind the spearman and the shield after the enemy arrives (which is looks messy and panic, irl the archers could get hurt when they're running to move behind the spearman, and it ruining the spearman lines and shields barricade because they have to give a room for archers to run behind them), while ordering the swordman to attack, in quick time event! (when enemy already attacking them). It's looks so messy, panic, and no dicipline.
I believe that the ore is turned into ingots.
Waiting for these everyday! Lovely videos about this game. As someone interested in history it is literally like porn. Liebe es!
Anyone know what this game is going to cost? I'm really so excited to buy this, it looks amazing
imagine this game having 1v1 pvp setting, something like a very slow paced age of empires...it would be great
Orchards also don't work. The pops wont eat
don't know if this would work but maybe have sheep to fertilize the fields with the tech to increase the fertility in Lemhdorf
Funny how the majority of comments seem to be from Germans writing in English XD
Also I really like all this background information you provide
I feel like those segmented/spangenhelm helmets are over-represented for the time period. I'm guessing it's set in about 1330-40 and they don't look right for the era.
Would you do a challenge run once the early access release comes around?
Try to dismiss the elite units, create six units of archers/spearmen/etc and then re-enlist the elites... maybe you'll get over the limit.
So... we can have more than one village on the same section of the map? or is it all the same village?
I plan to build an anglosaxon burh, as a main settlement, when I get the game
42:09 how did you get 48 retinue cap?
Was there any reason you didnt claim the two empty regions on the back of the map, so you dont have to fight for them later if the baron nabs them? Iirc you dont need to be adjacent to them to claim.
Hey, it's thebausffs's alt account! Jokes aside, nice building ideas!
VICTORY!!!
The ground for some of the farmlands is bad for farming and i see that from how the slopes are and how it's formed and some land next to it would be way better
What happened to the “bandits burned my village” title of the last video? Lol
Would be really cool if you made use of real Historic military tactics alongside with your knowledge of historical town layouts!
good
