  • I like to adhere to this principle: spend lavishly on the things that you love and cut out spending on the things that you don't. I'm covering 8 things that I stopped buying and have no regrets about!
    What's one thing that you stopped buying? Tell me in the comments!

    Ditto on the purses. I have been buying Madewell purses for the past six years and it’s been a game changer. Real leather. Quality. Timeless.

    Happy New Year 2022!! Love your take on art for the wall! Love the wall of pinning where you traveled. That's genius

    Great video! I agree that it is very important for us to STOP buying things that we are not passionate about. I also really love that you shared that quote about "spending lavishly on things you love". A lot of people hear "stop spending", but don't realize that what we are saying is, "spend on what brings you joy, but stop spending on the rest that really is unnecessary!"

      Yeah - I think you can still spend money (and big money) on things that you love. I'm here for it!

    Spamming the comments here but I LOVE books so much that to me it’s worth the money and space. It brings me great joy even to fan through the pages and look at them on the shelf.

    I stopped buying paper towels for years, had no regrets. Recently changed to purchase again for convenience for this season of my life, but know I can go back when this season passes.

    My biggest give up was...
    •I stopped shopping at grocery stores, for the most part. I replaced these store with Everyplate and Daily Harvest. Less waste, less buying extra junk from the grocery stores. I have saved money this way.
    •I have my own art in my house and very few reproductions.
    •I stop buying clothing I don't need. I upcycle the clothing I have had for years, the classics at least.

    Can i switch bras for purses? I shop for vintage purses at thrift stores, but i love having good underwire bras. It's all about support. 😆

      Some of my best bags have been thrifted. I have a Furla doctor bag I scored second hand for $50 and my favorite clutch was $20. I buy new as well. Either option can be great buys.

      Vintage purses are great, too! I think I just gravitate towards well made purses now -- quality material and stands up to the test of time (and the surfaces I lay them on haha)

    Same😉
    *In salon hair coloring, i agree with you!
    *Gym membership
    *Cheap purses: i get quality leather purses from the outlets or Tjmaxx, i only have 5 and one is a diaper backpack now.
    *Cable
    *High end make up
    * multiple video subscriptions at the same time. We only pay for one.
    Others:
    *The newest phones, i wait until my phone needs to be replaced and still do not get the most expensive phone.
    *fashion jewelry
    * throw pillows
    *meal subscriptions
    *Cheap jeans that do not fit the way i love and get ruined easily. I love AE jrans so i get them once a year on black Friday.

      Phone! That's a good one. I wait until mine needs to be replaced too. I have the iPhone X and will wait until it doesn't work anymore.

    I have actually completely converted to buying expensive bras. Granted, a cheap bra in my size doesn't even exist it seems. So once a year in my birthday month(I get 20% off then), I buy 2 bras for about $80-$100 each. It's so worth the money to have something that fits me well and so far they have held up quite well. I no longer spend money on any streaming service or cable. CZcams has more than enough content I find.

    • @DebtFreeMillennials
      @DebtFreeMillennials  Před 2 lety

      I was just talking to a client yesterday about how they just watch CZcams on TV more than anything else. It's pretty cool that regular people who make CZcams videos end up being the source of entertainment. I love that ☺

    We stopped buying tissues (toilet paper works just the same), paper towels (just use a hand towel), and more for the ladies, I stopped buying tampons. The cup is amazing, and has reduced my monthly spending so much!

    Had I met you in another life, you and I would've been BFF's. I refuse to do all of these BUT the books. Have sooo many and I dont know what to do with them 🤣 (and dont want to donate cause majority are signed by authors)

    I've cut out cheap clothing, shoes, and handbags. I worked fashion retail so long that it's hard to buy low quality when you know better. I buy less but buy what I want. It's about comfort, style, and durability. I also don't buy cheap food because it's cheap. I do watch my grocery budget and some things just happen to be cheaper but I don't purposely choose mediocre items just to save. I found that when I bought bargain items it didn't keep me inspired to cook and I would just end up eating out. I focus on whole foods that can stretch across many recipes and a few gourmet splurges on occasion. Buying the foods I enjoy saves me money in the long run. I will also never do AirBNB again unless it is a super luxury spot for a really long term stay (which never happens on my schedule or budget). I'm over feeling like I'm in someone's home and not getting the full amenities of a nice boutique hotel. AirBNB also used to be cheaper. Now, I can spend a bit more for a hotel. I want to travel and be able to feel luxurious and know there is staff on deck. My Chase Sapphire card rewards also paid for my last hotel stay. I might as well be using or earning travel points.

    • @DebtFreeMillennials
      @DebtFreeMillennials  Před 2 lety

      We used our points from Chase to book a hotel in LA. I looove using points for travel. Such a good hack!

    I feel a little differently about the bras. I brought a bunch of maternity/nursing underwire bras from Target and the underwire started poking me (annoying!) so I ended up with a bunch of useless bras. I do wash my bras on gentle cycle and hang dry, I’m not sure if that makes a difference, but I’ve had victoria secret underwire for years and never have a problem.

    • @livritz101
      @livritz101 Před 2 lety +2

      I am with you, I buy Victoria Secret as well. Other brands quality is not the same. I only buy bras from VS that are on sale. I have never spent more than $35 on a bra. I wash the bras the same way also.

    • @yojs17_
      @yojs17_ Před 2 lety +1

      @@livritz101 yes I buy them during the semi annual sale. I’m not picky about the style but the quality is great.

      When Im not nursing I love VS bras also. I shop the semi annual sale as well and love them!
      With my first daughter i bought bras from Target and they didnt hold up very well. But im currently expecting our second child and I found some really good quality bras at Target that do not have underwire and are extremely comfortable! Ive been using them my entire pregnancy and i think there going to hold up for out nursing journey. They we only about $16.99 the brand is Auden.

    I bought my car brand new off the lot in 2011 when cars were much cheaper and it lasted for 12 years. Buying new cars is not always a bad decision unless you’re a Dave Ramsey cultist.

    *Rich people plays the money game to win.* *Poor people plays the money to not lose.* *The goal of the truly rich people is to have massive wealth. while the poor sees a surplus as an opportunity for consumption instead of lnvesting it.*

    S O many of these. cable hasn’t been cut yet. the problem is that companies in my area make it more expensive to “unbundle”.
    👉 in my video, i talked about not buying expensive cookware and tech upgrades.
    👏👏 thanks for making this one…your complete list is very down to earth & practical!

    I have to disagree with the bra choice. Lol as someone with big boobs, better quality and better support is necessary. Bras my size are hard to find at cheap stores.
