The Škoda Transtech manufacturing is in Otanmäki, Kajaani. It was a mining town that ran out of ore and the present railway engine and car industry is a replacement from the 1985s, initially in Finnish hands.
ah; I thought Otanmäki is located near Oulu; so is the news true that VR was forced to buy 20 additional Edm sleeping cars in 2009 ?
@@doc7austinI'm not aware of anyone forcing any deals.
@Itapirkanmaa2 its noted on wikipedia about the Edm sleeping car
@@doc7austin Search for resiina kaksikerrosvaunut and ask Google to translate the 1st result.
Great video as usual. Thank you
more Finnish Railways video are coming in the next weeks.
Very nice !!!🥸
Fantastic!
you are welcome !
I have just traveled by Dacia train from Vienna to Bucharest and back. I really liked your video and I finally managed to make my dream come true
traveling by sleeping car through Finland ?
@@doc7austin not yet, time doesn't allow. I'm planning a night train from Berlin to Stockholm
Always love watching your videos 🌹 Though I'd prefer the modern double decker, I would really love to travel classic at least once.
same for me - in the end I am always booking the modern Edm double-deck sleeping car
Thanks for the experience again ! It's as if i was there myself. (reaction under old video was deleted as well)
yes; due to a copyright issue I had to delete the duplicate video; I am glad you liked it
Finland(Suomi) is a beautiful country. Much love from myself, a German from Hannover!
yes; esp. Finnish Lapland is very beautiful during the winter time
Lovely footage. I just wonder how do car owners get to the train? Do they drive in by themselves or they leave it to the personnel?
Have a look at minute 24:20 ; car owners drive their cars onto the auto-carrying rail cars; these railcars are then shunted and attached to the passenger train
Loved this video. Could you please include the bed length! Very important for us tall travelers!
As Finnish train run on Russian broad gauge, I believe the beds are a bit longer than on other European sleeping cars; the bed length was at least 2 meters
Beds are 2 meters long and 75cm wide
🤩
Is it possible to convert the beds into chairs? Or can you only sit in the public carriages? Great video!!
The Russian solution -> there are folding chairs available in the aisle of the sleeping car
Please make iran overnight train journeys
hmmm; iran is out the question to travel to for me; after visiting iran, i would need to apply for a visa to enter the US
any discussion on Finland switching to standard gauge ? is Rail Baltica realistically going to reach Helsinki or is the tunnel till just a distant dream ?
Nobody has the money for such undertakings. All money will be spent on war.
in my eyes it is a distant dream; that tunnel would have to run beneath international waters; russia is going to object
@@doc7austin Russia has no say in it.
Only we have no money, the economy is crashing and we're going into decades of war.
Are you making iran overnight after Finland overnight train
no
Single bed car with private loo & shower
Russian gauge is nowadays 1520mm.
the difference between 1,520 and 1,524 mm is minimal
