This is track 1/16 (+4) in my SDR2 album that will be releasing in anywhere from six months to a years time. Thought I'd start with that one instead of rambling for no reason at the start of the description!
So, let's get this over with: of course I was inspired by Mcki Robyns P. It's hard not to be - the niche of DR fan songs is so tiny! But I wanted to try and make my MV and production as lively and unique as possible. I really hope you enjoy this.
I intend on doing a lyrical analysis of my own music here because there are some really good lyrics - I put in a LOTTTT of double meanings. At one point during the production, my friend asked me 'is this just a Komaeda love song' and I responded, verbatim, 'it's the direct opposite'. And I stuck to that - whilst he's mentioned quite a lot, I did everything within my power to stick to Hajime's REALISTIC perception of the most memorable character. I couldn't not mention him, though. He does a lot! Too much, you could say.
Hajime is my favourite DR protagonist. Hands down. I hope this comes across in my production! Please enjoy.

I JUST realized "the thickened scent of distrust poisons the air" is more than just flowery language lol.
Also I like how the bit that references most of the victims

"ENTERTAINING" (both ibuki and hiyoko's talents relate to entertainment, singing and dancing)
"EVER CHANGING" (Nekomaru turns into a robot after being presumed dead)

There two animes, Danganronpa the animation (which is thh just a bit worst due to no character free time events) & Danganronpa 3 which I would recommend playing goodbye Despair was watching a playthrough first
you get to interact with some of your fav characters in the game so i prefer playing the games tho!! for me, i played the whole game first then watched the other play through. the experience of playing the game is literally in my core memory and amazing, i recommend playing the game

i really enjoyed this song! been playing it on loop 😭 I love the storytelling aspect and how it basically goes through his entire identity crisis from the beginning until the end of the game. like I love the focus on hajime’s character bc the lyrics are so accurate to his canon personality? i feel like his personality and overall character is often overlooked 😞
“Looking around with a scathing eye, knowing I don’t get to say goodbye” - maybe refers to the world he knew before the island? regrets of not being able to wish the people he knew before then a goodbye
“Even better yet, they see me as a threat. They think that I’m keeping a secret…” - this really reminded me of the funhouse chapter how they all thought he was the traitor due to the mystery and distrust basically shrouding his whole identity bc he doesn’t remember his own talent
“Talentless? Do I mean less than them, it’s askew.” - i really love whenever the mistreatment of the talentless is brought up bc 😭 and in such a catchy way too, honestly it’s difficult to decipher the lines about him being talentless because it’s usually amidst the storytelling lines of the plot where he’s still unaware of this aspect of himself
“Should I make the choice when I can’t hear my own voice?” - maybe because his voice is blocked out by the ultimates, since he’s basically nothing compared to them as a talentless person; or him being the one who makes the choice on who they should execute and yet he can’t remember his own talent, basically unable to hear his own voice? this is tricky 😓
“The ones I ‘trust’ can’t be trusted anymore than those I don’t.” - their trust shattering, and the fact that in his eyes, he can no longer trust the remaining survivors like he does with nagito is really something to put into perspective. everybody can be your enemy if you’re put into that situation, and trust is a fragile thing by then
“Subverting expectations, raising the stakes, it’s like a game, like a game. *Game over*.” - i love the little “game over” that chiaki does but it’s basically a direct callout to how the whole thing IS actually a game. and chiaki being the one who says “game over” has a double meaning: one is because she’s the ultimate gamer, and also because the game basically ended for her, quite literally due to her execution. her execution of her being defeated in a game (ironic) makes this line all the more impactful. this is so cool omg
“I’ve been accepted but at what cost, what have I lost?!” - i feel bad for him because he’s lost so much, trying to preserve throughout the whole game with the hope of being an ultimate, only to find out the painful truth of never being an ultimate at all.
“What did I have at the start? Would knowing break me into parts?” - knowing the truth about his identity. it WOULD break him into parts, since being an ultimate ‘something’ gave him the idea that he was on the same level as them. like in the beginning of the game, he at first treated the ultimates as something great out of instinct (like showing them respect and stuff) but ultimately trashes that idea because they’re just normal people, like him. if he had discovered the truth earlier on in the game, he would not have had the confidence to go up against them let alone speak in the trials, and his voice would likely be shunned due to his status as an average nobody
“Deranged and derailed, and too tortured to prolong” - The game has turned deranged, and everybody has been tortured by having to remain alive for so long is something I’m picking up from this, like they’re basically hanging on by a thread 😞
“But still why should I care? The thickened scent of distrust poisons the air.” - i love how this is so similar to his mindset in the final trial, where he was giving up hope, no longer caring about the positives and no longer caring about anything at all in general
“And then meeting his eyes, I realised I’ve lost this time.” - this line is SO interesting and I have no idea where to start on it. discovering nagito’s plan of wanting to sacrifice everybody because they were all remnants, and the impossible way of finding the culprit basically meant he lost the game they were playing. he’s completely powerless in the decision they make, and they’re forced to comply with Nagito’s plan of weeding out the traitor, or else they’d all be killed. Hajime has no say in the matter, and neither do the rest of them
“Thrown to the sidelines, always questioned why I couldn’t have that life.” - reminds me of dr3 hajime staring at the main course building because he was stuck in the reserve course building, unable to live the life of an ultimate despite everything. going to the academy was because he’d thought of ultimates as something amazing and he’d always yearned for it, and yet he could never have it because he was an average person with no talent. and thrown to the sidelines because the reserve course were never treated as a priority, like they’re not even allowed to step foot on the main course grounds?? GOD I love the main course reserve course argument so much, the system is just a really interesting thing to talk about, and how it contributed to the tragedy
“Ultimate ‘something’, better than nothing, that’s what I wanted the whole time.” - correlates to “*What did I have at the start? Would knowing break me into parts*?” even in the simulation and his lack of memory, his idea of being an ultimate still remains and that’s so ☹️
“Finally grasped it, not like it lasted. Though I adapted, I wasn’t granted any sense of humanity, forever stuck on the loading screen.” - loving the video game analogies in here, and the loading screen was perhaps due to the scientists creating him without any sense of humanity or emotion, which is basically a permanent loading screen on the perfect yet imperfect izuru kamukura
“So talentless, so talented, so tampered with, disinterested, yes.” - i LOVE how this single line can just explain his whole character before and after being turned into izuru. from being talentless, he becomes a person who had been tampered with as a test subject, and the disinterested line is a side effect of Izuru being on a permanent loading screen, so he’s always bored all the time
“Call me a ‘failure’, a freak of nature” - the failure part most likely refers to the irony of how a being created for hope gets swayed to the side of despair and is one of the main reasons the Tragedy occurred despite the staff at Hope’s Peak creating Izuru for that very reason to avoid it from ever happening in the first place;
and for the latter part, it’s interesting how izuru was created as a sort of holy being to spread hope, and yet he is seen as a freak of nature instead, a dues ex machina that shouldn’t exist
“This final trial will *end in my favour*” - i actually got chills, the buildup all the way up to this point was amazing how it goes from him scrambling to solve the trials, and doubting himself bc of his lack of talent, to the confidence and absolute finality in which he says this. it’s clear that it’s Izuru speaking, the perfect being with talent and has no reason to doubt, knowing perfectly well that everything will end in his favour, including the class trial, and it’s quite chilling as well. the emphasis on “end in my favour” IS SO PLEASING AS WELL
“Every single withered despair no hope left to share because it’s me or you, the painful truth.” - withered despair is referring to the remnants of despair withering away in the simulation, or perhaps the despair their deaths had brought directly from the killing game?
no hope left to share just reminds me of how Hajime didn’t fight for neither hope nor despair, just for a brighter future instead, and I really think that’s beautiful
“Talentless? Is that the lesson, then? It’s all skewed.” - after going through so much, this seems to be the conclusion they face, and it’s really intriguing how you mention it as a lesson like it’s so cool. something so insignificant in the beginning turned out to be the game changer in the final trial
“Well even though I’m talentless, I found within the strength to win.” - a happy ending 🤭 love how despite all odds, it ended up being him to lead his classmates to victory against the ultimate despair, despite being a talentless himself. maybe the real lesson were the friends we made along the way /j but the lesson line makes more sense now, how he doesn’t have to wish for any sort of talent because he managed to achieve victory despite it all

You did so well with the analysis - the one thing you didn't catch in the lines you analysed, though, was that the lines 'thickened scent of distrust poisons the air' and 'deranged and derailed and too tortured too prolong' were both references to the state of the island, the funhouse trials, and Nagito's death. "Poison air/Deranged/Tortured" all refer to the final moments of Komaeda's life and how they relate to setting the final atmosphere. ~ Everything else is spot on; you have a total knack for analysis. I can't even imagine how long this took you, and it's such a joy to get as a creator. Thank you SO much - this will be out on Apple/Spotify eventually, but only once the album is completed (SDR2 album).

I absolutely LOVE this song. I've been playing it on repeat since I found it. Your voice is absolutely perfect for a song like this. The musical composition is excellent and the editing especially is really great. This song does a great job of selling Hajime's emotions and telling a story. The little details like the "What??!?!" when the difficulty switches to 'mean' and other things like that just solidify it as something wonderful. And the "This trial will end in **my favor**" gave me *chills*! Thank you for all the hard work in making this!
