9:59 My Verdict on the KOMPAK
Excellent review. I am a big fan of detailed well thought out reviews of products instead of just the short impressions stuff I usually see.
Glad you enjoyed the review! I try and balance the roundups and first impressions with detailed reviews to provide a full gamut of resources to viewers like you. Cheers!
Awesome review Ron, very nice bag, and the B-roll was amazing! đ€đ
Thanks Ian you da man! Glad you enjoyed this one
I feel like this bag would be stellar as a tech bag or such to hold other things and be stowed within another bag for traveling. In my opinion on the body it just doesn't seem quite optimized for that type of carry. Love the review, the camera work is always fire, can't wait to see what's next!
Appreciate you Michael! Yea the KOMPAK falls into an interesting area of use. If I were to get a bag for stowing in a bigger bag, might choose a different option, but it's cool that this bag is appropriate for use both as a sling and a tech kit within a larger carryall. Thanks for watching bro!
Glad to see your channel grow so much and your videos just getting much better! From 1k to 3K and now at 20k! Hope your channel grow more!
Thanks a bunch Daniel! Itâs been a wild ride but excited for whats to come đ€đŒ
I will say, as a larger guy with a broad chest, I find the bag sits super comfortably just alongside my hip, and the strap contours pretty well for me after breaking it in a bit. Will agree that the clamshell access can be a bit awkward at times for getting things in and out especially while fully packed. I love mine, I wish it worked as well for you as it does for me.
Thatâs awesome that itâs worked out for you, and especially the fact that it fits and sits well on you as you move about. Donât worry about me Iâll find my bag đ
I can definitely understand how the clam shell doesn't work for a lot of people, but as one of the few who actually use an iPad mini still, it feels like this is right up my alley. Thank you for this video!
Love the work per usual!
Glad it works for you man! Cheers and thanks for watching đđŒ
I just filmed a video earlier and I'm halfway through editing so I decided to take a break and come over and check out your new video... Now I wanna trash my video because this is so next level man! That smooth transition into that nasty B-Roll Edit, smoothly transitioning into the top down portion.. SO GOOD!
Ah don't ever trash your videos man, it's all iteration and practice. Keep at it and you'll get there bro! I challenge you to do it better than me đđŒđđŒ
Great review! I think it's a bit weird this is marketed as a sling, I can't think of the term but this is definitely an existing bag style. I think they went with 'sling' because it's the cool thing, where as the format it actually is was most popular probably in the 00s and early 10s.
Yea the term sling carries a certain clout to it haha. Iâd call this a compact crossbody messenger bag - not as sexy and you nailed the era this was popular in haha.
Great vid Ron đ„ I still want to see that backpack load out man!
Thank you Ethan!! Iâm working on it haha đ
Great review! Love the low key shade you throw at Everyday Minimalist. Stay hydrated! đ
LOl it's all love đđ his lips be hella chapped sometimes tho
@@RonKwok Itâs hella dry in Utah! Gotta hydrate even the lips. đ
I have this bag as well. 3 main gripes I had were the clasps were kind of a pain to put on and off. 2nd, the exterior gets dusty fast. 3rd, it's actually heavy for a sling bag. But the pros, I really really love the look of it.
I had a lint roller on me the entire time I was filming bc it kept catching dust lol. I had the same impression as you with the aesthetics - it looks DOPE but once I incorporated it into my loadout I had mixed feelings
@@RonKwok Yeah that thing is a dust collector!! :D
Awesome review I have a sling style bag I use for hunting and I love the idea that I can swing it around for easy access but for long hikes out to where spot it's just not comfortable it tends to fall to my side I think I will be sticking to two straps
Thanks man glad you enjoyed it. Single strap slings aren't for everyone and sometimes I find myself choosing backpacks for comfort and added capacity. Just depends on the use case. Cheers!
@@RonKwok I totally agree. I feel for shorter trips like airports and stuff they are great but long hikes not so much
This looks slick and agree with your thoughts. I wonder if this design would work better as a backpack design instead.
It even looks like a mini backpack doesnât it? Black Emberâs backpacks do actually incorporate these features but dialed up to 11 đđŒ
Dope review with amazing visuals
Thanks man!! đđŒđđŒ
dope review mate.. I actually wanted to buy this until i saw it was clamshell opening. if it was top loader style , bang ! take my splash! can't wait to see the new set-up .. pz
The clamshell is definitely an interesting choice! I get the benefits of it being able to lay flat during packing and while working, but itâs offset by risk of gear falling out while wearing the sling
Great review đŻ
Thanks as always Drew đđŒ
Less words more product screentime makes it more interesting
I supported on kickstarter and was excited to get. When I got I was disappointed. I found it to too hard and difficult to maneuver. I think its got too much going on. Zipper pulls are overboard. Clamshell was not practical. Straps way too long. I could go on and on but in a nutshell I canât recall disliking a bag so quickly after receiving. Best bag for my iPad mini is Aer daysling. So comfortable and perfect.
Dang sorry about your experience bud. I get where youâre coming from, the straps were long for me too. Itâs a well put together bag on its own, just wouldnât be my first choice đ€Ł
Pretty cool stuff! I wonder what your thoughts are on Alpaka and their sling bags. Their modular sling bang looks interesting
Glad you like the breakdown! Iâve had a few ALPAKA bags, havenât touched on their slings too much tho. Modularity is always great when well-implemented. Cheers man!
As a petite short female (155cm) the straps were too long for me, adjusted it to the max shortest length it can go (due to the pads sewn at the part of the strap so unable to adjust it even shorter) but the bag still sits below my hips & makes it looks weirdly awkward and uncomfortable for me. I look just like a kid wearing her dadâs bag. I guess this bag was only made for really tall people. đ
I feel you on this! Iâm 175cm and it was too long for my taste too. A revised strap would go a long way with this one!
Really useful to know, I'm only 5'3 and this just might be a deal breaker for me
I am 5â2â female and I bought this bag and replaced the strap with a leather strap. Very stylish. I put my iPad mini in the clamshell compartment. My active use items (wallet and iPhone) in the front and back. When I get to my destination, open my clamshell. I love this bag since itâs light and small. I donât wear slings comfortably since I live in Alaska and wear coats 9 months out of the year. Slings require constant adjustments.
Hey Ron thanks for this video! I was wondering if you think the TKS is comfortable?? I've heard people love it but the strap digs into them at some point. Do you experience this or maybe wear heavy cloths and wouldn't feel it? I'm asking because Im looking to either buy this KOMPAK (which seems to have a "better" strap or more comfortable one) or the TKS which doesn't seem padded. I usually wear T-shirts because it's always hot out so having a comfortable strap would be nice. Thank you!
Thanks for the comment! Personally I feel the TKS is plenty comfortable for what I put in there - I donât overstuff it so it never gets too heavy, and Iâm mostly rocking tees and hoodies so not too heavy clothing either. If worse comes to worst, you can get a strap pad to accessorize the TKS, as Iâd much rather prioritize the bag silhouette and what it does for me rather than by an entire sling for just the strap, but thatâs just me. Hope this helps!
What was the sling bag you showed for reference at 6:44? That oneâs nice!
Thatâs the TKS Sling also from Black Ember!
I bought this solely because of my Ipad min 6 đ. I agree with you on the strap, i had to replace that strap, its just terrible.
Hey, can I ask what strap you used to replace the stock one cuz I've wanted to replace it but haven't found anything basically.
It almost feels like they put the wrong strap on there đŹ
Check out DSPTCH utility straps!
@@dienowacp i swapped with my Alpaka modular sling. I think they sell it separately on their site as well

Good reviewâŠhonest comments, much appreciated amongst others just schilling whatever they are reviewing
I appreciate that man! Gotta keep it real âđŒ
I would use that trash for a get home bag. Mainly because you can leave it on your hip as you navigate and walk. Mind you, the word trash is a good thing in this situation. However, it does give me vibes of a female's purse and I'm not sure if I would be able to carry that on the daily.
I appreciate your input X! I donât even know if this would function as an adequate get home bag given its 5L volume. I typically prefer a more streamlined sling silhouette so a crossbody wouldnât be my first choice đđŒ
Which brand sling bag did you carry on this video???
The other sling is the Black Ember TKS Sling!
Thank you Ron
Itâs perfect for someone who doesnât like thing over the chest , specially in a hot tropical weather . Someone like me lol đ
Perfect! I'm glad it might work for you man
Where did you get your hoddy?

@@RonKwok thank you. Going to steal your styles. Having said that, a vid on minimalist clothing would be cool if you haven't yet. Cheers.
LOOL by all means đđŒ and thatâs a good idea, Iâll keep it in mind man!
best review of this bag I have seen (or can imagine seeing). given your caveats in the 2nd half, many of which I share, what "minimal, streamline" cross-body bag would you recommend? (NB: I'm a big fan of the magnetic closure... might even have a slight velcro phobia). thanks for your work!
Thanks and glad you found this useful!! I can wholeheartedly recommend any sling from the Aer product line, I have a soft spot for the Go Sling 2, but it's really small and would depend entirely on your needs. If you wanna stick to Black Ember, their TKS Sling is awesome. Great size, streamlined, and you can stow the straps to make it a proper tech pouch in a larger kit. Happy hunting!
groovy, much obliged!
Yeah I don't really like slings except for the larger sling packs like the errant sling. The small ones, just put that stuff in your pockets. Front carry is particularly offputting to me. The classic messenger silhouette is fine, as its a dressed down suitcase, and has a way to be cinched so it works on bikes. This is a little to small, looks like a purse.
Fair points all around my guy, thanks for sharing!
