The greatest gift my workaholic parents taught us 5 children was good work ethics for what we got.
I passed these work ethics on to our 2 children and our 2 grandsons.
I told them “ if anyone tells you life isn’t about working hard they’re lying to you.”
Before play time the kids all helped work in the flowerbeds with me and our daughter ( 10 at the time helped build above ground pools w her daddy during Oklahoma summer time🥵).
Now at 42 she owns her own beauty shop that she is buying from her mentor , the previous owner.
Besides the fact the Bible says hard work is a “ gift from God.” 10:29

My advice about kids as they get to be adults, is lead by example. Work hard, show them a budget, 401K savings, etc. My son is 23 and my little bird is off and doing well. Works full-time engineering job and two part-time jobs. We did that at that age too, he wants NO debt. Something I was never taught. He always had work ethic. He was mowing lawns at 16. Worked many part-time jobs to buy cars etc. He wants to work. We are blessed.

It's smart to buy a house you can afford on only one income. That's what my husband and I did. We anticipated that I would want to stay home with children once we had them (and we were right). This strategy also allows a couple to weather a situation where there is only one income for whatever reason in the future.

Followed his plan since 2007. Am completely debt free with 200k in savings. But ... own no home and minimal retirement. Didn't buy a home because he said pay cash or no more than 25% of net income on a 15 year note. So, I figured I'd just save for 10 years and pay cash. Now on year 16 and savings are just 30% of typical modest house values here in the west. Should've bought because my rent over 16 years is much much more than what I would have paid in interest. Plus then there's the equity. Could've sold now and paid cheap to retire in West Virginia and have a ton of savings. But no ... I followed the Ramsey plan.

I keep hearing that K-12 doesn't teach financial literacy, but disagree. In Preschool and kindergarten they make sure you know all your numbers, and in first grade they start into simple arithmetic -- addition and subtraction. So, by second grade an average student has the fundamentals mastered. From there you advance into bigger numbers and learn to carry. Word problems are designed to to teach critical thinking. They should be written something like this:
Mom gave Suzy two cookies for chores. Then Grandma gave her four just because! How many cookies does she have?
Suzy had six cookies, then her mean brothers Todd and Alex each grabbed two cookies and licked them. Now how many cookies is she shielding with her whole body?
At some point all Suzy has to do, in her mind, is exchange Mom and Grandma for employers, cookies for dollars, and GMAC and MC for Todd and Alex. Then realize that dollars aren't cookies, but you can only buy cookies and pay the rent with the dollars left over.

Look forward to the financial calls but there’s too many career and life stories coming through lately. Don’t these cohost have their own shows to direct these calls to? Still a newer listener. Maybe this is how it’s always been but all the cohosts getting their own shows should cut these calls out of the Ramsey show

But listen to what Dave says in the intro nowadays. He says "do work that they love, and create amazing relationships" as what they help people with.

You can get waivers for literally everything in the military. You should fight harder to get the waiver.

That poor lady wanted to be in the USAF and they rejected her but they'll commission all sorts of officers with gender dysphoria. Very sad. Then again why would you want to serve in the military these days?

Sounds like you live in an expensive area. You might see if you can keep your job but transfer to a cheaper area. That's what I did; same pay, but in an area with half the cost of living. I was able to afford a house, and should be able to pay it off early, and it's already grown quite a bit in equity. There's no shame in moving away from your expensive hometown and coming back later when it's something you can afford.

Have you followed the part about increasing your income and career? I saved up cash and bought a house with it - it definitely didn’t take me 10 yrs and have only 200k in savings

Renting temporarily also avoids property taxes, maintenance and repairs, so don't just look at the monthly rent.

Love this idea think I will save for a house for 15 years since I live in a mobile home and don't have rent. I just need to increase my income to have more in savings.

I just with Mr. Dave Ramsey would have the professionalism to at least explain to people what happened to I simply a few you could’ve said a few words on behalf of Christina alice about her departure instead, he says absolutely nothing nothing nothing nothing there in my opinion is totally unprofessional. Oh well life goes on if you wanna have a great day.
