    Man back in the 80s I built like 20 choppers, I always started with a scrap bike, from a bike shop. most came from Shepherd, TX. there was a great bike shop there. and they come with a vin.

    Also, amen on finding and pushing your personal limits. Kids, achieving and creating something you didn’t think you could will give you a stronger dopamine hit than any amount of thumbs ups or likes or friend requests you’ll ever get on some kind of internet popularity contest thingy. Go do stuff and you won’t be so mopey, you can be happy and proud like this guy.

      Yeah, that was suprising. Still don't know how that happened

    I'm almost done making my own first bike from scratch. Luckily I already owned the donor. I kept the head tube and the engine and everything else is hand built by me. It sounds like, in the eyes of my DMV, it'll still be the same bike, just "heavily modified."

      That's the smart way to go - i think. It is certainly what i will do next time. Good luck on the build!!

      The DMV doesn't care what it looks like. as long as all the numbers on it match with the information they have on their records.

    Nice, I'm currently in a welding program too, working on them overhead joints with 6010 rods, every night I get a whole new collection of holes in my clothes and burns in places I didn't imagine sparks could get 😂

      I hear ya👍. I've got multiple scares on my left hand from metal falling INTO my glove while doing overhead. I need to find a better way to position myself 😀

    45 plus years of being in auto and truck repair, storage trailers full of parts "too good to scrap" I could build a couple bikes, pickups, heavy trucks, and never buy anything but maybe a few bucks for hardware. Not sure how I'd go about providing receipts for parts I saved when I scrapped something 30 years ago

    The DMV will always make a person jump through hoops. they make the process difficult to discourage people from doing this easily. because they would be swamped with people wanting paperwork for assembled vehicles.

    Usually a lost title can easily be replaced by a local title office for the legal owner of the bike. So if they’re telling you they can’t get a title to sell you the bike legit, there’s a good chance something fishy is going on.

      That's the sense I get. There are tons of classified ads for such bikes. I also noticed, while waiting at the DMV, that there were a lot of people getting bonded titles. I was also told by an auto theft cop that if you have a vehicle with a bonded title, the original owner can still make a claim and you can lose the vehicle. Which is not a situation I want to be in after fixing a bike up ☹

  • @dallasgraves4981

    I buy most lost titled bikes. Cost me about 30$ to 500$ to title.

    • @HooptieDoodle
      @HooptieDoodle  Před rokem

      I am glad it works out for you. I am just scared of those bikes after talking to the cops at the auto theft unit. They explained that even with the bonded title, the original owner can still repossess the bike. Which I really don't like because i typically put a lot of time and money into them. Maybe there are ways around this, but it's a risk i don't want to take.

      I’m building a chopper and the frame lacks a vin and title, it only has a bill of sale. Is it possible get this registered?

    • @HooptieDoodle
      @HooptieDoodle  Před rokem

      @@TurdFerguson884 call your DMV. I can only speculate based on my experience. Things will go differently in different states, etc.

  • @Brou15O

    So basically, buy a titled bike that may or may not run. register it, then do whatever the hell you want with it to avoid beaurocracy xD
