Thai business tycoon Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip purchased the Miss Universe organization which has franchising rights to Miss USA and Miss Teen USA, for 20 million dollars. Here's what we know so far about the 2022 Miss Universe competition.

During the IMG era, the host country/city for the following year's pageant is always announced very late and this is not good for the contestants and their national directors. I hope that this will change with the new owner and they can secure host countries/cities earlier. Apparently, the 2023 edition already has a strongly rumored host country (South Korea). I like that the owner herself is invested in pageantry and that's something I didn't see with the previous owner. I hope that they keep the standards in choosing the winner the way IMG left it.

MU 2020 was organized by Telemundo so I wasn't suprised they did everything to pave the way for a Latina winner. Hence, Andrea Meza will forever be Miss Telemundo.

@@lukes.3488 Miss Universe has always been bias. From 1952 - 1991, the organization had a strong preference to European contestants. In the late 70s, it started to evolve and more Latina contestants started to make the cut. During the Trump Era it was strictly Latina and Europeans with a sprinkle of Asian and black in the mix. During IMG, Asian contestants started to make the cut more often and some black contestants. Regardless how anyone tries to put a spin on things, whomever is the owner will have a bias towards a specific race of contestants. One thing that is certain is that black contestants are never the preference.

The winners are already pre-selected before finals night, hence deserving and stand out contestants not making the cut and awkward placement of the top 5. Nawat, the owner, has also admitted that he is the sole judge in many interviews. I wonder if you follow MGI religously or is just gonna be reacting with the finals competition? It's because MGI has had an eventful of controversies from Nawat body shaming Miss Vietnam, alleged replacement of the voting winner Russia to Mauritius, one-sidedly dismissing Miss Mauritius, crushing MU logo and replacing it with MGI on finals night and even posting the video on their social media, with former MGI queen Lee Garcia publicly saying she doesn't want to be associated with it and deactivating her account. MGI is not being true to their advocacy of stopping war. Don't even get me started on the issues leading on finals night like them pairing Miss Russia and Miss Ukraine as roommates and other pairing configurations that were questionable, alleged food poisoning of Miss Singapore, alleged sexual harrassment of other candidates without security personnel available, etc. Miss Universe Leila Lopes has called it a circus show. And I am not suprised why it lost so many IG followers from a high of 6.8M to 4.2M.

Dani, I’m thrilled that Miss Universe has a new owner. I’ve watched other pageants in the last few years thrive, grow, and surpass Miss Universe in production quality, innovation and style, notably Miss Supranational and Miss Grand International. One thing I’m hoping for is the change in the host. Steve Harvey is often so disrespectful to the contestants as he makes every attempt to refer to himself and mug for the camera. Please let that be over. I’m looking forward to what may come.
My questions though, as I’ve seen nothing about these issues are:
Will MUO leave NYC and will Paula Shugardt be gone?
And more importantly, does the new owner of MUO now also own Miss USA? If MU needs a makeover, MUSA needs a makeover, blood transfusions, cosmetic surgery and several organ transplants. Talk about missed opportunities. MUSA has not only become stagnant, it is blind. The MUSA website is awful. Promotion is pitiful. Innovation and creativity are absent. The Final 5 chat session is more like Miss America 2000. The selection committees are composed of people most viewers don’t know. The site selection and production quality is 3rd class.
I’ve watched pageants for 50 years.
Things really can’t get much worse.

I’m Thai & I can tell U that the questions U asked are yes, they still keep everything the same. Headquarter is still in New York & Paula is still working with MU. Also, the new Thai owner will take care of Miss USA & Miss teen USA. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
