    I’d love to see some vlogs with these two. Seeing how they train, daily life, competition weekends, road trips. That’d be awesome. 🙂

      I have actually been considering it! I had hoped to try it out this year at some of my favorite events, but of course, with the pandemic, those were canceled.

    I’m another person interested in Spitfire’s legacy. As a dog owner of more than 55 years, I sense what has probably been going on. ..The natural progression…. Would you mind letting us know how things are now? It really does matter to the thousands of people that enjoyed your pup. What a special dog (and owner).

    The pool is too short. Spitfire could do another two feet if the pool was longer so he does not have to worry about slamming into the far side of the pool.

    How well whippet generally does in the speed retrieving ? They seems not ideally built for swimming , do they compensate by "going for it " ?

    • @spitfirethewhippet8636
      @spitfirethewhippet8636  Před 4 lety +8

      I think a large part of it has to do with how far the dog jumps and how well the dog transitions into the water. For example, Spitfire never stops moving during speed retrieve. The way he slides into the pool after jumping is perfect form as he doesn’t sacrifice valuable time, and he doesn’t slow down very quickly. It does help that he is a strong swimmer for the final strokes. However, I have seen whippets jump just or nearly as far but they don’t know how to swim well, so their rear will sink and they lose the transition from air to water, slowing them down greatly, and they can’t make up for lost time because they are poor swimmers. Although, I know several whippets who know how to swim better after competing more often because they learn how to swim

      @@spitfirethewhippet8636 ok , interesting . So you would say that as a breed whippet can make good swimmer ? We know that in all other aspects they are supreme competitor . Thanks for the video and replies .

    • @spitfirethewhippet8636
      @spitfirethewhippet8636  Před 4 lety +3

      @@nico40820 I'd say that whippets can be good swimmers. It may not come naturally for some (although I haven't had a problem with my whippets, they've all been good swimmers). Although whippets as a breed will never be superior to a lab or something made for swimming.

      @@spitfirethewhippet8636 This is funny as i had many retrievers setters/labs/spaniels... all were used to swim a lot in fresh and salt water, and the FIRST thing i noticed when i watched you and your dog few years ago was spitfire fearless ability at water contact, something i never saw in a whippet and extremely rarely in a non retriever race.

    For the extreme vertical jump I know for sure spitfire could easily jump high to 9ft whippet are like a dog version of a African serval cat plus I’ve seen an old interview espn video from the 80’s where the owner dog Ashley the whippet describes the highest she jumped n it was 9ft vertical so to beat your old record 8’6 first try to practice at home on a backyard using a long ladder holding his fav toy or treat to motivate him to run fast n leap high to grab it just trying to help btw I’m a huge fan of spitfire for my 2nd future pet it would have to be a whippet next a tamaskan
