    Just to update everyone, my Jeep ended up having low compression in a cylinder that was causing the problem. I only found out after replacing everything else. Hope this helps you with your Jeep!

    My daughter's 2002 WJ 4.7 had a no-start/rough idle and she pulled P3040 and P1391 with her scanner. After watching your most excellent video, she was able to change the camshaft sensor herself. Unfortunately, after installing the new one the jeep wouldn't start at all. That got us suspecting the connector/harness was bad. Sure enough, the insulation around the wires at the connector and about 1.5 inches further had deteriorated. It looked as though a valve cover leak right over the sensor harness may have been the cause...the open conduit pretty much serves as a funnel for the leak. I was able to grab a new connector from Pull-A-Part from a 2005 WK 4.7, which was an exact replacement and spliced in perfectly. I suspect that the 05-07 WK 4.7 will work if you can't find a WJ. For anyone looking at replacing the sensor, check the connector and harness first before dropping $40+ on a new sensor...that may be the cause vs a faulty sensor.

      Bruce Waldrop I'm glad it helped and definitely recommend checking the wiring before buying the sensor. Should have been obvious to me as a computer guy but was easily overlooked. Thank you for the awesome feedback!

    I replaced a crankshaft sensor on my 2002 Deville only to realize the connector was the issue. Just here to find some tips on splicing a connector in. Wasn’t disappointed....thanks man.

    Thank you for doing this DIY video. I have the same truck and I have been having a hard time getting it to start. Sometimes it starts like normal then won't start for days. I did the on/off ignition trick and it gave me a P0340 error code (camshaft position sensor). And seeing you show where it is and how to replace it made me decide to do it myself. Instead of paying for a shop to do it. Will definitely save me a couple hundred bucks. I appreciate it very much.

      papaschuette You're welcome! I hope it helps solve your issue. This helped mine but lead me to a much bigger problem. One of the cylinders had really bad compression compared to the others. It's definitely a job that is do able at home :) Good Luck!

      papaschuette I was able to just pop it off with my hand. You could use a flathead screwdriver, but be careful not to pry too hard. Otherwise it might break.

      @@ArcticVette Thanks for getting back to me so fast. I just went out and pulled the 2 pieces apart by hand. The new one won't be here till Friday so I had a little bit of time. Once again thank you for doing this video. Yours is the only one I found that showed how to actually do the repair on my particular truck. Have a great day.

    You are my HERO. Every other video I watched had me going somewhere different. First I started inside the jeep trying to fi d the sensor thru a hole in the floor board then searching for it on the right side of the oil filter and then I found d you. Makes a difference if it's a 4.0 or 4.7. Thank you Thank you Thank you!

    that's what I'm wondering what's going on with mine just noticed the code popped up today so gonna get mine looked at and I parked it because I don't wanna cause more damage to the engine so gonna have My mechanic look at it when he changes the oil I wonder if its dirty too cuz I noticed some oil over by oil cap from previous oil changes. Will see what happens mines not dieing or idling funny just takes a second to start but better safe than sorry don't wanna blow the engine or cause any damage so glad I have a second vehicle to drive while I wait.....

    Great video - thanks! I replaced my Camshaft Sensor about 3 years ago but it looks like it’s wet all around it now? Can they leak oil? Maybe it’s coming from valve cover, it’s hard to see.

    • @ArcticVette
      @ArcticVette  Před 2 lety

      I do believe that it can leak oil from the sensor. I could be wrong. It is a pretty tight spot but maybe a phone camera can come in handy to diagnose it.

    Truth, dropped the block grounds of course it's the valve cover side most difficult to remove. I read .800 ohm ! through a wire from the black connector #4 to the grounds and was getting 1.2k ohm through conductor!!!! the bleeding sensor is but 5v volt. Not exactly robust to begin with. Throw in some neglected valve cover gasket and immediate 1391. The MOPAR PCM in My 2001 GC is extremely robust and laughs at anything short of a melted 12V wire. I've had injector wires welded to the valve covers! Did it bother the PCM? nada! It idled better! What's up now dogg??!!! But for real though this sensor and the Crank sensor which is thank fully shielded away from the valve cover drips is immune. if you're losing even a millivolt to ground you're losing horse power. I only replaced the hard sections using mopar factory wiring from an accessory install same gauge and sheathing. To further isolate my signal I'm layering up some aluminized tape to shield any potential for interference then new wire loom then rubber tape. Didn't even need the mega dollar bi-directional scanner tool. I needed to get off my rear and get out the prints; I was trained in the navy so I can find grounds in my sleep. This once I got motivated to drive my fresh motor jeep, with the ho cams, took 20mins. thanks!

    • @ArcticVette
      @ArcticVette  Před rokem +3

      Yes, it could be a lot of things inside the motor. From my experience it was a spun bearing that caused that in my motor. However it could be bad rings too.
      It's something worth finding out before it gets worse. I ended up rebuilding my motor that I spun a bearing in.
