I think 505kg is unattainable for Makarov. This attempt is worse than all his previous attempts. Previously he could at least get the bar to his knees, now he barely lifts the bar off the ground for a split second. Either his strength has plateaued or he needs to change his training approach moving forward.

Actually I think, he gets it next attempt. It was probably some ham issues I heard, it's a good decision not pushing through it. He will attempt this again in December, I think he gets it

Not a fan of this whole 505 business. It’s the World Deadlift Championships, not the “Please, someone, I’m begging you, break Thor’s record so we never have to talk about him again!”-championships.
Evan Singleton matching his personal best at 1000lbs is way more interesting and cathartic than watching Makarov fail the half ton for the umpteenth time. Now I do understand, this isn’t the ASC and the people in attendance most definitely are not interested in watching a 3 hour long rising bar deadlifting contest, but surely, a couple more conservative weight jumps wouldn’t add that much time. A 480 would be cool to see. Heck a 490! Give 490 some love! Everyone trains at below 470 and jumps straight towards the 500. Aside from Peyman’s and Ivan’s sketchily locked out attempts in Russia last year, I’ve never seen someone step up to a bar loaded with 480kg before.

Hafthor didn't only make it easy, he also locked it out. Almost none of the 1000lb and 1000lb+ deadlifts at the championships last year where locked out. This year none where locked out. I don't really give a shit as they are at least consistent with their easy reffing, but if someone is going for the record, I truly hope they train to lock out properly.
