Re the Falklands, in recent decades I can't think of any other PM (with the possible exception of Jim Callaghan) who would have gone for the military solution. It was a risky venture, for sure, but one that HAD to be taken. RIP Maggie, a true warrior and a PM with guts, unlike every PM since.

I'll, say this whatever anyone thought of PM Thatcher the way she and the Conservative party got through the bombing was quite something to behold... And I don't think it's unfair or untruthful to say, that the majority of Brits were extremely extremely proud, it must have taken immense courage and resolve to continue with the conference... Quite remarkable when a terrorist organisation has just tried to assassinate you, courage that on all honesty I don't know that I'd be able to muster.
Carrington was a disaster. First he abandoned Rhodesia, then South Africa, and when Argentina occupied the Falklands, he wanted to negotiate a "peaceful handover". That's when Thatcher finally kicked him in the butt.
Well - I think he resigned out of honour, and because there was going to be a war and people were going to get killed, it would of made his position very difficult. I am going to say though - that withdrawal of the HMS Endurance was a major factor in encouraging the Argentine invasion, and I suspect if that had not happened then the war could of been avoided. I do agree however, Carrington wasn't good as Foreign Secretary. Sadly, I think the Foreign Office isn't actually that much in favour of defending Britain's interests. He was also fanatically pro EU.

The late Peter Carrington (Lord Carrington) is sadly something we no longer see, a national politician with honour, a senior minister of the crown prepared to fall on their sword and sacrifice their political career when something under their watch goes wrong. Even if they probably hold no direct responsibility for the situation. The book stops with them as the senior minister, so they decide they must go.

After Scargill she ran out of dragons to slay. She had established her credentials against Galtieri and Scargill. Her desperate need to have more, following 1985,led to her choosing the wrong dragons … Europe, Poll Tax… these led to her political demise.
Scargill called the strike when the Power Stations were full of coal because of that Thatcher won and the fascist police of course. After the Falkland War Thatcher could not resist a War or Confrontation and would force or invent one because she thought she was invincible which of course she wasn’t.

Unions are terrible for profit, as are things such as paid holiday, minimum wage and pension contributions. Right now, in April 2022. We NEED policies like these to return, to allow corporations to grow and to lessen the tax burden on those who create wealth and make others pay more and be fairer to all. Our country is a mess as people expect the state to get them out of trouble, no ...They need to WORK themselves out of trouble. Strip back the welfare state, ban food banks and give people the tools or the necessary 'persuasion' to work themselves out of their personal 'crises'.

In 1983 she was effectively unopposed - the Labour Party was in a mess and our electoral system makes it pretty much impossible for a third party to pick up enough seats to be a threat. The situation in 87 was only marginally less favourable; Labour were sorting themselves out but were no where close to convincing the voters of that. Almost any Tory leader would have won those elections, certainly those who were viable candidates for the leadership in 1975 would have done so (I'll accept that the likes of IDS and Truss would probably have found a way to lose).
