    The game throws a lot of information at you when you first play and the focus mode tip prompt specifically states "Inflict more damage by aiming for wounds in Focus Mode". Looking back it may have just been suggesting you use focus for the ability to aim specifically at the wounds vs. needing to be in focus aiming for the wounds but with the limited time I had that was glanced right over.
    There's a Power Descending Thrust that I couldn't get to work either but that's likely the wyvern dive. Quite a lot of moves are now either button holds or delayed releases and it threw me off for sure. Like I said, it was basically in line with re-learning the weapon.

      I have a feeling that we will be getting the switch skill system, probably unlocked later, to allow us to adjust the movesets. Based on what you were saying about moveset differences and moves missing, I have a feeling it will return in some capacity.

      Apparently there is 2 types of clashes, 1 initiated by guarding certain attacks at the right time and the other by using certain attacks as you’re getting attacked… I’m guessing the glaive only has second option.
      I’m hoping it’s just that you don’t automatically vault and have to input it maybe 🤔

      I didn't even get a chance to test clashes. Outside of the story and overview stuff we had roughly an hour of just "playing" and for whatever reason we weren't allowed to do it a second time so there's so much shit I'm not clear on yet and wanted to test.

      Looking at the controls for switchaxe looks like the zero sum discharge is hold down circle and triangle rather than just pressing it

    You dont need Focus Mode to create Weakpoints, that is already confirmed in the Focus Mode Trailer. The only thing you can not do out of Focus Mode is exploding the wounds with the Focus Strike (as mentioned in other comments you can still explode the wounds with enough damage from normal attacks, which is nice, since then Focus Strike is not the only option to destroy the wounds). You can even slightly see the wounds created out of Focusmode, the Focusmode is just highlighting it in red. And you dont need the Focus Mode to get the extra Damage on the weakended spots.

      And for the wound "finisher", you don't even need to be in focus mode in a sense, since you can just basically press the focus mode button and attack button at the same time like doing any combo.

      @@Znetsixe This is what I've been saying too. Focus Mode might look like a stance you have to "go into", but really you're just tapping an extra button and immediately using your Focus Strike. With that in mind, and the fact that wounds happen no matter what, Focus Mode is really nowhere near as interruptive as Clutch Claw/tenderising.

      @@RoaringTide And it produces a fun way for people to feel like you've grown in understanding of the monster and general ability. For new monsters and players, focus mode will help you reliably hit the wounds. But as you become more familiar, and can notice and target the wounds without it, it becomes less necessary to be in it for any more time than necessary to get your Strike off. And in turn you can take more advantage of your weapon's mobility and whatever parts of its moveset aren't available in Focus Mode.

      Exactly. I ll go into focus mode to aim when the monster is down and to do the weakspot finishers. I think it will depend on the weapon who. For IG it makes sense to be more in focus mode because of the kinsetc. I can also see GS benefitting greatly from it to aim those TCS better. Overall it looks to me like a pretty fluid implementation and i can see myself getting used to it and integrating it into my playstyle pretty quickly

    The dive attack is definitely shown in the weapon showcase for IG, but no Aerial combo is such a let down. Nothing better than vaulting to a flying Rathalos and combo him until he falls down while other weapons have to content with flash bugs.

      @@voltaicburst4279 May be copium, but I would be very surprised if they removed the most iconic thing about the weapon outright. We haven't yet seen if there are ways to modify the movesets as per silkbinds in Rise. Holding out hope that aerial glaive will be something you can unlock.

    From what I remember from the Ruri stream with Jonno. I'm sure Jonno said you don't HAVE to be in focus mode to create the wounds, they will happen just by hitting the same spot multiple times. You NEED to enter focus mode and press R1 to trigger the big move on the wound

    I really hope IG can still fly around instead of just getting one attack after a vault and that being it, removing aerial IG is very very close to making me not want to use it much in wilds

      from what i saw in at 1:41 it seems that it is focusing heavily on aerial combat. he does the leaping slash then it goes into 2 new moves being strong descending slash and then rising spiral slash. when he is in the air after rising spiral slash he can do all of his aerial moves if you look in the top right. it looks so good. for the aerial helicopter it was probably some input that he might of missed based on the time he had or he wiffed the final hit of that attack. in world if you wiff it you just go to the ground. that's what i hope at least.

    IG being able to grab all 3 extracts with one charged kinsect hit is absolutely crazy. We are gonna be in triple buff all the time

      13:51 I think you might have to line up the charge attack for a multi-hit with the kinsect. The indicator shows the kinsect getting the extracts at different times. Not sure if it has to hit the different extract zones to get all three.

    You dont need to be in focus mode. The only benefit is aiming, seeing red weakpoints, and having access to the wound finisher. You can make eounds just fine without focus mode

    ZSD is sill in as normal it's just that you now have to HOLD triangle+circle to latch-on and do it because there are now reasons why you want to only get an Element Discharge so you can combo it into a Full Release Slash.

      I'm so happy that ZSD isn't automatic now. Amped Mode basically deleted Elemental Discharge from your moveset, and it always boggled me why Charge Blade could choose which Discharge it wanted but SA don't.

    This past month I decided to pick World back up to learn IG and fell in love with it. Hearing they gutted the aerial combos is real concerning. I can only imagine how IG mains feel.

      ​@@gamingdragonofmordor3770If we get the ground infinite combo from before World back we'll be eating good. As cool as I thought World IG was I have to admit it was better in previous games. The infinite combo got replaced with a short weak one, where the strongest attack had a huge forward displacement that caused you to miss the big hit a lot of the time.
      The added arieal stuff was cool, but for the most part it was superfluous, high risk low reward, and very situational. IMO it didn't make up for everything it lost on the ground game.
      Seeing that the kinsect is being incorporated more into the attacks and not just a buff grabber is a very good direction I think.

      The infinite ground combo is still present in world tho?
      The tornado slash (I think that’s what they called it?) does require some positioning tho, so I usually do the back flip to make some space before doing it.

      World IG mains might feel a little bad about the changes, but as a Rise IG main, I'm feeling pretty devastated right now.
      Rise not only gave IG more air mobility, but massively buffed its aerial damage too. It was buffed so hard, it even became meta for raw damage in Sunbreak. Going from a super fun and viable aerial playstyle to literally not even being able to bounce feels like such a downgrade, I struggle to describe it with words.

    Thanks very much for the IG gameplay; it was my main weapon in World so nice to see what it can do here. The added Kinsect functionality looks like a huge bonus to gameplay and quality-of-life as far as getting extracts goes. I'm a bit bummed about the removal of long aerial combos (being able to keep up the pressure on flying monsters in the air was always awesome), but maybe the trade-off was that it's now much easier to use Kinsect synergy attacks/gathering, and that was the style they wanted to push for? Cheers!

    Sunbreaks Kinsect Slash would've been the perfect aerial focus option for IG. But instead revaulting just gets removed....[edit] saw one Japanese stream that did an aerial focus move that looked sorta like KS, pinpoint hit and bounce back up. [Edit2] might just be a mount and he immediately kicked back off so it looked like an attack.

      At 7 minutes. It looks like it did 6 damage, other attacks were like 4-12, he also didn't have triple when he used, so maybe if you do the kinsect will help. Also didn't do any follow ups or use it again so idk what else you can do with it yet.

    Thank you very much for showcasing these 2 weapons. A few notes: I think the descending thrust is hold circle? For example at 12:24. On the top right, where they show possible next inputs.
    Also, my favorite part was noticing that ZSD scorches the grass same as lightning strikes. Check out when you killed the chatacabra. That's just sweet man.

      Yeah I tried doing it twice but I think maybe I just didn't have enough height for it? The input was showing up after I did a different aerial move but I feel like I was always landing before I could execute it

    I don’t like that fact we are normalizing 30 fps on a PS5. Personally performance on current generation consoles is really important, one thing this generation of games has taught me is I need to heavily invest in my PC build.

      ​​@@derickdelonay1835The graphics card in the PS5 is equivalent to about a RX 6700 or a RTX 2070 super. The reality is that is not a very powerful graphics card so Playstation versions of games have to be heavily optimized or use techniques to achieve the desired performance. One of these techniques is called upscaling which essentially means you are never truly getting a '4k' or '1440p' experience instead it's usually 1080p upscaled to look like 4k or 1440p. The game seems to be still far out from release so these techniques and optimization is likely not implemented yet and this is further supported by the pop in on the textures as the game struggles to load the textures in time. Despite a demo the game is still pretty unpolished performance wise. Essentially on paper the PS5 is not very capable of these grand expectations of performance and graphics which is why most games are still 30fps with an optional performance setting that makes the games look far worse.

      @@derickdelonay1835 Exactly my point. Warzone is a game that is heavily optimized in order to have the greatest experience for a grand audience. Additionally, the game is a competitive fps shooter where having higher fps grants an advantage over those with lower fps. Activision has no interest in art or revolutionary systems so instead they ensure the game is the most wildly available by making it as accessible as possible through great performance. Also wilds is a game that is filled with much going on at once on the CPU side of things. It is trying to calculate animations, small and large monster ai, map events, critter behavior, world day cycle etc... it's alot at once to be calculating which could be a CPU limitation which would heavily impact performance as well. A lot goes into fps not just straight graphical fidelity. An example of this is actually minecraft believe it or not. Minecraft (the original java version) has terrible optimization on CPU usage which causes bad performance even on the most powerful systems (that's why when you go over 16 render distance chunks the game starts to struggle and why loading new chunks causes the game to stutter even with the most powerful CPUs in the world)

    As a ps5 user, the performance and frame rate issues with Dragon's Dogma 2 have me more than a little worried about these new enormous regions in Wilds. Hopefully, it isnt a targeted 30 fps or something weird.

    The graphics are crazy, hopefully everything meshes together gameplay wise with all the new mechanics and little knick knack patty wacks, maybe other weapons will be a little easier to grasp

    How I felt the other day CB, just OVERLOADED waking up at 6am and just getting injected with all the gameplay footage from all over. Brain just exploded. Still even took much to take in how "Alive" this game is, just blown away by it all. Even small details of what you cook in the field is actually shown in the animation! Capcom going hard on this and its paying off.

    As an insect glaive main I know that aerial isn't optimal DPS but I'm noticing there's a lot of people that think that that means it was useless. There were a lot of situations to go aerial and at first glance I'm sad that the option seems to have been taken away but I'm excited to play with the options they gave us to compensate, and with the talk of weapon skills maybe there's certain types of IGs or something to that effect that lets you air combo

      This one change might prevent me from buying the game whatsoever. What a fucking dogshit decision by them. What a wild way to ruin hype for a game that looked awesome

      It's sad that we went from the game that made Aerial a viable and powerful option (Rise/Sunbreak), to the next game which seemingly ditches that. Of course, this is just a first impression and maybe we'll get some other stuff to compensate but as far as first impressions go, this ain't it (at least for Insect Glaive).

    I played the game yesterday at the Gamescom for 30 minutes and can confirm that you don’t need to use the focus mode to break parts of the monster. Although it is really effective because you really get a lot of critical damage while aiming on the wounds with the focus mode. I really enjoyed the new mechanic and it is a very good new addition to evolve the tenderizing system from world. I think that a lot of people are going to enjoy it! 👍🏽

      Try bow, harder to master but you get (range and close, dps and uptime, near invincible mobility) on good builds, you’ll never look back once you master it especially perfecting the aiming 😅

      I don’t understand. It’s like ZSD and SAED spam. It’s the most fun at first, but then quickly loses its fun factor.
      Ground game and consistent combos/mix ups were always fun for longer than gimmicky gameplay

      My guess as for why theyre doing this is so that the vault can be used more for dodging attacks, since the insect glaive cant be in the air for 80% of the time they can afford to make vertical hitboxes smaller

    So the one thing im seeing no one talk about is insect glaive already had "focus mode" (a reticle) in previous games, in fact it was the only melee weapon to have this really, and it was fairly uninvolved and felt tacked on because you needed a way to control the kinsect. That kinsect was also quite uninvolved, with only Sunbreak actually adding skills where the kinsect would actually attack with you (assist kinsects, kinsect aerial slash, powder vortex, awakened kinsect attack (also a GU art tbh), etc) while usually unlike the secondary mechanics of say a charge blade or a switch axe or a gunlance where they mesh with the moveset, the kinsect would just bug off and attack very slowly on it's own, making powder clouds that were usually minimally helpful only (they weren't *bad*, but powder vortex really showed how good they could be), or you could control it and it would attack and again the damage wasn't bad but you had to sit there and do nothing.
    For a weapon named the insect glaive, it didn't feel like the kinsect was working seamlessly with the weapon. You had a kinsect part of the gameplay, and a glaive part of the gameplay.
    Wilds is exciting for me because focus mode should be the most revolutionary for the insect glaive considering we had a reticle for it before, and *it is*.
    1:29 this combo starts with a kinsect getting extracts from a monster, and this is an early game kinsect getting 2 extracts at once first off, then the focus mode strikes actually see the kinsect attack alongside the player making you feel more involved in the kinsect's actions, and the rising slash finisher also uses the kinsect as a means to propel the hunter up. The focus mode right now feels like the mode you use to command the kinsect simultaneously with your attacks (the x combo feels like it marks targets and the O combo has the assist kinsect) and not only does that make sense, it finally feels like we are getting a base game weapon that lets us actually have an involved pet. I think (i can't say anything certain yet because we legit haven't seen much IG gameplay) that the focus mode is the kinsect command mode, and outside that is the IG movement mode and it'll probably have kinsect auto-attacking+exceptional mobility (idk, but there was that ender where you shot a kinsect marking thing at the monster).

    Hmm, judging by the icons in the controls for Zero Sum Discharge I think you can do it without being mounted first, but you have to hold the buttons now instead of just tapping Triangle+Circle. You clearly knew your way around Swaxe, so perhaps your muscle memory threw you off? The icons also could stand to be clearer though, I don't think it explains that a single arrow over the button means to hold it.
    Same is likely true of Full Release slash, looks like you have to hold R2 to do it, else you just get a compressed slash?
    Edit: just checked the infographics with the weapon controls, and yeah ZSD requires you to hold the buttons now.

    From what I understand you don't need to be in focus mode to cause weakspots or even utilize them for extra damage. You only need focus mode to utilize the focused attacks. That being said, I'd take a stab in the dark and say the IG bounce could be tied into that. Limited, maybe, but there's no way they remove the core mechanics of the weapon like that. Especially in its 5th itteration? Nah. More likely, you need to focus strike a weakspot from the air or something like that.

    A point they had about the luring pods in the Gamescon presentations: they work like a combination lure and emnity. You can use them to draw a monster to a different zone or an enemy, but you can also use it to be a tank as a lance user or something in a squad according to the presenter, so it works as a pseudo-taunt which is really neat.

    Focus Mode allows you to take advantage of weak points. Not create them. You make them simply by repealed hitting the same spot. I'm hyped for Wilds for sure.

    The disadvantage to focus mode is that you kill your hand constantly holding down L2 😂 but also you don’t need to be in focus mode to generate weak points, just to do the focus finisher.

    I get the point hunting horn secondary to buff yourself is strong, but keep in mind having blowgun with bunch of different type of ammo like paralisys or sleep is also pretty powerfull and since ammo has its own inventory is free to carry, so I would say is equally powerfull maybe even more so in the right scenarios.

    Thanks for the footage and preview. In regards to performance, it does look terrible sometimes in this video, especially the ride at 7:00 looks like sub 20fps. I hope they nail the performance on PS5, theer is some time for optimization. Super excited to play this in October at Gamescom Asia and all of next year. The shaky framerates I have seen in this and other videos are my only concern.

      what's bothering me in the number of time i saw the model changing to low detail then mid then high detail, even if the monster was right near the hunter, there's some issue with LOD distancee loading wich apparently also affect the environment and my guess is that this thing is killing the fps, maybe they had to do it because optimization isn't properly done yet : /

    Mounted ZSD spam was a mistake, it needed to go.
    Super high skill floor, super low skill ceiling- it pushed Switch Axe gameplay into a very static and repetitive direction.
    And the entire time the Hunter is latched on, they aren’t determining the outcome, the monster can either punish them or it can’t.
    It was a flashy, cool looking gameplay element, but it was a big mistake for the long term health of the weapon from a mechanical perspective.
    I’m very glad to see them turn Switch Axe back away from it before people got even more attached to it.

      I think ZSD is still in as normal, you just have to HOLD triangle and circle in order to latch onto the monster. That way you can still do a normal discharge even if you’re in the amped state. People won’t be spamming ZSD as much in Wilds anyway because there are other cool explosive options now, and there’s no clutch claw or switch charger to grant easy access.
      What I’m most upset about is how axe mode doesn’t receive the little elemental damage pops from amped state anymore, that was the best change in Rise. But the website says power axe mode buffs axe mode damage now, so hopefully that’s enough to offset the loss.

    You can make wounds and do increased dmg to the wounds even outside of focus mode. Focus mode , outside of the different movement and aiming, Is really there to highlight the wounded spot. But also there to use the focus mode attack to burst the wound.

If something is removed from a game that messes with people's styles of play, they have a right to be upset and voice their opinions. There's a reason in GU some styles and hunter arts were used and others were used less or never. There's a reason Escaton Judgement and Alatraeon are fiercely hated. One of the core essences of MH is the freedom to play how you choose.

    I like the focus mode idea. As a hammer main in world, I had to time my attacks so I could bonk a monster in the head for a KO. With focus mode, you might not even have to wait for an opportunity to hit the face or weakpoints.

    I said the hunting horn thing to Kplays as well he didn’t think the buffs went to other weapons but just the HH from the video you said that I did watch he did only buff himself then switch to his primary weapon. Which means it’ll be used more of a stat stick. Because of self improvement having innate minds eye plus extra movement speed then the buffs on the horn people are just going to look for attack up and defense up plus increased stamina regeneration or health boost or regeneration

    Notice @1:14 Chatacabra dropped a "Chatacabra Scale +". Also notice @14:20 Doshaguma dropped a "Doshaguma Hide +". Also notice @18:35 Balahara dropped a "Balahara Scalp +". Anyone know how Low Rank and High Rank monster parts' names are differentiated? Some High Rank parts' names are suffixed with a "+", however there are no Low Rank parts' names that are suffixed with "+". So this makes it seem like the demo has high rank monsters but these fights clearly looked Low Rank if I had to take an experienced guess. These monsters clearly looked introductory and appropriate for beginner monsters, but they are dropping High Rank items? Help me understand.....unless the "+" is no longer used to name High Rank monster parts.

      @@FightinCowboy It's absolutely necessary since they added a way to combo Standing Discharge into Full Release. If you are locked into always impaling at close range any time you are in amped state that would be really frustrating. This is a pretty good change and improvement to the moveset.

      I also couldn't execute the new Swaxe finisher, kept trying but couldn't get it off in time. I know I keep saying it but honestly there just wasn't enough time to test this shit.     i think I'm alright with the IG changes. Losing the aerial combos is a little disheartening, but the ground game was where your damage was really important, and optimal play in World usually rarely used the aerial combos apart from the pogo move. The ground moves you showed off are so crazy and amazing, so if they're making a tradeoff by reducing aerial moves but giving more ground versatility, I'm okay with it.

    Hearing the difference in movesets, i habe a feeling there will be the switch skill system returning from rise. Allowing people to adjust the movesets.

    I know bow will always be using focus mode with having to aim at the monster but I’m really excited for bow tho definitely a change on how the coatings work now

    I was thinking Charge Blade and then having the Bow as a secondary weapon would be really good. Hunting Horn would probably be crazy as a secondary so I don’t think I’ll be using it as much 😂 wanna give the monsters a fighting chance.
