- The 17th century poet Thomas Traherne lived and worked in Hereford and the Herefordshire countryside, which greatly inspired his poetry and prose.
In this video in our series 'Poets in their landscape' we tell of Traherne's life and read some of his works in the setting in which they were written.
The video concludes with Traherne's poem 'Wonder' set to music by Malcolm Archer and sung by the Maxim family - • How like an angel came...

That was fantastic watch and well put together..I really enjoyed that, In return I'll like to provide some magic to raise funds to maintain St Mary's and take action within my soul as a thank-you ☦🙏
Well done ! Beautiful
Thank you for this beautiful video. I will share it with my children. His words touch my soul with profound joy in this, God’s creation.
I've slept in St. Mary's churchyard. I caught the first bus in to Hereford -7:00a.m.'ish. There were more people than I expected; yet it was quiet on that bus. To warm myself up ( after ' bathing ' myself in the metallic toilet behind the church, I entered ' McDonald's ' for the very first time in my life. The warmth, the unstoppable movement of people, the colours crossing the tv screen and a simple , everyday ordinary cup of tea made me feel lonely. I'd never felt lonely before this. Maybe I was still carrying Thomas with me.
Impressive and beautiful! I have translated some of Traherne's writings into French and he has been a dear companion for years now. Well done for this delicate and powerful insight into his world.
Wonderful in every respect!
