Leaders and stalwarts of the American heavy metal scene since the early 80s, Armored Saint's eighth full-length Punching The Sky sees them returning hard. A diverse, attitude-drenched collection, it's everything the band's faithful have come to expect from them while pushing their signature sound forward. "The goal is to write really good music. I know I'm stating the obvious here but that's about the size of our agenda," says bassist Joey Vera. "We've been able to shed a lot of expectations that sometimes plague a band like ours that has been around a long time, and we've recently moved into a comfort zone with just being ourselves. We have this kind of freedom now that we didn't really have early in our career, and we can take some chances and make the kind of music that we want to hear. This record is a reflection of where we are at, right now." Exploding to life with the crunchy, rousing "Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants" and not letting up until the closing ruthless riff of "Never You Fret", the record is possessed of an urgency and vigor which very much places it in the right now, but could only be the work of Vera, guitarists Phil Sandoval and Jeff Duncan, drummer Gonzo Sandoval and vocalist John Bush. "When you're a band that began four decades ago, you really have to push yourself harder than ever when it comes to making a new record," states Bush. "The last thing you ever want is for it to appear as though you were going through the motions or that you're just putting a product out to do some touring. The records are immortal. They'll be here long after us. Every one needs to count in its own individual way." - Hudba

Nothing but respect for Armored Saint, over 35 years around and they still make great music while most of their contemporaries are just nostalgia acts nowadays.
Not to mention, they´re still down to earth guys and are appreciating & interacting with their fans.
I feel the same about Armored Saint as well as a fellow contemporary by the name of Metal Church. Two bands who are still around, putting out great music. I feel that both of those bands should've been much bigger in the 80's. I saw both as opening acts back then and most of us knew who they were. They were solid then and are both solid now. I saw both bands live in the last couple of years pre Covid. Still solid, tight and great shows.
annihilator and armored saint are still kickass and way over looked.

I've been a fan of Armored Saint since the early 80's and this album sounds awesome again.
This album was a return for form. I feel like Bush has more of an opportunity to show his vocal skills here than he ever did in Anthrax, and he still sounds amazing. This album had me hype when it was announced, and it didn't disappoint

Delirious Nomad was a very formative part of my childhood and when Dave died, I felt it hard. Right up there when Chriss Oliva died. How do you not feel like a part of you died when something so much a part of your life and who you are is suddenly gone?
Fast forward 35 years, and thankfully, these guys have kept it going, and keep setting the bar. Awesome.

Living in conservative Baton Rouge, Louisiana I was lucky enough to see Armored Saint and Saxon together at the (still) biggest nightclub in town (Texas Club). I played on that same stage many times since and every time I have, I remember seeing that show. John Bush is one of those vocalists -like Chris Cornell(rip) who is "unmistakeable when you hear him.

Oh man, last Armored Saint album I bought was "Revelations" around 2000, I didn't realize they're still at it. And doin' great! They sure have their unique style that makes them stand out from other bands. I'd love to see them live, come to Europe soon!
