Leaders and stalwarts of the American heavy metal scene since the early 80s, Armored Saint's eighth full-length Punching The Sky sees them returning hard. A diverse, attitude-drenched collection, it's everything the band's faithful have come to expect from them while pushing their signature sound forward. "The goal is to write really good music. I know I'm stating the obvious here but that's about the size of our agenda," says bassist Joey Vera. "We've been able to shed a lot of expectations that sometimes plague a band like ours that has been around a long time, and we've recently moved into a comfort zone with just being ourselves. We have this kind of freedom now that we didn't really have early in our career, and we can take some chances and make the kind of music that we want to hear. This record is a reflection of where we are at, right now." Exploding to life with the crunchy, rousing "Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants" and not letting up until the closing ruthless riff of "Never You Fret", the record is possessed of an urgency and vigor which very much places it in the right now, but could only be the work of Vera, guitarists Phil Sandoval and Jeff Duncan, drummer Gonzo Sandoval and vocalist John Bush. "When you're a band that began four decades ago, you really have to push yourself harder than ever when it comes to making a new record," states Bush. "The last thing you ever want is for it to appear as though you were going through the motions or that you're just putting a product out to do some touring. The records are immortal. They'll be here long after us. Every one needs to count in its own individual way."

I don't get how these guys are not bigger. Killer vocals. I met them at an in store appearance when Raising Fear came out in the 80's. Great guys!
Saw them with WASP last December in LA. They were terrific live, definitely one of the best warm-up bands I've ever seen.
They are as big as they need to be, underground is good enough for real talent!

I think Armored Saint got the raise they got because of Bush's stint in Anthrax and basically adjusting the sound of Anthrax so that it was a hybrid of sorts. I never even heard of Armored Saint until Bush was in Anthrax and I was curious as why the sound changed so profoundly with the band. I'm glad in the end that Bush is back with Armored Saint and they are still putting out music.

I used to hang out with John and Dave before they were even signed and they always came and saw my band Savage Fury, I am so glad they are still going strong. Gonzo looks better now than back in the 80s...John if you ever see this this is Rock from Savage Fury. You guys were so nice inviting us to your after parties and homes. Armored Saint forever. I used the song damaged many times to tune speakers. You will always be my favorite band. Shawn Duncan the brother of Mr Guitar monster is a great guy as well always thought maybe he would play with you guys being Jeff's bro...God Bless you guys may you continue to make great songs.

Armored Saint are a national treasure. Scandalously underrated band that keeps putting out quality material when many of their peers have long quit or fallen off.
They are being inducted into the Metal hall of fame, july 13 2023.

JOHN BUSH best vocalist in Metal! Class act as well. Interviewed John back in the 80's, afterwards He set me up with backstage passes to a near by show. They were touring with Quiet Riot & Whitesnake at the time. Meeting the ENTIRE band was awesome! All these years later and they are still KICKING IT.
The Saint have always been one of my all-time favorite bands and one that never got the recognition they truly deserve. These first two tracks released from the new record are classic Saint and sound amazing. John Bush is still one of the best metal vocalist and front men ever. His voice is absolutely made for metal. Can't wait to get the full record......\m/\m/

Hail the mighty Armored Saint, one of the very best metal bands ever. Deserved way more credit when they hit the scene. First three albums alone are as good as anything any 80's band or Maiden or Priest etc ever did. These guys like quality old soul European musicianship, and have one of the best singers in metal of all time.
PS. RIP Dave Prichard - one of my favorite guitarists.

I first saw Armored Saint live opening for Metallica when I was just 14. It was the Ride the Lightning/Delirious Nomad tour and they played at The Big Apple club in El Paso TX. It was awesome and we got a chance to meet Cliff who was checking out the Saint set. Good times......🤘🏾🔥

Can confirm. Met some of them a few years back at SF. They were just hanging out in front of the venue like any other fan there to see Armored Saint. Joey Vera is a very humble dude.

I really like John’s stuff he did with Anthrax but I do like Joey Belladonna! They both had their pros while being in the band!
@@archangel5627 That's fair. Many fans feel the same as you do, while some strongly prefer Joey. I was vocal about my opinion because I'm strongly in favour of John. I am still a fan of the band with Joey though. There is a vast history of classic metal anthems they wrote as I was growing up. I remember purchasing each album as it was released. Great memories! For us older guys, Bush belongs here with Armored Saint. Bush was never ever ever meant to be a thrash metal vocalist. I never understood Bush joining Anthrax.

During the very early 90s I loved Armored Saint and Anthrax but over the course of the 90s I had gotten so accustomed to John Bush’s voice with Anthrax that forgot what it was like when Joey Belladonna was the vocalist. It wasn’t until Bush went back to Armored Saint in 2000 and put out Revelation when I realized he was much better match for Armored Saint than Anthrax. Then when Anthrax put out Worship Music with Joey Belladonna, I said to myself, this is the real Anthrax and Joey’s voice sounded so great in an old school and a modern way! I’m happy that both bands have their perfect singers and I can’t wait to hear the rest of the new Armored Saint album!💪🏻🤘🏻

I still can't understand those who pretend he had nothing to do there... "Sound of White Noise" is one of a kind, "Volume 8" is criminally underrated, and "We've Come for You All" carries the whole fucking thing.

Man The Saint guys always deliver great music with intelligent lyrics. Saw them on there Saints are Marching tour and I believe the West Hartford Agora Ballroom here in Connecticut. They were phenomenal. First thing I noticed was how their production job on the album didn't do justice to how crunchy they were and how John's voice was so animalistic, on fire!! Weirdly I remember some roadie pushing John into the front rows and he served on top of us. He got back up on a stage and he kept looking around at the back he didn't look too happy, but he didn't miss a beat at the same time. Got it makes me feel so good to know they're still out there making music. Thanks guys🤘😎🤘

So excited to be seeing Armored Saint this August with WASP. I was in 8th grade when March of the Saint and the first WASP albums came out and they were a big part of my high school years. Armored Saint remains consistently badass and have in my opinion NEVER put out a shitty tune. John Bush is one the best singers in his genre EVER. I'm seeing a lot of shows this year and this one is probably my most anticipated. Gonna do the VIP meet and greet for sure!
