    The show that Smokey and the guys were performing on was a British series called "Ready, Steady, Go!" that had one special all-Motown episode. That's why the Supremes were singing backup, on the side.

      He and Diana Ross go back a long way. They first met as neighbors in 1955 when she was 11 and he was 15. After joining Motown she cajoled him into getting The Supremes then known as The Primettes an audition.

    Micky’s Monkey was one of Smokey Robinson and The Miracle earlier hits - 1963 - Shop Around was the first big hit for the group in 1961 - all of the songs the made was hits - They was the first big group on Motown Records - Smokey became VP of Motown Records and he wrote most of his hits - The man is a Legend in his own time - I remember seeing Smokey and The Miracels at The Apollo Theatre in NYC doing - Mickey’s Monkey - Those were the days - I am glad I was born in that era - I would have missed a lot if I was born in the 90’s.

      Adding a correction to my previous Reply. I should have said - “I would have missed a lot if I wasn’t born in the. “40”. The 50’s & 60’s was Rock N Roll Best decades - the 70’s was OK too

      @@MICHAELEHILL-dz5ou "Mickeys Monkey" was released early 1965 by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles . A classic! 1st heard it on Philadelphias famous 56 Wfil with the Boss Jocks . George Michaels ( hosted a sports program late 80s early 90s , and few years later he expired) , Jim O' Brian ( was killed in a sky diving accident late summer - early autumn 1983) , Jim Nettleton ( I would guess he passed somehow of whatever?) , Dr. Don Rose , and some others whose names I just can't remember at this moment .
      Nevertheless , times were good evan though Vietnam became a tragic blemish though.

    You might change your mind if you see the original "King Kong" Movie...I hope you can find it...He acted that way for very good reasons. There is a common expression: "If it's not broken...Don't fix it." King Kong wasn't broken...Some foolish men tried to fix him...

  • @laminage
    @laminage Před 13 lety +4

    Oh here's another interesting fact. When it was on Video, it was distributed by a Company owned by Dick Clark, The Host Of American Bandstand. Motown sued him feeling that they should get a percentage of the proftis since it featured performances by Motown Artists. They settled but it was kind of sad to know that Dick Clark out of all of the Old School TV Hosts did so much for Motown and he gets treated like that.

    "Baby Boomers" / Children of "Baby Boomers" have seen this Video-Docu Drama and can attest to the fact that this is one of the Best...if not the Best compilation of "Fun" in the height of "shattering" advances being perpetrated against America while we partied and slept soundly...Those days are gone but,the reminders "energize" the largest group included in We, the People..."Share" it whenever and wherever you can. It is actually very powerful as it is very thought provoking..."Boomers"... Rule

    • @waukivorycopse2402
      @waukivorycopse2402 Před 4 lety +1

      What I find thought provoking is boomers claiming this music when they created none of it. Smokey born 1940, Marvin Gaye 1939, Miss Ross 1944, Dylan 1941, John Lennon 1940, Brian Wilson 1943, Chuck Berry 1926, Bo Diddley 1928, Little Richard 1932. Not a boomer among them.

      How correct you are .
      I was 7 going on 8 years old when this came out . 1st heard it Phillies Famous 56 Wfil ; I'm guessing early 65 to , probably , mid 65 . Yes ! Vietnam was heating up by early 1965 , when President Lyndon B. Johnson sent a brigade of US of A Marines there in early 65 , along with the 173rd Airborne being sent as brigade 1st , and then a brigade of the 101st Airborne to the Central-Highlands SouthVietnam !
      Then , later toward mid- Spring , early Summer , President Johnson sent the "Big Red One " , Americas 1st infantry division to the Saigon/Mekong Delta area . That area was under 111 (3 ) Corp. area . The 1st Calvary Division (black colored horses head with thick black Stripe beneath it.) Then , around mid-spring 65 the "Tropical Lightning " , 25th Infantry Division was sent , brigade size at 1st to the area of north west of Saigon in 3 corp. . A battalion was sent to the Central - Highlands working in conjunction with units of the 1st Calvary , and 173rd Airborne Divisions , and south of the Central- Highlands , but north west of Saigon the US of As 25th Infantry Divisions other battalions were battling NVA , and Viet- Cong units in the Tay Nihn area , at the Cambodian border .
