I wanted to make this video a bit more in-depth than Tiktok would allow, and Tiktok has been pretty bad about pushing my videos as of recently, so I figured CZcams would be the far better platform for something like this. Hope this makes someone's day a bit easier. The valve cover gasket isn't too hard at all to do on these cars, in fact, 99% of the work is really just in getting to the valve cover itself. Once you're there, removal, inspection and replacement is very easy from that point forward.

My dad used to never worry about protecting his hands from solvents either. Then he died from Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Major risk factor is exposure to industrial solvents. I had my fair share of exposure to solvents and used oil as well. But after I earned a degree in Toxicology, I figured out why that's a bad idea. Still, to each his own. I appreciate the video, but I think I've GOTTA find a way to get that rubber piece out of the way (ha). Going to tackle this next weekend.

PSA: The middle plug with the flange under it was for the Valvetronic eccentric shaft actuator, my mind was not terribly worried about the terminology for it since it's usually just more of an "in-the-way" thing, but if anyone was curious that's for your variable lift. Remember to plug that back in or your idle quality will be awful lol.

16 foot pounds is way to high , 8.5 NM is 6 foot pounds you can crack the valve cover with 16 FP or even strip the bolt , its 8.5 newton meters guys or 6 foot pounds

I thought the flange/Valvetronic Actuator Seal is suppose to be replaced with new screws when taken off?

In these jobs, is it ok to use a gasket sealer to kinda keep the gasket in place or would that be bad

Great question! So I wouldn't advise using RTV of any sort on the mating side of the gasket (part that actually touches the cylinder head) however if you want to, you can use small dots of RTV in the valley the gasket sits in on the valve cover itself just to hold it in place. I did this job dry, but I have used that trick before on V-shaped engines where it's a bit easier to accidentally drop the gasket when seating the cover. Good luck!
