i love simon and marcys story because tom kenny (ice king's va) used to babysit oliva olson (marceline's va) when she was a kid. its so cute how the story circled back to the actors. :]

If you've ever had a relative go through Alzheimer's or dementia, it's a lot like Marceline and Simon. It's the same person and you love them, but they might even remember who you are or all the things you've been through.
With regards to Marshal Lee, remember it was Marceline telling a story about her counterpart. It's actually really interesting that she did write him with one of her flaws. She does take things too far, but it seems she's also aware of it. Maybe how she acts is her toning down her natural inclinations. She IS over 1000 years old. Imagine still trying to take the plot of a game seriously on your 1000th playthrough. That's gotta be what her life is like.
I like the game analogy. To take it a bit farther, I can see her maybe changing he perspective on it. Like that this isn’t her 1000th play through, but her 1000th game. Sure she can see all the similarities and tropes, but each has there own identity. Maybe she should stop playing around and start playing along.
there is a theory that the reason Marcey got sick in the first place was because of Simon's snow which just makes it so much sadder :(

Simon wasn't sick. He used the crown once and it immediately took hold. He can't get rid of it even if he wanted to, it's kind of like a magic addiction kind of thing. But the physical transformation is the most prominent as evident by this episode and the secret tapes episode. Simon was doomed the second he heard the crown 'say' that it'll save him with its power. It's actually really sad seeing him slowly turn into Ice King.
He at the very least thinks he'd die without it. (regardless if true or not) "This magic keeps me alive, but it's making me crazy!" He was still himself enough to have said "us" if he meant the magic in the context of protecting themselves. This has credence in the episode Betty, as he almost dies without its magic, due to how old he was at that point. We basically know its not radiation poisoning or anything because of The Winter King episode of Fiona and Cake. Won't explain that for spoiler reasons.
Doesn't the influence of the crown decrease if you remove it far away (this was in the episode where Betty stole the crown and the Ice King began to transform back - but the effect returned when he got closer to the crown)?

I always loved how Marcy treated Simon when they were older. She was so sweet and understanding

I forgot how funny that "one second later" bit in the april fools episode was. I remember when it came out and I was laughing hysterically when it got to that part. That's the kind of humor that just tickles me, and I loved Adventure Time so much for it.
basically the war is what created the Land of Ooo from all the radiation. As we see in the season 5 premiere with Finn in a different world when the bomb that Simon was holding eventually blew, the radiation transformed jake into the lich. So yea the war mutated the earth creating everything into monsters and creating things such as sentient candy and talking stretchy dogs. Only a few lived thru the war such as marceline and ice king
The bomb didn't straight up create everything in Ooo, it was the catalyst that increased the elasticity in the world.
PB created the candy kingdom and people artificialy.
Simon didn’t survive because of the detonation of the mushroom bomb be survived from the power of the crown which we learn was made by Urgence Evergreen right before the crash of the green catalyst commit that wiped out the dinosaurs

Iirc in "I Remember you" Marcy says that she told Simon to stay away from her. And this episode just adds so much more impact to her pushong him in that episode, telling him to stop acting crazy. Because she saw him lose his sanity. So that kinda sums up how she feels. She was hurting, and probably felt guilty because from what we see, he mostly would put on the crown to help and protect her. And also lil fact this was the last Episode Rebecca sugar helped work on i believe
So that's why they call her cake.

There's a theory that the reason why Simon keeps saying Gunther is because Gunther (not the penguin) was the first living being to wear the crown.
Simon and Marcy is such a heartbreaking episode.
I just wanted to point one thing out: While there will always be some pain that comes with memories of how things were, Marceline isn't *suffering* from being around Ice King and keeping the old man company. Ice King may not be her Simon, but well, as he says himself a bit later on: "I'm my own person, and *I* am deserving or respect!" Marceline spends so much time with Ice King, not just because he used to be Simon, but also because unlike well, ANYBODY else, Marceline *actually* took the initiative to have patience and kindness while learning who ICE KING really is. And it turns out that who he really is is somebody she likes having around. I think that element of the story is so commonly overlooked, so I point it out wherever I can, Marceline is a masterclass on the values of Kindness, Patience and Empathy.

I don't know if others have thought about this, but I have a theory where Finn is the gum that helps Simón. Remember that there is a part in the series where Finn goes through all his past lives and one of them is a pink thing (kinda looks like gum), I think this is the same one we see in episode fourteen. I believe it would fit well with the fact that he is helping and saving people who need it, like a true personification of good.
Simon turning into Ice king is much like parent having a Dementia when they get old. It sucks in both cases and you would probably feel like Marcy.

simon wasnt sick, the moment he put on the crown the first time, the transformation took effect and it was an inevitable thing, but only took effect more when he continously puts it on, he has it still as he thinks the powers can protect marcy

in finns alternate wish reality, the bomb never went off, so earth seemed more normal.

Don't hate on marshall he literally did the exact same thing Marcy did when she was introduced. She kept joking around took Jake and darn near killed him all for the sake of fun and games.

So apparently the original story pitch was Marcy was getting sicker and sicker and that’s why they checked the clambulance for real medicine and why Simon has a melt down but the network thought it was too dark so they kept it at the chicken soup level

Ten seasons and a four episode sequel series with one hour episodes. Which the seasons vary in length with this being the longest season at 52 episodes and season ten being the shortest at 13 episodes. Which the original series finale is an hour (counting commercials) special.

So the crown was used by a dinosaur named gunther, and he wished to become master evergreen. Now maybe that is why simon looks so similar to master evergreen because of that?
