I don't know about live action but I'm all for a Jak and Daxter movie
I feel like a “live action” Jak and Daxter would utilize so much CGI that it would essentially just be an animated film with a couple live action actors thrown in.

It's all I imagine it in. Y'all are cracked up. It just begs for live action much more than the other 2 mascots x100. Kinda crazy to rely on animation for eaily achievable scenes in live action. These comments seem so nonsensical to me.
I think Jak and Daxter would be better as an animated movie then the characters fit better in an animated world. The OG voice cast could come back as well, a win - win for everyone. P.S. I think Daxter’s OG voice actor is the only one who can do the character justice.
I don’t know about Chris Pratt being the voice of Daxter. I mean first he was Mario in the Super Mario Movie, but this? I don’t know. IMPO, it would be a good idea that when we make Animated PlayStation Projects including Sly Cooper, we cast mainstream actors who fit the roles of the characters.
Yeah if they're so desperate to cast a celebrity voice, I'd choose Charlie Day or Kevin Hart as Daxter

I pretty much agree with everyone here, animation over live action, but first I would love a new Jak and Daxter game first
I feel Jak and Daxter, while still holding a place in gamers hearts, would work better as a film if the series was still regularly putting out games... there hasn't been one in 15 years so the film may be an odd choice to adapt when newer gamers aren't all too aware of them. Needs a gaming comeback first before a film is made.

Like for example make Daxter CGI but his style is still faithful to the original design, similar to the sonic movie designs! (And I mean the current ones, not… you know)
If it’s based on Jak 1, then embrace that whimsical almost Jim Henson-esque fantasy flair
If it’s more based on Jak 2 and 3, embrace the grittier but still stylish and colorful style
In other words, don’t tone elements down to make it work with live action, just go nuts. However I would not be surprised if this turns out to be an early idea and they eventually turned it into an animated movie thanks to the Mario movie’s massive success (after all sometimes in the industry, monkey see monkey do)
No. If they want the CGI to be as realistic as possible, they will make the film dark and colourless to hide imperfections in the CGI.
If it's fully animated they can keep the characters true to the original- or updated designs but they don't need to make everything dark to hide the imperfections that can break the illusion of the CGI looking realistic.
@@MazeMaker4Life That could be possible! but at this point we'll have to wait and see because for sure we're not gonna see this for like... 2-3 years (movie making takes time!)
so for now it's just something fun to think about! And besides we already got other stuff to sink our teeth into before the potential movie comes out!

I just feel Jak and Daxter could work more as tv serie. But a movie? Is more risky.
Still, i wonder if after Medievil we could have also the revival of Sly Cooper tv serie. Would be interesting to watch.
Make it animated and bring back the video game voice actors. Have no idea why you wouldnt utilize the same talents that we grew to love in the first place
In my opinion, if they make an animated movie, they need to get the voice actors from the game to do it. If they used A-list actors to voice them, it would throw it off I feel. The game's voices are so iconic. Especially Daxter. Seeing Daxter and hearing Chris Pratts voice would throw it for me.

Agreed about the live action part but animated with the OG cast nobody gonna see this movie and it's gonna flop so hard it needs a good cast of beloved and known actors like tom Holland and Chris Pratt so it brings audience to movie theaters and have the potential to be big and make good money

@parsaalishiri8138 Yeah, yet judging by Sonys track record of outsourcing stuff to other companies, they can't even do shit in-house. Remember the R&C movie they had no control over that project and instead outsourced it

That's mindblowin', a lot of people are gonna disagree with that route, animated's definitely better, it really ain't that hard, I feel like they can easily do a great job makin' a movie about Ratchet and Jak but no one has the care and motivation to do it.
What scares me the most about all this is that, if they make a bad movie and it turns out to be a commercial failure, Sony could abandon the IP permanently because they would think that no one is interested in Jak and Daxter anymore.
I would really prefer that they make a remake or remaster of the trilogy rather than a movie, series or anything that is not a video game.

Sonic 2 and Detective Pikachu worked because the character designs and setting looked great; even with varying results...
The Super Mario Bros movie worked because it's a world meant for animation, and can only work in animation.
While I haven't played a single Jak and Daxter game, it feels like it should stick to animation. It can do whatever it wants if it helps enhance the story.

Man fuck a movie, it’s been damn near 15 years we want a GAME. Why would you make a movie when the franchise has been in the dirt for well over a decade? That’s like if somebody said they wanted to make a movie based on that old Berzerk game from the ‘80s

Edit: Let's not forget that Jak was a mute on the first game with the occasional grunts,yells and whatnot if Jak is voiced in the live action movie it would lose the magic of the character

But seriously though, I'd *love* a Jak and Daxter movie. I haven't played a Jak and Daxter game since...2009? (I got a bit involved with Halo, Borderlands, and Gears of War...) And I've been missing the chaotic duo for some time now. Watching speedruns and full gameplays just isn't doing it for me...I really need to play the games again (gotta get a Playstation first though)
I think a live action could work...but there would need to be a LOT of CGI/animation stuff going on in the background because of the setting Jak and Daxter takes place in. We're not talking modern day or even old day...

Im not a fan of the idea of a live action jak movie, I really do appreciate that someone is at least doing something new with jak and daxter. But i would rather have a animated jak movie not live action especially not making it weird and dark, and have tom holland and chris pratt be the duo.
Seems like it will be a blend of aspects from the trilogy or quadrilogy based upon the uncharted film and how that took plot points from many of the games. “Jak 4” the game should still be made.

I'd be up for a Jak & Daxter movie, but I think it should be an animated movie. Like you pointed out we've already gotten several good live action content from PlayStation Productions already with more on the way but since all of them have been about human characters, think now would be a good time for them to try animation. This could be good practice for when they start doing franchises like Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, Astro Bot and MediEvil.
If it was a live action movie, I see Daxter looking like MCU's Rocket Raccoon. Though not bad, I think making the whole thing animated would make it easier to make creatures like the Metal Heads or Dark and Light Jak for example.
Agreed. As well, the cartoony stretch/pull dynamics/intensity of the animation would be lost in live action. If anything, a slightly-anime direction would be best. Sort of the original blend of East/West inspiration.

I can't imagine a Jak and Daxter live action movie. I mean, on Fanon Wiki, I made like probably 6 pages of 6 Jak and Daxter video games that are live action, but that was just for fun. I just wanted a animated Jak and Daxter movie is all with the original voices of Jak and Daxter reprising their roles for the movie.

The thing is...When I was a kid, I wanted Jak and Daxter to be live-action. However, now that I'm an adult, I feel like...well...
Don't get me wrong, I'm slightly irritated in the Sonic movies and the new Mario Movie; the former because Sonic's design literally looks straight out of the Video Games instead of looking "real", and the latter because if the movie is just going to look like the games, why bother?
I see adapting something into Live-Action as a challenge that studios used to be bold enough to try to do; it's why I respect the original Mario Bros movie _more_ than I do the new animated one. But at the same time, I recognize a few realities about our current day situation.
For the one thing, Jak and Daxter seems to heavily rely on it's cartoonish aspects to not only deliver the comedy but to help build the world and tell it's story. The springy, rubber-nature of the duo seems to fit into their DNA. So ultimately, if these guys have so many cartoonish aspects to them, then you would think they would need to be animated. And if they were live-action, they wouldn't "look right." A realistic interpretation of Daxter probably wouldn't evoke the same feeling as Daxter - it's possible they could strike another Rocket-Racoon situation, where the CGI animal character looks cute and sounds sassy enough to be adored. But at the end of it all, it might not look right.
The inevitable truth is...if they do a Live-Action Jak and Daxter, the movie will be filled with so much CGI that you wonder why bother even making it live-action at all...and if it's just going to be Animated and look _exactly_ like the games, _why bother doing it at all?_

If it's animated atleast you can be extremely creative and colourful instead of depending on CGI and making the film extremely dark to hide the CGI's imperfections.

To be honest, a movie for Jak and Daxter as Live action could be good, with enough imaginative and apearence of the characters and the world itself. I'm curious if they will mix the Jak 1 and 2 as one movie, imagine Tom holland as the Dark eco monster would look like, I think it could look quite sick. Although mixing it up with the 3rd game with all the apocalyptic lore, might be a bit much for the first movie, or not, I'm no movie writer or game developer :) just some guy who waited for years for this moment, a little light sparking for a new Jak and Daxter remake or continuation of the series would be almost like a dream come true.

Honestly...I'm pretty mixed on the idea of Jak & Daxter going live-action. Solely because it strongly reminds me of the scrapped Jak 4 concept art. Hence, possibly losing the appeal & style of the franchise, in favor of something that doesn't really resonate with the fanbase.
I mean, Horizon, Uncharted, and all those other projects (Maybe aside from Gravity Rush, MediEvil) would already work 1:1 in live-action, 'cause that's what the dev teams had envisioned from the get-go. Jak & Daxter...not the same story.
I don't know, for all the hate the Ratchet & Clank film got, at least it remained animated, to keep in line with what the series is. And I just hope Jak & Daxter gets the same treatment, just handled a bit better. That way the series can get revived proper. Which begs the question of what's taking so long for Sly Cooper? It's been almost 10-years since the film was announced. :/
I'll say tho, the Sly fanbase sure has been patient.😅

You know I'm just gonna say this like everyone is right now but an animated Jax and Daxter flim would be better Because I have no idea how would they bring it to life.And having Chris Pratt in it eh not really how he would fit with the role especially He did recently play Mario. So other than that we'll see if this new quote on quote Adaptation could work and At least in my opinion the two Sonic Movie's were successful flims and made a bucket 🪣 full of money.

Live-action's a terrible idea, Jak 4 already is proof of that negative reception in the fanbase, to me it won't work as well as just a movie in general because nobody even asked for this, Holland and Pratt is already making this idea worse, the Mario movie's a great example of being a successful animated movie, being extremely visually faithful to how the games look, and if the R&C movie can have Ratchet and Clank's voice actors return for their roles than the same should apply here because no one can replace the voices of either of these two

Let's just face it. Jak, as a series, is dead. The chance of it coming back is becoming even more unlikely just like with sly which overall begs the question does Sony even care about these franchises they do with LBP to a degree but we know that we probably won't be getting another main entry
Yeah Animated jack and Daxter movie will be OK on my mark. A jack and Daxter seventh video game will be epic. But live action would definitely probably kill the series. Like the live action uncharted movie did great. All they did was just give the most hated character of the series, the name change and just kill her off in the satisfying way, possible for fans to forget about those two horrible games at the end of the series
