From the Roman ruins to the Rows (1931) Was King Harold smuggled up here to die after the Battle of Hastings? Did King Edgar build a palace here in the 10th century? Colorized 2021
Nearly 100 years on and they are still debating about excavation of the amphitheater because of a building built around the time of this film!! How frustrating, it’s my city and that of my fathers and grandfathers but we take it for granted until it’s too late and gone, please excavate the amphitheater and put Chester back on the map for the best of reasons. Great film, thanks for posting it.
Lots of bars along the canal and properties n outdoor drinkers in the evenings during the summer. The noise of all the chatter is deafening. pov. @@westaussie965
Sad that one of the richest men in the country and still is, couldn’t maintain that mansion and it was demolished and replaced by an ugly modern mansion.
Where they held king Jesus/Arthur in exile after losing the Jewish revolt of 70ad in exchange for his star prophesy as Vespasian was a commoner and needed it to become emperor. And did those feet in ancient times walk upon England's mountains green...
I live here and was born here, and I just lost my MIND pointing out all the places I go daily. Most of it hasn't changed. How gorgeous.
Hardly changed in all these decades. I work there. Love the city and its people.
A priceless historical document of this wonderful town - one of my favourites. Very tastefully colourised, and tremendouslly nostalgic
Nearly 100 years now and nothing’s changed. Thanks for sharing
Beautiful city. Proud to be a Cestrian!
My City, Born and Raised, Still live here now ❤

Absolutely stunning! So very beautiful.
I had a penpal (one of many) in the late 80s/early 90s who lived in Chester 😊
I miss Chester. I spent a good part of my childhood growing up in Boughton Heath in the 60/70s.
It's very much the same really.
How wonderful to see this and the narrators accent too. These are fascinating to watch .
This is a wonderful video. Thank you for posting. It's fabulous to see this old footage.

Been telling that tale about Harold for years...no one believes me.
I'm afraid the tale is just a tale. That Anchorite Cell was built in 1363

Seriously. Why is this video using the American spelling of colourised?
Who cares??
Well, I do!
