As a fairly average guitar is I can say that it’s not so much that what he playing is difficult (although it is absolutely masterful) it’s more that he’s able to channel such raw emotion into his playing. Anyone can learn that solo note by note but to be able to play it with such FEELING is where gilmour shines and why such musicians are few and far between. Big love bois ❤
Agreed wholeheartedly! I first learned to play the solo without mistakes when I was 15. I'm 30 now, and have played it on and off for another 15 years, and still just can't get it to sound and feel anywhere close to what Gilmour can do.
There's a difference between playing the notes and making music. There's many an argument about who did "the Great Gig in the Sky" better, but it was Richard Wright, Clare Torry and Alan Parsons who actually *made* the music.
Actually it is very difficult because of the precision of Gilmour's vibrato and bends. That skill is just as difficult as the twiddly fast stuff people do that seems more impressive at first glance.
Anything Pink Floyd does from this Pulse concert is equivalent to almost any other group's Grand finale!! Do High Hopes from this concert to see David Gilmour play the lap steel guitar.

I was lucky to be born "early" enough to see it at 18... As a HUGE Floyd fan since my 12, it was unexpected, to happen, and unexpected to reach this level of quality for a post Waters production. And they played Dark Side, started with Astronomy Domine, the only regret, is that I couldn't realize what happened. I couldn't realize being "there" in the crowd in front of my favorite band... So I've got that blurry memory as if it was a dream. I wish I could have a recorder in my brain to play it again. It was in Bordeaux, France, summer 94... Open air concert in the middle of the town, neighbors where watching and listening at the windows, we started the sun was sill there, and finished like 3 hours later in the night, with lasers and fireworks. Crazy.
The big disco ball is highly symbolic. First of all, it wasn't seen until the lights spotted it. It was simply not there! Hidden in a box in the ceilling. So when it got lit, you can understand why the audience went wild. And then, when it opened up and showed the shining diamond that's inside, a direct reference to "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (which refer to Syd Barrett), the fans understood! Genius! What's more? This is one of the 3 songs they in the « encore ».
8:00 When I went to the opening show of this tour in Miami Florida the crowd was just in awe, showing the music the reverence it deserves, I probably only blinked about 5 times during the whole show....It was respected and treated like being at a symphony by almost everyone that was in my section of the infield 17 rows from the stage....That was my experience with the crowd anyway.... I can’t remember if you guys have done Meddle yet, but that is the album with the studio version of Echoes, which is probably better than any live version. Meddle is the obvious choice for the next album, but I will give you a couple more options, namely The Division Bell and Atom Heart Mother. The Division Bell is more conventional and contemporary, whereas Atom Heart Mother is strange, unique, and has a 24 minute epic (called Atom Heart Mother (suite)) longer than Echoes with a full orchestra. The Division Bell has no real “weak” tracks, whereas Atom Heart Mother has a track that is weak to some people called Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast. This song starts with breakfast noises and is kinda weird for the first 6 minutes, but then is slowly transitions into an ending of epic proportions that almost reaches the heights of Atom Heart Mother (suite). Atom Heart Mother is typical early Floyd with higher highs and lower lows, whereas The Division Bell has one or two mediocre tracks and a lot of really incredible ones. Your choice, I guess, Meddle (probably the best choice), Atom Heart Mother, or The Division Bell!
David didn't just have to play those solos. He also had to create and write them from scratch. He had to listen to the unfinished song and then create solos that would match the intensity, tone and feel of the song while also lifting and propelling it upwards and forwards.

Yeh not the most technically advanced, fast thrash, but just absolutely off the scale with technique, feeling and accuracy. You can play a note and then "bend" the string to reach a higher note. All you have to do is hear and feel exactly how far to bend, and then simply never miss!😂 Oh and it's not just a single semitone tone up, or two or three in some tracks Dave Gilmour is bending up to five semitones.... And that's insanely hard and insanely tough on the fingers. By bending from one note to the next it adds texture, and feeling. Even when it's done quickly the human brain can "ride the wave" it's makes a curve instead of a sharp step. It's an art and DG is one of the masters.
I was actually there that night and, let me tell you, the crowd was virtually silent throughout the guitar solos - except for the helpless sobbing from both men and women! It was, and remains, the single greatest experience of my life.
This concert (Pulse) was at the end of their career as PF. The staging and lighting (in 1994) cost 25 million. PF concerts are immersive. And no, their audiences never freak out during performances. It is about the music and the presentation of the music. Maybe consider watching the entire concert--there is not 1 weak performance in the whole show. This tour also included the entire performance of 'Dark Side of the Moon.'
If i remember the younger guy is guy pratt who they had for roger waters vocal and some guitar. As a number of the peices require the contrast in voices.they were fantastic live

Don’t forget a lot of the crowd will have smoked spliffs (joints) before the show and would be riding the Floyd trip so not jumping around all the time. A few people dancing to the sides no doubt but generally blissfully or comfortably numb within themselves.

If you want to hear crazy live performances, then listen to Swans Are Dead by Swans. It's a 140 minute culmination of everything the band was doing up to that point. I was lucky enough to see the band live this April, and it was insane. It was so loud that it seemed like the whole room was shaking. What was even crazier is that the first song they played lasted 76 MINUTES!! Afterwords the singer asked how long it was, and when someone told him he was just like "aight, damn.", and they just immediately went to the next song. It was fucking great.
The bassist here is Guy Pratt, he’s had a great career as a session bassist and with his own musical projects too. Done some acting too. Very impressive CV
He got better with age. Keep on rockin' boys. This is probably the best prog rock song ever -- definitely the best guitar solo. The best prog rock album ever is Dark Side of the Moon. Even though I'm a hard core YES fan.
Just scored tickets for David Gilmour's show in LA later this year. Probably his last outing. He'll leave most 70's Floyd out of the show, but this song will definitely be played and it's going to be awesome. Pulse was one of my first concerts and have seen many of the solo shows (mainly Roger Waters since). They were always amazing shows.
You guys should react to Piper at the Gates of Dawn. It's the first Pink Floyd album and is so different from all of the later albums that you guys have reacted to thus far. Syd Barrett is the mastermind behind this one and it is the last album before Syd Barrett started to lose it. Saucerful of Secrets has Syd Barrett on it, but he only plays on a few songs. It'd be interesting to see your guys' take on Barrett era Pink Floyd.
Pompei 2016 is the best for me , there he plays amazing and all are magestic. Also hard work to have those bends perfect all the time, and to play clear the notes on time always needs a very good sense of timing, we talk here for milisecs of differense from other guitarists.
Guitar God on the house!! Someone said that Leo Fender created the Stratocaster and God created David Gilmore to play it. Megadeth´s frontman Dave Mustaine once stated that there are a lot of speed players and shredders, but Gilmore could do more with just one note than most with a whole bunch of them, and that´s a fact...not many guitarists can pour their emotions from 6 strings like David can! Great reaction.

Guys, it's pronounced GIL-MORE with the accent on GIL, spelled Gilmour. The same long haired guitarist/vocalist in Echoes @ Pompeii where he was 25. This is him at 48 years old at the Pulse show. Besides David, the other original band members here are Rick Wright and Nick Mason. The young kid you mentioned is Guy Pratt who took over from Roger on the bass.

If you haven’t already you should check out Since I’ve Been Loving You by Led Zeppelin. It’s kinda similar in the sense that it’s a long, slow emotional but also epic song with a great solo. I’m 17 so pretty young for a classic rock fan like y’all and it’s one of my all time favorites

You could try a VERY GOOD tribute to Dark Side of the moon with "The Dub Side Of The Moon" by "Easy All Star"... REALLY try it.... It's a faithful reconstruction of DSOTM and at a same time a complete different ambiance (Reggae/dub). Strange how it can still be faithful (all sounds are recreated using different "tools", I don't wanna spoil, like "Time" [is the master])...
I was at this very gig. The video editors must’ve toned down the audience because when this was played the crowd were going wild throughout. By the second solo we raised the roof. One of the best nights of my life.
David Gilmour (one of the most talented guitar players in history) looks like he could go to the house fix any plumbing or electrical issue in the house, drop the most epic guitar solo you have ever seen or heard, leaves the house and your wife and dog are both pregnant! He is so good that the guitar is another singer in the band.
If you want to have an "underground cult hit" of psychedelic music, you cold try the band "Sweet Smoke" and the album "Just a Poke"... Two HUGE tracks of ~12-15 minutes, which are pure... sweet smoke ambiance :D... They might have been more know in Europe, IIRC there were some American musicians but it was a German band (you'd have to double check those info, I'm tired :) ).
If you want another live performance to react to, there’s very little better than Stevie Ray Vaughan performing ‘Texas Flood’ live. Look up the version where he plays at El Mocambo. It’s some of the best guitar playing you will ever hear or see.

First of all, there is nothing at all wrong with an Alverez guitar. Congratz. From what I heard, it sounds just fine. In my opinion, learn some riffs and chords you want to learn. When you get bored, try learning some complete songs. Just the chords. Then when you are ready, learn some scales. I would say Pentatonic to start and maybe the Natural minor scale Aeolian which is the 6th mode of the major scale (but don't worry about that right now) But those are the two scales David Gilmour likes to play the most. When you practice by yourself, don't be afraid to put emotion into what you play, like a natural body movement or a guitar face. Do what feels natural to you personally. Don't try to copy an artist, like Angus Young of AC DC. You will look cheap and ridiculous. Just be yourself. People like authenticity when you play. Are you energetic? or subtle? You figure that out. You have a good friend there, let him critique you. I'm almost 71 years old and have played since 10. I don't think you want my years old opinion. But listening to your friend will give you some honest insight he has of you. That is the best possible advice I can give to the both of you. Don't give up. Music is a journey that lasts a lifetime, and you will never learn it all no matter how good you get. My absolute best to you both.

3 of the 4 guys who performed years earlier at Pompeii are onstage for the Pulse show. The bass player from Pompeii left the band before Pulse.

I think the thing about playing musical instruments and singing at the same time is difficult at first, but becomes self reinforcing.

The young bass player is Guy Pratt, he came in to replace Roger Waters after he left the band, he’s actually a super talented musician

The division bell, although releasing in 1994 and coming after “The Final Cut” 1983 (the next album after The Wall) and “A Momentary Lapse of Reason” 1987, it’s seen as their best album post the big 4 (70’s)

If you want to hear crazy live performances, then listen to Swans Are Dead by Swans. It's a 140 minute culmination of everything the band was doing up to that point. I was lucky enough to see the band live this April, and it was insane. It was so loud that it seemed like the whole room was shaking. What was even crazier is that the first song they played lasted 76 MINUTES!! Afterwords the singer asked how long it was, and when someone told him he was just like "aight, damn.", and they just immediately went to the next song. It was fucking great.
You gotta check out "one of these days" from this concert. Its crazy

The entire Pulse concert
Just scored tickets for David Gilmour's show in LA later this year. Probably his last outing. He'll leave most 70's Floyd out of the show, but this song will definitely be played and it's going to be awesome. Pulse was one of my first concerts and have seen many of the solo shows (mainly Roger Waters since). They were always amazing shows.
Saw this at Arrowhead stadium. Best concert ever.

You guys should react to Piper at the Gates of Dawn. It's the first Pink Floyd album and is so different from all of the later albums that you guys have reacted to thus far. Syd Barrett is the mastermind behind this one and it is the last album before Syd Barrett started to lose it. Saucerful of Secrets has Syd Barrett on it, but he only plays on a few songs. It'd be interesting to see your guys' take on Barrett era Pink Floyd.
Pompei 2016 is the best for me , there he plays amazing and all are magestic. Also hard work to have those bends perfect all the time, and to play clear the notes on time always needs a very good sense of timing, we talk here for milisecs of differense from other guitarists.
Guitar God on the house!! Someone said that Leo Fender created the Stratocaster and God created David Gilmore to play it. Megadeth´s frontman Dave Mustaine once stated that there are a lot of speed players and shredders, but Gilmore could do more with just one note than most with a whole bunch of them, and that´s a fact...not many guitarists can pour their emotions from 6 strings like David can! Great reaction.

Guys, it's pronounced GIL-MORE with the accent on GIL, spelled Gilmour. The same long haired guitarist/vocalist in Echoes @ Pompeii where he was 25. This is him at 48 years old at the Pulse show. Besides David, the other original band members here are Rick Wright and Nick Mason. The young kid you mentioned is Guy Pratt who took over from Roger on the bass.
David is a worldwide treasure.
Their is only a few that can play an instrument that actually brings an emotion. Dave is one of the best without lyrics to bring out emotion.

If you haven’t already you should check out Since I’ve Been Loving You by Led Zeppelin. It’s kinda similar in the sense that it’s a long, slow emotional but also epic song with a great solo. I’m 17 so pretty young for a classic rock fan like y’all and it’s one of my all time favorites

You could try a VERY GOOD tribute to Dark Side of the moon with "The Dub Side Of The Moon" by "Easy All Star"... REALLY try it.... It's a faithful reconstruction of DSOTM and at a same time a complete different ambiance (Reggae/dub). Strange how it can still be faithful (all sounds are recreated using different "tools", I don't wanna spoil, like "Time" [is the master])...
I was at this very gig. The video editors must’ve toned down the audience because when this was played the crowd were going wild throughout. By the second solo we raised the roof. One of the best nights of my life.

Gilmore is easily a top 250 guitarist. He’s no Taylor Swift, but he is pretty darn good.

David Gilmour (one of the most talented guitar players in history) looks like he could go to the house fix any plumbing or electrical issue in the house, drop the most epic guitar solo you have ever seen or heard, leaves the house and your wife and dog are both pregnant! He is so good that the guitar is another singer in the band.
If you want to have an "underground cult hit" of psychedelic music, you cold try the band "Sweet Smoke" and the album "Just a Poke"... Two HUGE tracks of ~12-15 minutes, which are pure... sweet smoke ambiance :D...
They might have been more know in Europe, IIRC there were some American musicians but it was a German band (you'd have to double check those info, I'm tired :) ).
Roger Taylor wrote almost the whole of The Wall.

If you want another live performance to react to, there’s very little better than Stevie Ray Vaughan performing ‘Texas Flood’ live. Look up the version where he plays at El Mocambo. It’s some of the best guitar playing you will ever hear or see.
This guitar at the end was voted the best guitar solo of all time by gender guitar and David Gilmour was voted greatest player to ever play the instrument

First of all, there is nothing at all wrong with an Alverez guitar. Congratz. From what I heard, it sounds just fine. In my opinion, learn some riffs and chords you want to learn. When you get bored, try learning some complete songs. Just the chords. Then when you are ready, learn some scales. I would say Pentatonic to start and maybe the Natural minor scale Aeolian which is the 6th mode of the major scale (but don't worry about that right now) But those are the two scales David Gilmour likes to play the most. When you practice by yourself, don't be afraid to put emotion into what you play, like a natural body movement or a guitar face. Do what feels natural to you personally. Don't try to copy an artist, like Angus Young of AC DC. You will look cheap and ridiculous. Just be yourself. People like authenticity when you play. Are you energetic? or subtle? You figure that out. You have a good friend there, let him critique you. I'm almost 71 years old and have played since 10. I don't think you want my years old opinion. But listening to your friend will give you some honest insight he has of you. That is the best possible advice I can give to the both of you. Don't give up. Music is a journey that lasts a lifetime, and you will never learn it all no matter how good you get. My absolute best to you both.
