    We just bought a new Supra SA450 absolutely love it. While shopping we sat and demoed every brand. Malibu was hands down the worst fit and finish boat, this was not just one boat. I went to several different boat shows and sat on many boats, most were bad quality. Screws missing or loose. Panels and trims were missing aligned. Not a good look for Malibu. As far as Master craft boats they were nice but they all seemed dated and years of the past tech. I don’t think this is the case but it just didn’t seem nice. This may have been due to we just got off a G23 and Ri but still I wouldn’t call it premium quality and tech. The G23 was nice AF nothing bad to say and the Fi or Ri almost came home with us. We just loved the Supra more and we have lots of kids and the layout and design fit our needs. We use our Supra in every aspect you can think of, zero issues. 100% satisfied. Sorry to hate on Malibu and MC I am going off the several boats we looked at.

      This info is very helpful, I’m in the process of buying a boat and Nautique S21 has rebate ($135k) for a 2023 with 5yr warranty.. don’t love the colors available, and still don’t think their wake and wave will be close to G-class. Was looking into pre-owned Malibus, Supras, Tige, Centurión and G23’s.. and don’t know what to do here.. my focus is to have a top tier wake and nice interiors/design.

    had 2022 SA 3 seasons and that was very nice, upgraded this year to 2024 SV. The SV is off the charts exceptional! both were amazing boats and the SV needs no additional ballast for great surf wave. fill the 3800 lbs of standard sub floor ballast and out of the box amazing.. also slalom skis very well for a 6000 lb boat! and the surf locker...... on other brands need to spend $300-400 k to get a surf locker and that keeps the interior bone dry if the participant stays out there to dry off after dumping vests wetsuits etc. Supra by far the best high end surf boat available. and can get a loaded SV for under $200 k! and as a comparison a Malibu 23 LSV weighs just 5700 lbs, the 22 LSV 5100 lbs, Tige Z3 5350 even the Centurion 245I is only 5700 lbs. So Supra's have alot more weight than the other brands built right into the boat. 9800 lbs total with std subfloor ballast in a 21'-10" boat! truly an amazing surf wave. In a Nautique you need to get a Paragon 23 or 25 over $450 k to get 2 screens. Supra has three if one includes the passenger mini screen in the count.

    I own an SE and always appreciate different perspectives, especially when they’re neutral so kudos again Mitch for a fair video. In my opinion the loud engine only comes if you opt for the 550 motor. Not only is it loud, it’s also thirsty. However, if if you go with a 450 its substantially quieter, particularly since there is no supercharger. Back to the creature comforts thing something overlooked in this video is the storage. These boats have great storage that is only rivaled by Nautique. I’m definitely not a Centurion hater (cause gah dang those are some beautiful boats) but if you get a Centurion with every ballast option checked, the storage isn’t there. The storage is filled with water.

      I've asked about peoples experience in the centurion/supreme boat owners group. Surprisingly, all of the people who own centurions and supreme said that it basically performs as well. So it's more of a preference, aesthetics, price, layout, features, and dealer location issue.

    Very nice video, Mitch. As always, you deliver very good information in a very objective manner. I appreciate the way you quickly give credit to other boat brands where it is due. I personally own a centurion and love it. However, it is a given that no boat made is ideal or perfect.
    The auto wake system is a really smart idea in theory. I hate to hear it is not that great. Unfortunately, I have had zero chance to experience a supra boat yet. Thanks for the video.

    Excellent video. I have a new ri230 and my buddy has a sl450. The only thing I would argue is that his engine is actually quieter than my Ri. He runs 1200 lead and I run 550.
    The surf waves are not comparable (RI hands down) but his creature comforts are amazing. Love both boats.

      Notice he didn’t point out that all ballast is sub-floor. Malibu is great but their rear lockers get taken up with PNP. Same for other boats, including Centurion. I just click a switch on my SA and I get 3,500 ballast sub-floor.

    • @chuckgym
      @chuckgym Před 6 dny

      @@pb8753 this is true but you need to add way more lead. I only surf with lead when it’s just my wife and I. I take it all out when I have a couple extra people. I love the Supra but they missed it on not adding enough ballast. But I did love the storage🤷‍♂️

    Aaaaawww🤩, this kind of info is really rare and hard to find, and I love it!!!
    Moomba/Supra are among the brands I know the least, which makes your video all the more interesting to watch.
    Wonderful to see so much hands-on experience, so much knowledge went into it!
    My favourites are how you place Supra as a brand, learning about their "innovation culture" and learning your interesting view on AutoWake 🌊
    Familiar mainly with MasterCrafts and Nautiques, I always wondered about the added value of AutoWake.
    Actually I saw huge potential in this feature if you have changing and maybe otherwise non-boating folks on board.
    If you go out with the same riders most of the time, well, different story 😅

  • @alwaysboatin659
    @alwaysboatin659 Před měsícem +3

    Great video. I’m a huge Supra/Moomba fan and actually use autowake. The key to autowake goes directly to your point about not enough ballast. If you upgrade to larger bags to get centurion amount of ballast, then autowake works great, because it still has enough weight after it has drained to make the pitch and roll needed. I’m sitting at 5600lbs plug n play. Oh, and the engine numbers refer to torque (400,450,550). Great video though. The only plus I’d add and why we chose skier’s choice is $$$. Your last con is true. But for the money it’s hard to beat when the #1 boat for creature comforts and wakeboard wake (Nautique) is $175k more. Even the comparable centurion is $25-$50k more (which is what I’m hoping to afford soon…prices are dropping and getting more comparable between the two). Again great content.

      @@dotconnector1746 if I upgrade it will be for creature comforts and rough water ride. My two choices for upgrading (probably in two years) will be a 23’ Supra SE or Centurion RI 246. Both are nice, the Supra is a nicer boat in my opinion, but not sure how much better the rough water ride will be. Oh, and a small step down to the swim platform. I’m not getting younger. 😂

    Honestly you just nailed it! Probably the best video I've seen you do (and I like a lot of your content). I absolutely love the look of the Supra! Autowake is garbage and they should really tweak that. I don't like Indmar engines, so it'll be interesting to see if any changes are made long term now that Correct Craft owns them. Their gel coats are gorgeous and their wakeboard wake is killer! I would add not having a vast dealer network as a con. My closest dealer is 2.5 hours away. Kind of a pain for routine work in the summer. It really is a great boat company though! Nautique, Centurion and Supra are my favorites right now.

    I totally agree with “Auto Wake.”
    I have a 2019 SL550. I do not like Auto Wake and rarely use it. Constantly filling and discharging the ballast trying to equalize the system. Also, I do run an extra 500# of lead for a better surf wave. More is needed but the wave with what I have is awesome enough.
    As for noise, I rarely hear the motor and by the time we are at the higher RPM range, the wind noise is all I can hear.

    Thank you for not hating on Supra Mitch.
    We looked at several brands, even tried to purchase a Supreme S240 (with help from BoardCo) and later attempted to order a new Supreme from our local dealer. In the end, as much as we wanted to order a brand new 2023 Supreme S240, the local dealer couldnt get it together...not even able to help source a unit with the options we wanted from another US Dealer. I just don't think the Correct Craft dealer protection scheme really works all that well. I believe that was the biggest hurdle for us buying the S240 sadly..that and the wait time for an ordered boat despite our proximity to the factory.
    We ended up in a very lightly used Supra SE550 that we bought from out of state, ironically through a Centurion Dealer. Yes the supercharger is loud, and while we are not optimized for any type wave as our small crew rides it all from surf to ski to airchair and foils; we are very happy with our machine...Comfortable, luxurious, throws a good wave for all tow sports, looks and sounds fantastic on the water always getting thumbs up, even from the Pavati crews.
    Our local dealer is great..Not to mention we are also not too far from the factory so thats a bonus.

    Really enjoyed the video. Very helpful. One question... how does the overhead cam and higher RPMs effect fuel consumption when surfing? Maybe we're unique but making trips back to the marina for fuel means less time on the water having fun and creating memories so fuel consumption matters. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

    • @BoardCo
      @BoardCo  Před měsícem +1

      I’m glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful! Great question regarding the overhead cam and higher RPMs affecting fuel consumption when surfing.
      The overhead cam (OHC) engines in Supra boats are designed for performance, which generally means they operate at higher RPMs to deliver the necessary power for activities like wake surfing. While these engines are reliable and offer strong performance, their higher RPM operation can indeed lead to increased fuel consumption compared to engines with lower RPMs.
      Higher RPMs typically mean the engine is working harder, which consumes more fuel. All in all, higher RPMS means worse fuel consumption. Other than completely changing boats/engines, you can try changing your surf settings to try and mitigate the RPM's and get a better fuel consumption rate.
      Hope that helps!
