Am I the only one that’s still confused on what’s going on in this movie?
I think it's meant to be about an artist who's art involves surgery on their own body, and gradually over the course of the film the changes will become more extreme. That's my guess at least.
It's set in a dystopian future were ppl no longer have the ability to feel pain and the body is changing and growing organs that haven't been seen before, and the removal of those and surgery in itself has become the next way to have sex and become aroused since they are pushing themselves cause without pain the level of true pleasure is much harder to achieve
The film has no story to speak of. It ends abruptly too. No pay off, no climax. Basically what you see in the trailer is what you get.

Kind of getting irritated at watching avant garde movies built on sadistic views of someones real childhood.
Its like we get it, you had a fucked up childhood, we all fucking did.
Just becomes way over imposed on cinema as genre defining art.
Its just people who need help in real life, so they run away to fantasy, sometimes you have to get out of the camera and into real life.
Getting a bit irritated too at people projecting oversimplistic intentions onto the director and the film. I've never once read anything from Cronenberg stating he had a fucked up childhood. His films are not about personal trauma either.
I suggest you dig a bit into Cronenberg's ideas and takes on cinema and you'll find this is no navel-gazing vision. I'd brand it smthg like "hyper-cerebral turned visceral" -- the core of (most of) Cronenberg's work is "how to transfer high-concept abstract philosophical ideas to the human bodies with very raw, memorable images", basically how to turn ideas into flesh.
