- We have hit the halfway point of season 3 and get rewarded with another Q episode! Finally we see Q get a little humble by his own ego but does he really learn anything? Katrina has agreed with Paula this season so far has been the most delightful of all the seasons!

This one of the best Q episodes for sure.
Data’s laugh is one of the best TNG moments ever
So this is where the pacepalm picard meme comes from!
Yup
"AU CONTRAIRE MON CAPITAINE: HEEEEE IIIIS BACK!" Man! I love that line! And that Trumpet solo! 😝👍
Edit: (A little fun info about the Trumpet song, which I thought Paula might metion) The song is called "La Paloma" (The Dove) which is actually played much slower than it is played in that scene and is actually considered to be more about loneliness, seperation (From love) and death but, by playing it faster as they did here, it offered a much more celebratory atmosphere, along with Q's little dance.
"What do I have to do to prove myself?"
"Die."
"Oh, VERY good, Worf. Eat any good books lately?"
I LOVE this exchange
This has my favorite lines in this entire series. Between "Eat any good books lately " to Guinan, it's ALL amazing. Also this is what sold many of us on deLancie as Q.
DeLancie really hit his stride here as Q. I can't decide whether I like this one or the Robin Hood one better, though. This one is by far the better story, but there's so many great lines in the other one.
a quote just sprang to mind from Worf.
There's so many great episodes he's in from this point on. Also, the afterlife is not that poorly designed
dude, dont give anything away lol
@@davidr3146 no worries, I charge for my spoilers
Corbin Bernsen has had an extensive TV & Movie career since the 70's LA Law, Young & The Restless, general Hospital - 4 episodes of the Punisher
Let's not forget his role as Roger Dorn in the Major League films.
Shawn's dad in "Psych"
5:43 I like Paula's expression there :) 11:40 "But as a human, I would have died of boredom."
13:54 Data laughing is one of the best moments of the whole series. :D And there's a bit of sadness there too when he suddenly loses the feeling. It is like a dream that you forget, but you remember that there was a dream.
14:20 Also I like how Marina Sirtis is trying not to smile, and they left that to the episode. :)
I love Worf's idea of how to prove Q is mortal - and the reaction from Picard and Riker to his "Die."
Very funny Worf. Eat any good books lately?
Worf's not wrong; I mean, how else do you expect anyone to prove they are mortal?
@@Tantalus010 No, Worf _is_ wrong, that would not prove that he can die, it can only prove that he can _appear_ to be dead, with powers like his, we would never actually know whether he actually died unless he showed up to prove he hadn't. Of course, I choose to believe Worf knew that but didn't care because Q pretending to be dead forever would be just as good as him _actually_ being dead forever.
Well, I mean, Worf is
SPOILER ALERT
*NOT* a merry man.
@@StarkRG Worf said "die", not "appear to die". If Q were to actually die, that would necessarily prove his mortality, regardless of whether the crew observed it or believed it. Worf is correct.
Feels fitting as a halfway point. This episode feels like the "real" TNG I remember and love. You're fully in it now! :)
The secret of Q is that he falls in love with Picard. You can see it happening from the very first episode when he insinuates an ongoing pas de deux, which indeed turned out to be the case. His affection is never quite reciprocated, but in the end, he wins Picard's self-aware if grudging respect and gratitude.
We are so lucky to have such an incredible, versatile actor like John DeLancie. I've always loved every episode he's in, as well as various other roles in other shows. It's so great seeing him to branch out into a more humble, emotional version of Q. I also loved that ending with Data bursting out laughing in that hilarious way only Brent Spiner could do.
Fun fact: John DeLancie had a cameo in the original Battlestar Galactica(Episode titled "Experiment in Terra"). He was one of the "police" that was sent to capture Starbuck right after he landed on Terra. You only know it because that voice is unmistakable.
Yeah, it's a basic Math formula.
TNG Episode + John De Lancie = FUN!
Please watch TOS episode: The Squire of Gothos. The Q have been causing problems for ships named Enterprise before. LOL! Anways, I really enjoyed Corbin Bernsen guest starring in this episode. It's amusing that none of our concerns and worries matter to celestials like the Q. Great episode! Thanks, gals!
Stopped watching another video when I saw the notification! Had to get here before CBS does what it does.
We have to: Wait a minute too long and the evil Coppyright Empire raises shields!
As funny as Deju Q is, it's the adorable Data moments that always stick with me. He's just so...Data, in this episode. Whenever Brent Spiner had good material to work with he always absolutely nailed it.
I think my favourite Data quote comes from Season five's eleventh episode, Hero Worship. I don't want to write it here because Katrina reads the comments occasionally, but I hope you know to what I am referring.
I'm so, so happy for this! I was tearing up earlier over a life-long family friend who died 1:47am ET Saturday. Now have a huge from on my face waiting for this reaction to start. I needed this distraction. Thank you.
The other Q, Corbin Bernsen, was actually a big TV star when this episode first aired. He was basically the lead of "L.A. Law", a courtroom drama which was pretty popular at the time. His career slowed down a bit after that show was cancelled, but after a few bit parts here and there he went on to play the lead character's father in the show "Psych".
Psych is packed FULL of geek references, so it something that should really be checked out.
He also played a prima donna baseball player in the movie Major League which is still a classic favorite for baseball fans.
It was a big deal he was guest starring on TNG. I knew people who hated Star Trek but watched this episode just to see him. Some of them kept watching.
In all of Star Trek there are a total of _five_ episodes with Q that _don't_ mention him in the title. We've already passed one (it's Encounter at Farpoint, the first episode). There, now Katrina can wonder whether any given episode is going to have Q.
Also, Corbin Bernsen was Shawn Spencer's dad in Psych.
Surely there must be some footing in the theory that all episodes 'feature' Q, just not always visibly.
Corbin Bernsen was a big-time TV star at the time, with the lead role on LA Law, which was the biggest legal drama on TV then. It would be like if Emilia Clarke or Peter Dinklage guest-appeared on another show at the same time that Game of Thrones was still airing new episodes.
14:00 Great reaction by Data and Katrina ! ❤️
From Memory Alpha: The Mariachi band plays the folk-song "La Paloma". The English version is called "No More", and was made popular by Elvis Presley in the movie Blue Hawaii (1961).
Corbin Bernson who played the other Q, had played on shows such as: LA Law and most currently season 2 of The Punisher
I can't wait to go from Katrina's laughter in this episode to see her teary-eyed from a certain episode coming in two weeks.
we all know what happens, and we all know how it will affect her, and we all cannot wait to see it
You two having to look up Corbin Berson definitely made me feel old. Well, older.
I was wondering if he was credited as Q2 or QToo
It's a little painful.
@@Ctrlr1981 The trivial for the episode says the had to list him as Q2 for production reasons.
When I first saw this episode, I didn't like it, but after watching this, i have to say it wasn't bad. I guess my tastes have changed as I've gotten older.
Q2 was played by Corbin Bernsen. He was one of the leads of L. A. Law, one of the top-rated TV dramas at the time. If I remember right, he was a Trek fan and asked to play a cameo on Next Gen.
And now I know the birth place of the 'Picard Facepalm' meme. Thanks for that.
Ahh the perpetual thorn in Pickard's side. I love that he gives Data humor for a bit. Welcome to the 2nd half of the season Katrina! The best is yet to come. I love season 3's finale. I would propose doing the finale and s4ep1 as a double watch from y'all since the finale is a "to be continued" episode.
Paula is making her wait. Because of Pond Life
Yep, he's constantly annoying to good ol' Jon Luck Pickard
It’s good to see Katrina and Paula laugh for once!
Halfway noooo. DS9 next? I’m interested in if Katrina take a Kira or a Dax take on Quark.
IDK but Nana Visitor is probably the most beautiful woman on the planet, disregarding that early seasons haircut they gave Kira.
I think Katrina will love the serial drama.
The jury is still out on DS9.
It would be better if they reacted to TOS, that way they could watch all 10 movies in order and not get confused by Generations.
Corbin Bernsen was a big actor from "LA Law," which ran for like 8 years and had only ended a couple years before this, so at the time it would have been kind of a fun cameo.
@@Hankonater You're absolutely right, my bad. Still, a fun cameo people would have enjoyed.
Season 3 of TNG aired at the same time as season 4 of L.A. Law in which Corbin Bernsen played one of the main characters. L.A. Law won the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy four times so most viewers would have recognized Corbin Bernsen immediately.
I always like to think that Q, in all of his omnipotence - was able to tell a joke that was SO FUNNY, it transcended all the known boundaries of metaphysics - so FUNNY that it could even make an anvil laugh. A joke that human beings themselves could not handle. So that it wasn’t just compensation, but a whisper to Data of the possibilities. That’s the gift. (One of my favorite moments in all of Star Trek)
Q He's in multiple series ,He's great in Star Trek Voyager two ,,, you learn alot more about the character,,, Q is also in Deep space nine... I'm hoping to see him in season 2 of Picard..
Katrina's reaction was priceless from start to finish and that episode is of course one of the best of the series and one of the most memable.
If you liked the Qs here, you will also like a couple of Voyager episodes with some interesting Q lore....
But garanteed, you still some really good episodes in this season, be prepared.
I love Q ! He deserves his own series !
LOL! I don't know: He's one of those people who better in small doses! 😅👍
He's great in my little pony , hes just in a different form Throughout the series
Pls no. A light sprinkling of Q makes it better.
Aw you didn't put in ''Just change the gravitational constant of universe'' ''You just do it!''
When data looks back at crew in the middle of gift…..priceless…..must have been one hell of a joke….naturally his best friend ruins it for him….freakin Geordi.( my guess…the crew’s heads were all replaced with spots’s head.)
Love the two Qs talking like two guys at a water cooler lol
I've been guessing that Paula's favorite episode is "The Offspring" curious to see if I'm right in a few weeks haha
No no no. It is yesterdays enterprise. 100% sure.
How best to describe Q? I've always felt the term "magnificent bastard" worked best. He's a smarmy ass to be sure but he's so darn GOOD at it.
People love the Q as mariachi moment, but they miss Worf's reaction. Next time, watch Worf as Q appears. He's defeated.
Corbin Bernsen's role as playboy divorce attorney Arnie Becker on the old TV series 'L.A. Law' (1986-1994), and as the third baseman in the movie _Major League (1989),_ brought him well-deserved fame with American audiences. Not to mention, he's the son of Jeanne Cooper (1928-2013) who played Katherine Chancellor on TV's 'The Young and the Restless'.
LOL!!!!!! Goddamn......i have a foot in the grave, apparently. It never occurred to me that someone might not know who Corbin Bernsen is. His cameo was great in this
Love the Q episodes. Great reaction as always. Hard not to say more ,, but we'll keep an eye out for him.
The problem with watching this after seeing DS9 is that I keep mishearing their name as "Allamaraine"
Allamaraine, count to four. Allamaraine, then three more. Allamaraine, if you can see. Allamaraine, you'll come with me.
Kira playing Allamaraine is everything.
I usually think of the (Mon) Calamarians from Star Wars, but yeah, it sounds a lot like Allamaraine as well. It's like the Tellarians/Talarians/Tamarians etc.
Another Qlever Qirky episode ladies. great one, since it payves the way to highlite the complex and well develop story arc of the Q entinty, who imo is by far one of the most powerful in sy.fy..also complex cause as well see, his arrivals are mostly filled with complex issues as time goes by..i really enjoyed Katrina's expression of wonderment at the interaction between the 2 Qs(Corbin Benson was from a show LA Law-and had a good run back in the 90s)..Katrina's expression reminded me of the feels i got when 1st seeing the episodes when they were new...the Q character is complex cause as series progreseses goes from an antogonist to a being most capable to express truths about humanity's state of evolution and has we could see complex also cause he could be tear down also, but at least to his own philosopy remains true and can call himself even for his own faults..so that makes him honest even dough one might dissagreen with his ways..and complex cause even Picard regards his existance has a thing to learn from. still even now STNG is to me the best show ever..it deals with real mature adult characters who handle their issues like adults should..a rare and scarce thing to see in most of TV history.
This episode reminds me--there's a certain FMV game that Katrina needs to see called "Star Trek Borg" Someone tried to cut it like an episode, but I think it misses part of it, so either watching a playthrough or even actually playing it yourself would be good.
Also, it occurs to me that Katrina may be a bit disappointed by the series finale for reasons I won't spoil.
Corbin Bernsen was a huge TV star. He played a lawyer on LA Law for a long time.
Always a fun episode and loved the reactions. :-)
One minor thing though is that for people who claim to be so enlightened they don't tend to do well when inconvenienced or annoyed as most of the crew are just like, "Pfft, fine let Q be killed. We don't care."
Asking "who's your favourite Gallifrey Gal," could be one of those infinite puzzles used to defeat evil AIs that want to destroy the universe. They would never be able to come up with a single answer and so would be locked in the loop forever.
Maybe for everyone else: But I'm team Paula all the way 😜 (No offence at all to the beautifully wonderful Katrina: It was a close race)
It's like asking: toast or butter - but one does not go without the other ... 🎵
@@daniellanctot6548 No, they are both uniquely wonderful in their own way. Its no competition, they're both great.
Do you rank your friends? I hope not!
@@Helbore - That’s exactly what I said! (✌️😉)
Love this reaction I always enjoy Q episodes I love the fact he kept playing Q through DS9 & voyager as well
Worf has by far the best line in this episode, and it's only one word
Q: What must I do to convince you people?
Worf: Die.
Can't wait for you guys to do DS9 and Voyager!
Funny thing this episode. Enterprise having trouble moving a moon with tractor beam, in later episode they tried to move a stellar core fragment for reference sake is 28 TRILLION TIMES denser
This is my favourite Q episode, and also makes it to my top 10 TNG list.
This is my second favorite episode (My favorite's coming up in about three episodes). Q is everything.
Q as a human was a great idea.
i believe there is still room for Kat’s theory of Guinan being this Q’s mother. 😂😂😂
its commmmming, its commmmmmmmmmmmmmming, its commmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmming. well two things are commmmmmming. I cant wait to see Katrina's reaction
are you girls going to be doing the movies when you have finished the series. I know its a long way away but i reckon they would make good reactions.
I'm more interested in knowing whether they're going to start DS9 halfway through season 6 of TNG so Katrina gets the overlap experience the rest of us did (particularly for the episodes involving crossovers). I suspect that they will be watching DS9, I just hope it'll be simultaneous with TNG when it should be.
Q and Zero tormented the Calamarain, almost freezing them. Took something like 100,000 yrs for them to return to gaseous state. They got a score to settle with Q
Her and Picards relationship origins aren't fleshed out very much in the tv show, they show it in the movies, not the tv show. I don't think you learn much about the start of their relationship unless you watch Star Trek Generations the movie.
La Law pilot episode had an actress who would co-star in a great future TNG movie.
quick before it Disappears
omg you are genius i never put that together and im almost 50! and a life long trekky..... i think you are right guinan is Qs mom..... well she did say her home planet was destroyed by the borg so there might be a flaw in your theory but i think ima go with this as canon from now on......
bwahaha spoken like a true Trekker.......
Great shot of Q on the ground and Guinan in the background
Anything with Q is always a good time.
Been waiting for this episode, love it!
Revisiting this months later - man Q's present to Data is heartbreakingly sad and wonderful.
Can't wait until they get to the end of the season ;)
A new TNG reaction? What a wonderful... feeling.
If this episode taught me anything, it was never to underestimate Brent Spiner as an actor. Pat Stewart was visibly moved, as were we all. Barely a dry eye on the set, in fact. Feeling? Wtf?? Mr. Delanceys' episode, tho. I couldn't be within five feet of Mz. Goldberg without becoming her slave. I'll admit it.
I wonder if either of you have seen The Expanse. I would love a series on that show.
Easily my favorite Q episode
Although Corbin Bernson is known for the Major League movies, I know him best as the dad on Psych.
Been waiting for this...I think most of us have.
Some of My favorite episodes are coming up 15,16,19,21,26
@@rreagan007 They are both rated over 9.0. I am surprised 19 isn't rated higher
A freaking 7.3...the same as 20, are you kidding me?
So excited for y'all to see Measure of a Man!!!
I feel like you are going to have to make Katrina wait a few months before she gets to watch season 4. Just to live the full experience of watching it on TV in the old days, and having some time to let the, uh, events of latter part of the season really sink in.
brent spiner was on Enterprise
Man I wash oping for a reaction to "Red Alert" that was like the only thing I was looking forward to. OK the laugh was another, but that was the major one. I lost it whenever he did that.
I love every Q episode.
Do we meet guinan or guinan son later on?
I can think of one episode with a massively spoilery title that isn’t about Q: I won’t write it here because spoilers, but it’s the one with Hugh.
You are my favorites Gallifrey Gals, you had me at pew pew pew.
THIS IS MOST AMAZING THEORY EVER!
I had to laugh at the generation gap of you ladies not knowing who Corbin Bernsen is! When this was made he was a major star, more popular than anyone in the show at the time except maybe Patrick Stewart. He has a cameo as himself in a Seinfeld episode because his show at the time was one of the the top rated network shows.! This is a funny episode, John Delancie is great as Q!
Q moved the moon as an afterthought. Imagine having war against the Q lol
I've waited for this one awhile haha
This is where Q starts to turn into a good guy
You should do Star Trek Lower Decks. \o/
Q is a fan favourite, but this episode is probably the closest I came to liking the character; like the Daleks on Doctor Who I sighed with resignation when a Q episode was clearly coming up. kerk.
Oh my god! It’s Paula from Things get Dicy!
This episode is so much fun.
That pouty face at the end of the episode.
One of the better ones. Fits in the top 20
The other Q is another connection to L.A. LAW
You've 2 more episodes till you get to my favourite episode of TNG
Before Barbies and Kens, there were Qs!
You left out the best line of the episode..."You weren't like that before the beard."
the best episode.watched it 100 times
Katrina when we see you in the yellow uniform shirt, Paulas gift ?
