  • The official video about Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg, the largest model railway in the world, and one of the most successful tourist attractions in Germany. On the 1.300 m² large layout, far more than a thousand trains, aircrafts, cars and ships move about. A wonder of the world in miniature.

As I researched more and more about this hobby, I found out about all different types of transport from all over the world and became seemingly addicted to this ever-expanding universe. I am from Australia, but it would be my absolute dream to be able to work at Miniatur Wunderland when I am old enough despite having to overcome barriers such as learning a new language, which I am willing to do. Overall, everyone in the MW network has done a fantastic job at putting it all together, and will continue to do so in the future. The scale and detail with over a thousand trains, planes, and automobiles are what makes it a true wonder of the world. I've covered various model railways on my channel, but the scale of Wunderland is something else entirely. It's fascinating to see how each element interacts within such a vast layout. But even with that out or the loop there was still too much going on to take in with just one visit. I had to come back an extra day. But what a city Hamburg is. We went to the fish markets in the morning and it’s a sight to behold. They have huge pots of boiling oil and the fresh fish is cooked right in front of you. Nothing better than a fish that was swimming in the ocean two hours prior and now it’s filleted, breaded and on a bun with tartare sauce and a tall Stein of beer. Perfect

Funny you'd say that. I was a member of a model rail club in the Copenhagen suburbs some years ago, and one time a movie studio approached the club as to film a movie there, or at least for the time being a demo clip. The premise was to be about a girl getting magically shrunken down into her grandfather's model railroad and it all coming to life when people were away and it used a combination of CG and the model train world. The CG actually looked pretty good for just a demo reel from a Danish film studio. Sadly the movie project got canned a bit later by the studio. IDK if the clip is available anywhere but I'll go look for it now

There are a lot people with vaccum cleaners who clean every inch of the complete model world every day after they closed.
Of course some of the little figures get sucked in sometimes, but they get back on their place as soon as they are found inside the bucket of the vacuum.

Trains were so low on my list I never got around to them. But I love dioramas and miniatures, and model railroaders are among the best at making those.
This would be epic without the trains, but the trains are why it exists in the first place and make it sooo much better.
So, if only for that reason alone, I do love trains.
