And Jonghyun's passing shook the foundation of the KPOP Industry. To this day many fans, instead of using the first letter of "S" for Shinee, they use the number "5" for 5hinee.

Lovely reaction! I look forward to more SHINee on your channel. And yes, all of them have a top tier solo work, yet as they all express, SHINee is their home. They always support each other and cheer each others solo like no other. Even Jonghyun once changed the date for his solo concert in Korea to be with Taemins first solo concert in Japan. Tremendous support. Each one of them have such distinguished and most amazing vocals, but together they make magic. And I believe that because of their amazing talents, they are not bound to one genre, but can pull off whatever suits them and fits them, and they choose wisely but are the one group that doesn't shy off being ground breaking or daring. Their last album HARD just show that they truly are the ACE of kpop.

@@DaybombTV As Taemin said; He is happy when people like their music, but he is most satisfied with their hard work...;D They are all equally passionate about their art, and hence they can fully relay on each other. I believe that it also why Onew was convinced to take his necessary hiatus to fully recover, trusting that his fellows will do the job splendidly-which they sure did, and do!!

As a SHAWOL, let me just say that we really appreciate your sincerity when delving into SHINee. It's a breath of fresh air. Most younger reactors are only interested in the newer 3rd through upcoming 5th generations, not realizing that much of what they love about those generations was because of SHINee. In addition, many of the idols in those newer groups actually cite SHINee or one of the brothers as their idols and their reason for getting into Kpop as a career. Taemin alone has such a following among idols that he is called "The Idols Idol" (BTW, Taemin just turned 30 yesterday). Regarding the pronunciation of Jonghyun's name, that's a hard one, however I will give it a go and other SHAWOLs can correct me if I'm way off base. The "J" sound like a soft "ch" sound with the "j" sound mixed in -- if that makes sense. So "chjung-heeun" all run together.
There are a few more videos that will tell you a lot more about them as a group that could be beneficial to you before starting their MVs or album reactions. I've provided a list below, however, you do what you want and feel best doing. We are just along for the ride.

Thank you for the sincere reaction and the respect given to Jonghyun. Honestly, when I started stanning Shinee in 2008, I never thought they'd relevant till now. Not only that, they managed to stay hungry, passionate and dedicated to their craft with bursting energy. They even look younger than some 3rd gen idols. They aged really well. So inspiring!

That specific performance of Onew singing "Nessun Dorma" -- which is a very famous Italian opera song -- was performed in 2016 as a solo stage during one of SHINee's Japanese concerts, but it is not the first time Onew has performed this song, he has been performing it since SHINee's early days. Whether it's a performance from 2011 or one from earlier this year during his solo concert, there isn't much difference -- his voice has matured over the years, but it was still impressive from the beginning. Onew is not trained in opera, but he had been training as a singer for more than 10 years when that performance took place, and he has an amazing range and understanding of his voice. He is also a musical stage actor, so he understands how to project his voice to the back of the theater and he knows how to tell a story through the performance of the song.
One of the reasons why Key chose to come up with funny answers for that questionnaire, is the fact that this Weekly Idol episode was part of their 10th anniversary promotions, so they have been on the show many times and had to fill out that same questionnaire almost every time, and they have answered those same questions dozens of more times for other variety shows. Therefore, after that many years, it has become boring to just give a straight answer. What's particularity notable about the fact that Key said he is from New York, is that he is fluent in English -- almost to the point you would think he is a native speaker. So, if you didn't know him, you might think he really was from New York. He spent some time when he was in middle school studying in Australia and New York, so he actually could pass as a New Yorker.
The amazing thing about Key's high note in "Like a Fire" is that, if you listen to the original version on their album, he doesn't have a high note in that song. But during that performance -- which is from their SHINee World Concert III (SWC3) in Seoul in 2014 -- he, out of nowhere, decided he wanted to add a high note. It's almost as if he decided he wanted to try and outdo Jonghyun, who is the group's high note master and the one who has the high note right before Key in the song. :D That's Key's classic diva attitude.
One slight error in this guide: Minho is actually the MAIN rapper of the group and Key is a sub-rapper. (To say Minho is the second rapper makes it sound like he isn't the one that raps the majority of the time in SHINee's songs.) Minho is credited with writing almost all of his rap sections in SHINee songs, which is proof that he is the main rapper.
Also, Minho more than sings SOMEtimes, he sings just about as much as he raps in SHINee songs. He has the deepest voice out of all the members -- which is why he was made the main rapper -- so SHINee's songs don't often highlight his singing in the same way as the other members, but he is part of all of SHINee's harmonies. Also, by virtue of the fact that he is part of SM, means he also has an amazing voice. SM is known as the vocal powerhouse of the industry because all of its artist get intense vocal training, even the rappers. When you really get to know SHINee, you will see Minho has just as much vocal range as the rest of the members, and that is why SHINee's five-part harmonies are so outstanding. (And especially now that he has to help cover for the fact that they no longer have Jonghyun's main vocals, in the past 4 or 5 years he has been training hard to expand his vocal range.) You will understand once you hear some of his solo songs.
Minho is also known as a top athlete. He says these days he goes to the gym a couple of times a day to work out, just because he likes to work out, but he is also crazy about soccer, and he plays basketball, baseball and golf, and he is good at track and field events, swimming and diving, etc., as well. And not only does he enjoy playing all those sports, but he is usually the best athlete on the field and he pretty much wins every time. There is a reason why Minho's nickname is "Flaming Charisma," and one reason is for his intense passion for sports and games and his need to always win. His dad was a minor league soccer player, and is now a coach and manager for a living.
That is also Minho's classic iconic laugh. He laughs with his whole being and he lights up the room while doing it. In that same clip, Jonghyun fell down because, if you see that full clip, you will see that Minho was spraying water with a spray bottle and the floor was all wet. Before Jonghyun walked in the room, the other members were playing around sort of making fun of a commercial they did for a Japanese ramen noodle company where they were each given a different dance move that they used to crush the noodles. Jonghyun's dance style was Krump, so he was over exaggerating his movements poking fun of that commercial, and because the floor was slippery he fell down, which made Minho laugh even harder. :D Here is that full clip of Minho laughing czcams.com/video/Sc2tP1YIVTc/video.html and here is a clip of the original Ramen commercial that SHINee is in czcams.com/video/0aHRU8v7824/video.html.
Jonghyun -- pronounced like Jung-Hoon (Like flung with a J and moon with an H) in English or Jung-hun (like bun with an H) with a Korean accent -- was the main vocalist of SHINee, but one thing you need to know about SHINee, is that they are all really main vocalists, so they can all fill in for each other, and they have. However, Taemin and Onew are the ones that have most often been tapped to fill Jonghyun's parts in most of their old songs, and even the parts that I think would have been his parts in their new songs. Taemin learned how to be a singer from Jonghyun, so his voice and vocal range is most like Jonghyun's, that is why he is the one to fill in for him most often.
Jonghyun wrote IU's "Gloomy Clock." He also wrote EXO's "Playboy" and Taemin's "Pretty Boy" and "Already." Jonghyun wrote "Pretty Boy" specifically for Taemin and it ft. Kai from EXO -- Taemin's best friend -- as the rapper. Plus, he wrote dozens of songs that became SHINee's songs, as well as all of his own solo songs. His songwriting and composing credits include more than 70 songs.
However, all the SHINee members have written songs for the group, as well as some of their own solo releases.
If you notice, that last clip of SHINee playing charades, and Taemin trying to guess "suitcase," was at a fan meeting in Japan. So, they were all speaking Japanese. As you can see, SHINee are all fluent in Japanese. They are just as popular as Japanese artists as they are Kpop artists. Most Japanese people don't even consider them foreign artists. SHINee debuted as Japanese artists in 2011 and they spend about 50% of their career in Japan doing events and concerts, etc. For every Korean album SHINee also has a Japanese album, but their songs aren't just remakes of their Korean songs, the majority of their Japanese songs are exclusively in Japanese. For every Korean solo album, they usually follows it up with a Japanese album, as well. So their discography is extensive.
And yes, Obama actually talked about following SHINee at a press conference while he was president of the United States. That clip is 100% real.
This Guide video was made in 2018, so to update the information, yes the other members of SHINee -- Onew, Key and Minho -- now also have solo careers. Onew and Key had their solo debut right before they went off to the military in 2018 and they both now have more than one solo album. Minho also had his solo debut at the end of 2022, making SHINee the first SM group to have all its members debut solo.
To understand just how influential SHINee is, check out a video called, "SHINee's Impact in Music is BIGGER Than You Think. {{Deep Dive}} [15th Anniversary Tribute]," czcams.com/video/9trZ7XFOL5w/video.html. This video has updated information and does a really good job of explaining why SHINee are so highly respected in the Kpop industry.
And, to learn more about each of the members, check out their individuale guide videos. The person who created the group guide has also made individual member guides Taemin: czcams.com/video/hH5r88pfH9U/video.html, Key: czcams.com/video/ADUrw9CeiEk/video.html, Onew: czcams.com/video/KK8rLkV5bk8/video.html, Minho: czcams.com/video/Ko9u6IjFzC0/video.html, and Jonghyun: czcams.com/video/7EqwuWuZXcI/video.html.
As you are discovering, SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. It's a running joke between the fans and the members that when SHINee lip syncs you can tell because it's very obvious. Yes, over the years they have become better at lip syncing then they used to be, but now they have gained the reputation as the group that always sings live, so unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, SHINee will always sing live. They have trained their entire career to build endurance and stamina by singing while doing intense cardio exercises -- like running long distances or running up many flights of stairs, etc. -- in order to sing live while performing extremely complex choreography.
You really need to check out some of their live concert performances, because their stages are like none other. Their concerts last 3 to 4 hours straight, and they perform nonstop, and never sound out of tune or out of breath. They are also one of the best dancers in Kpop and they have some of the greatest harmonies you will ever hear.

You're right about them being deemed exceptional for their solo work while still continuing to be active as a group. Among the six SM soloists who have released full albums over the course of the company's history, four of them (Taemin, Jonghyun, Key, and Onew) are members of SHINee. The same four have also held solo concerts in Korea - while Minho's been focusing on acting more in his career, when he does hold a solo concert that would make them the only SM group with every member having done so. SHINee's really something special. As for groups that have been active this long with the same roster - I don't count Jonghyun's passing as being the same situation as a member not signing their contract and leaving, for example - SHINee is also pretty unique, along with maybe only Shinhwa?
You're pronouncing Jonghyun right! Check out the "Excuse Me Miss" concert performance - there's a fun part at the end where he introduces every member, including himself. Also check out "Everybody" at Tokyo Dome - the choreography is nuts.
View 100% did change the game. It was a big shift for them from their previous titles, even with all the switch-ups they'd done before that, and even the very casual styling at a time when everyone had fancy custom stage outfits got them a fair bit of criticism. But if you ask a Korean nowadays what SHINee's "signature" song is, a lot of them would say View.
There's a very long, more up-to-date guide here if you want to watch it too: czcams.com/video/LiYLVmCqazg/video.html. Just be aware that it'll have even more song spoilers. SHINee has a huge discography between their group and solo music and I'm almost jealous that you'll be getting to hear everything for the first time! Enjoy! :)

Thanks for watching this guide! The guide is a bit old so is missing more recent stuff (like only mentioning Taemin and Jonghyun's solo projects) but it does a great job of doing an overall introduction to the group and its members. I recommend maybe something from each members' solos to get to know them and their voices?
For Taemin: Move is his iconic song that really got his solo career recognized. He plays with gender by using female backup dancers and some more feminine choreo and the song starts really subtly and then really makes you groove by the end. czcams.com/video/rcEyUNeZqmY/video.html
For Jonghyun: Deja-Boo! His record label chose a different song for the single for the album, but his self-written song, Deja-Boo was so popular, it became like a second single. So they released this video of a live stage with the studio version on top to promote it. The song is very distinctly Jonghyun's songwriting style. A little jazzy and funky, and so fun. czcams.com/video/TcvDR5xz97g/video.html
For Key: Whatever Key does, he's good at it and he does it in style. Gasoline really shows this off. He goes hardcore with the sound, choreo, and style in this and it just works. czcams.com/video/UNFk6_to5_0/video.html
For Onew: Dice! This is a fun MV with a cute and funky storyline. Onew's vocals are really beautiful and full, and this is really a great summer song. czcams.com/video/xYth9NVvuPo/video.html
For Minho: Heartbreak. The storyline of the MV is a little bit Matrix and the song shows off his vocal talents really well. He really shows that even though he was picked as just the rapper when they started, every member of SHINee can sing. The song is the perfect driving song. czcams.com/video/xRLou1OngWQ/video.html
Every member has so much more though I hope this helps as an introduction to each member's unique style that all come together to form SHINee!

Thank you for your respect for our guys. That means more than you know, honestly. I’m going through your SHINee reactions from start to present, so I’m unsure if you’ve reacted to this suggestion already, but for a perfect guide on how to say each member’s name, I recommend watching the SWCIV (SHINee World Concert 4) performance of “Excuse Me Miss” as Jonghyun introduces each member (including himself) at the end in one of the most iconic moments in SHINee’s history. Here’s a link: czcams.com/video/jSORaqTQykk/video.html
Also, this guide mistakenly marked Minho as the second rapper when he started out as the Main Rapper (with Kibum/Key as the Lead, or second, Rapper). SHINee moved beyond roles years ago, though. They are all five main vocals, rappers, dancers, visuals, etc.

I will always miss Jonghyun, he was the most complex and TRUE artist of the group as well as the best vocally.
He had charisma, vocal power, great songwriting skills, he was a civil rights activist when idols were afraid to express even a small opinion because it could cost them their careers, and he was also sensitive and selfless, to the point of publicize others more than himself (he even postponed one of his concert dates to go to a Taemin concert in Japan, when Taemin until then had not even been to one of his many concerts in Korea, in the city where they lived and worked ), he was really a good person, unfortunately often little considered by both his group and his company and by the fans.
He often spoke of his depression and was prone to tears, which greatly amused the fans and the group instead of worrying them, and kpop fans weren't always kind to him, especially when he lost a lot of weight and therefore physical attractiveness due to his mental health.
I want to point out that the last song he released while alive doesn't have a video because his company fucked up using a concept copied from another artist and therefore he couldn't release it and only one member of SHINee went to his last concerts as a soloist before he died.
    Only ONE!

Shinee is the Powerhouse of KPOP. If not for them, BTS could not have risen to their International level..because it was off the shoulders of Shinee...1st there was Shinwa, then Super Junior, then Shinee, then BTS..
