Codename: Kids Next Door, a classic Cartoon Network show of the 2000s was all about a secret organization of kid agents who saved the day from the evils of adult tyranny and true to form, this video game adaptation (one of two video games based on the show along with Operation: V.I.D.E.O.G.A.M.E. on PS2/Xbox/GameCube) sees the Kids Next Door attempting to smuggle soda to kids who can't otherwise drink it as the drinking age for soda has been raised to 13.
You'll be able to play as every one of the Sector V operatives throughout the game and you can choose the order to play each level as in a Mega Man game. I play Numbuh 2 and Numbuh 3's stages in this video as not only are they my 2 favorite characters from the show, they perfectly demonstrate the 2 different gameplay styles this game uses.
Numbuhs 1 and 2's stages are shooter type stages where they can fly while Numbuhs 3, 4 and 5's stages are platforming stages with the usual running and jumping. Each character is armed with a weapon to defeat enemies (Numbuh 4 however is different in that he uses his fists to defeat enemies unlike the others) and collects special items which upgrade their abilities later in the game. There are also bottle caps to collect and if you collect enough of them, you'll get extra lives and gold trophies.
If you enjoy the show like me, this is just about worth playing. However it does feel repetitive and basic and even when the items start to make each character play more uniquely later in the game, it still does feel like it's missing something. Also I'm not sure about the 3D graphical style the characters are drawn in and the music is even more repetitive than the gameplay. But still it's OK and reasonably enjoyable.
