    I love that Emet sees how sad we are at them leaving again and appeals to our curiosity and love of adventure to keep us happy and going forward. “The future you fought for is not the past we loved.” Now he has given up on the past and is encouraging us to keep that spirit of a better future and not dwell on losing them. He has adopted the thinking the Scions had when we first confronted him and he has now become a scion, to me, and I really would like for him to come back to continue that evolution.

      I don't think you should view him as a Scion per say. As Hythlodaeus said when speaking of Azem. "Whenever our friend calls for help, Emet always comes to their aid". You don't need to be a Scion for wanting to help one of your dearest friends.

      I for one was glad to see him come as an ally. I was overjoyed when the two of them came out of the light. I was like "I knew it!" I was glad to see him as a villain in shadow ringers and as an ally in end walkers.

    When I reached this part, something about what Emet-Selch said in this part awakened a long line of thought in my head. Something I didn't even think about until this moment here.
    It had me pondering for the past year and a half thinking what I'm even doing with my 9-6 job, and I'm honestly quite dissatisfied.
    I then came to the conclusion that I should just explore the world more, seek bigger horizons. Meet new people. Find something worth living for. Roam the Earth and see what I can find for myself.
    Though I may be hundreds of miles away from home now, I think I may have finally found true happiness in my life. Thanks, Emet-Selch. Your last words made me go on my own Dawntrail.

    ** WARNING: Spoiler Comment for Shadowbringers & Endwalker Content **
    Lmao. I love that Azem, Hythlodaeus, and Venat basically exist to torment Emet-Selch with their antics, tomfoolery, and mischief (very much in the same way our character interacts with and sometimes annoys our Scion companions). But I also love that as much as Emet-Selch groans and complains, he always puts up with it. Why? Well, it's partly because it's amusing and entertaining, to say the least, but two, because I'm fairly certain these were the only actual friends Emet-Selch ever had. Or at least, the only people who could put up with Emet-Selch.
    For all Emet-Selch's posturing and moaning, I love how you can non-verbally see that Emet-Selch genuinely cares very deeply and often thinks about and worries about his friends. Not only that, he takes his role as "Emet-Selch," ruler of the Aethereal Sea (the Underworld) very seriously. He takes pride in it, his work, and his friends. As Hythlodaeus and Venat said in Elpis, it's because he cares deeply that he scolds and reticules them. It's because he worries (aside from the "Azem's" and Hythlodaeus, there was probably none that cared more deeply not only for his people, but for all the creations on the star and the star itself). He's very much "the parent" to the three, trying to teach them, look out for them, and wants the best for them. However, he doesn't coddle or spoil. He's very serious, direct, and to the point. But that's just part of his charms. He can be kind and sympathetic when need be, but he's trying to build you up to be stronger. But just as much as the other three needed Emet-Selch to keep them in line, Emet-Selch also needed them. Yes, he's very abrasive and prickly on the outside. But he's always been there for Azem, Hythlodaeus, and Venat whenever they needed him. He's never failed to assist them when they needed it. ...Is it then any wonder why Emet-Selch carried Azem's crystal with him on travels in memory of his friend? Why he despaired so greatly that he created a phantom Amaurot so that he could spend his time in it reminiscing of those halcyon days? Or why he poured more aether into creating a more complete and intelligent phantom Hythlodaeus for our character to interact with? And is it any wonder why throughout the entire Shadowbringers expansion, Emet-Selch went out of his way numerous times and tried desperately to revive the memories/soul/aether of his friend Azem that he saw in us, the Warrior of Light/Warrior of Darkness? Every time our character was overly sad in-game, Emet-Selch always cracked and helped us out or offered sage advice.
    I know in Endwalker in Ultima Thule, Emet-Selch longs for his rest and says that he wants to be no part of a reunion should they all meet again in a new world/new life. However, if there was ONE character in this entire game (FFXIV) that I wish with all my heart we could revive and bring into the Scions as a companion, it would be Emet-Selch (Hades). It's almost downright criminal that we don't get more time with him accounting for how well his character was written and portrayed. FFXIV's Emet-Selch (Hades) is probably one of the most well-written and thought-out characters in any RPG. And I also love that it showcases that real-world people who aren't extroverted, aren't overly friendly or sociable, and who don't frequently use humor, and who are more serious and direct can still be phenomenal individuals whom you want around. Literally the definition of, "yes he's a witty sarcastic asshole, but I love him!" S-Tier all-around.

      Can't help but disagree in the strongest possible terms. Emet-Selch is a good character BECAUSE his story was finite, and his role in the MSQ limited. The character already had two encores; any more would jump the shark, because it would undermine the character and explored themes.

      @@lumbridgegoblin not really the warrior of light and company were in physical bodies going across a small part of the aetherial sea. All we got to see were echoes of a few of the souls there. The only time we got to directly interact with anyone in the sea was Minfillia when Hydealyn pulled the warriors aether/soul to her at the mother crystal since at that point her physical body was already gone. So technically we haven't yet (though there's enough hints that we haven't seen the last of at least Hythlodaeus).

    • @elizawulf8180
      @elizawulf8180 Před 2 lety +7

      10 more years of FFXIV means about 4 more expansion packs, I think. Of them, we have:
      -Othard's Northern Ice
      -The New World (please don't colonize)
      -Meracydia
      -The Southern Isles
      -Restoring the 13th/Void
      -Establishing travel between shards
      -Exploring other shards
      -Visiting the Aetherial/Afterlife
      -Struggles within the Eorzea Alliance and Garlemald's restoration
      -You can consider the travel between shards to be akin to the quest for Tempering - a likely multiple expansion effort of research and discovery, that in the end creates a vital tool for the penultimate storyline.
      -You can consider we will be visiting 2 main places each expansion (Gyr Abania & Othard, the First & Bozja/Werlyt, Ilsybard & Space), with strong hints to the New World and the Void for the next expansion.
      -After that, I imagine Meracydia, the Isles, and North Othard - possibly tying into some of the other shards. And ending with a struggle as various elements come to a head, that ends with something like visiting the Aetherial Sea/Afterlife.
      -There is also room for expanding on past or dropped story as well - from the War of the Magi (Amdapor, Mhach, & Nym), to Bozja, Ivalice, Ronka, and the shadows of civilizations on Ultima Thule...

    • @vikkran401
      @vikkran401 Před rokem +3

      There isn't really a typical afterlife in FF lore. Souls go to the eatherial sea when the host body dies and there it waits to be reincarnated again IIRC. And also adding an afterlife, especially if they allow ''adventurers'' to visit it would be terrible. Warcraft did that and it essentially made every character death at that point totally meaningless. Some things should just best left untouched.
