I have been a regular student of his piano and singing class, and his Jazz Chorus. No matter how old or his physical status, he remains an incredible Jazz Piano Player, Musician, Teacher and a human being worthy of incredible admiration! Nothing can touch that any time, anywhere!
The last of the piano bebop Masters! I wonder if all present that day knew/understood just how immensely privileged they were to be there just a few feet away from the Master. I get mixed emotions of sadness to know he's no longer with us, but at the same time we have dozens of videos and recordings to enjoy him for eternity! Him, Bud & Monk will never be forgotten!
This is pure treasure. Barry Harris is always be one of the most influential jazz gurus that have been teaching the whole world for decades how to appreciate music in a jazz context and get involved into it. You'll be missed, master!
No comments.. The last living bebop legend passed away.. Long live the Students... They carry a heavy load to spread around.. All together with the spirit of him
Wow I think this has got to be my favorite version of him playing this song. It's such an inspiration to realize I can keep getting wiser and more simplistic in my expression of harmony as I age.
In his 20's he was a Detroit legend we heard more about than from. And now he's a remarkable survivor--the pianist who was the favorite of the "most perfect" of all saxophonists: Sonny Stitt.
I don't know what is sadder, the fact that Barry is but a shadow of his former self or all these lost souls that are awaiting something profound from him. I remember some nights in New York when much younger Barry made magic on the bandstand in an almost empty clubs. Where were all these people with their microphones and their cameras..........
I think that Barry still has everything going on fine in his head. He's not senile, he's just physically and digitally very diminished ( ;) ) I'll enjoy his playing and soul till the end. I saw him perform last year and almost cried, so I guess these "people" still have the right to expect magic from him :) If i had the chance to be there 30 years ago, please trust me on the fact that I would have been there, like a lot of people who still go to his class today. Your comment is very degrading and disrespectful for the people who follow him and to him also! Barry of course want to teach and perform till the end !
vova47 he's more profound now than he ever was, really, perhaps some virtuosity diminished after his stroke but his knowledge, harmony and soul has only grown. I spent five days with the master and he did not disappoint; I was blown away, especially by his gig at the end of the course, he literally made the whole room cry with joy. truly wonderful.

Dopo quella del mai dimenticato e grande Bud Powell, questa é una delle migliori interpretazioni, di Like Someone in Love.

Never play a piece Bill Evans or Oscar Peterson made a masterpiece. It's always worse.
