I believe that using the misnomer ‘the west’ is so imprecise as to make this meaningless. ‘The west’ is a sweeping generalization about 30 or more odd nations, that span across 3 or 4 continents, with a diversity of languages and cultures, each internally pluralistic, with its own distinctive politics and history. Contrary to the propaganda, there is less unity within these countries than there is between the so-called ‘west’ and so-called south and so-called east. Geography is not what divides us, no matter how much conservatives and fundamentalists want to turn everything into national and regional rivalries or conflicts.

    I Agree.
These are tectonic shifts in the transition of Era's.
Great swaths of the world are learning from the suffering of The Palestinian People
and are changing themselves and their conditions to support ethical standards for our betterment.
The impact is profound and exponentially transformative in nature.
The swing in the pendulum for ethical affirmation has reached an exponential Momentum.
    The People had Enough.
    * Environmentalist need to understand that within the Palestinian Liberation for Sovereignty. Freedom & Peace
the conditions to meet the Ecological Transitional Moment Of Change is met,
as the power structures are laid bare revealing the circuits of power,
and the diagnosis for Ethical transition rather than just hypothesis.
Only with Ethics as the central force, can the planetary ecosystem sustainably interconnect.
When our Ethics-Centered choices & decisions are foundationally met,
only then can the Ecological reset be sustained..
Universal Justice is the only course for politicians and elite's.
Only Universal Justice can peacefully resolve war & extinction.
Extinctionists, are with their own undoing by their own hands unable to survive past Ethical red lines- Era.
A Truth & Reconcilliation Committee is required to absorb & mitigate systemic malfeasants.
Palestine sacrificed and shed Light on unethical behaviour, capital and its power structures..
The longer Global System Change is pre-empted the greater the suffering of the people.
Generation Z & Millennials will not be motivated for anything less.
PEACE among one another- meaning ALL PEOPLE, EVERYWHERE!!! CEASEFIRE!!! FREE PALESTINE!!!

To ur pointed query of the, conspicuous absence of introspection on part of our media industry i must share this incident with u, Nick n Samantha...
Inaugural of the newsdaily in Old Delhi by Barrister M K G... - - nit yet been awarded the title of **Mahatma....
who awarded /bestowed the title, Peter?
i think it was Subhas Chandra Bose, in 1944, on Singapur radio announcement, bestiwed the title upon him.....
Actually in 1944 on Singapore radio, Netaji gave hum the title **Bapu / Rashtrapita / Father of the nation... while earlier another Bengali R Tagore awarded him the title - Mahatma - exalted soul...!
okay, okay.. Samantha, anyways hv u ever wondered how many Fathers of the nation.. India has, going by the coarse discourse over past many decades?
Championed n cheer leaded by none other than the K - Pandit 5 - G scion, vociferously inciting his cronies n his party workers in abusing the memories of the vast masses of unknown, faceless, nameless freedom fighters... whike all ove the world, leaders hv been apologising, for the untold atrocities, abuses, heaped upon kids, n others by their leaders in the past...!!!
Soooh.. the inaugural of this newspaper in Sept 1924, - - just a year before the birth of 2 organisations... in 1925, who alongwith the INC form the, trudent, troika, since then n to date in shaping, molding the events narrative of the Indian history... vusibly n /, or invisibly...!!!
besides off course the other two equally if not many times more fundamentally significant parties :
    Akali dal - 1920...
    & the Moslem league - Dacca - December, 1906...!!!
generally pplz iignore, more often deliberately the 1920 - Akali dal org, which has a crucial n symbiotic role in particular in this Hindustan times newspaper, foundation n their relations with the promoters...
    the Libra grouo...!
    Libra grouo, Peter..?
Oooh it is the Birla group... 1857 founded - Baangaaldesh... Calcutta... same year in the SW-Bangalore - - Beer Kompany was born...
in the Sw Peter... like in Namibia - Sw - Afrika by the Germans - 99% purity beer komoany founded...?
Samantha, listen to what Barrister M K G said, at the inaugural of this Birla group - H T newsdaily...
"in the present circumstances left to me i'd shut down all the newspapers in the country......except Young India ( which he Edited) its the responsibility of any & every newspaper publisher to nit only not to say or write untrue words...... no suggestio falsi... no suppressio veri... "
    no comments. Peter n Nick...
its a disgrace, Samantha, hv u seen the WSJ - report on the USD 200 million temoke inauguration farce by the Indian PM...!!!
I've seen it Nick, n its a shameful instance of mis reportung to put it very mildly on part of WSJ....!!!
its not abt the mfd fake, fraud controversy abt whether 1.33 crs or Rs 133 crs were spent on the lamp lighting, earlier, by the State - saffron robed CM, ( the numbers itself narrate an undeniable, indisputable narrative, if u look at the past 2 decades track record... carefully Nick) the fact of les miserable labourers - trying desperately to take away the oil from the earthen lamps, is not at all touched upon by WSJ.. hv they reported that incident in detail .?
Why're they trying to "steal" the oil from the earthen lamps?
else it'd be dumped into the river? wasted?
real controversy / E con O mics is far bigger, something else Nick... no point aksing u Samantha, of whether Aj will ever do a searching cimmentary on the lamp light scandal...!!!
    Who fundes 209 million USD?
What was the quid pro quo...?
U mean like the Bombay port city given in dowry in 1661 & many times later, to date, in King Charles II marriage ?
many many other lucrative, gold n diamond citues Nick, besides Bombay...NOIDA township... / Gurgaon... / Siriperembudur / Hi tec citues in Hyderabad, Bangalore / elsewhere.... allexchanging ownership in "dowry." / alliances / merger & acq deals in modern era.. ..
Any ways... Nick... since Peter has touched upon the fundamental Qn of truth, falsehoid, lies ie spinning, twisting, of narratives, besides temole n Dacxa,
let me narrate the 1975 blockbuster film scene...
u see the dreaded dacoit villain flees the prison n promptly guns down / massacres each n every member of the Pokice officer who had arrested him... except for the younger daughter in law, who'd gone to the temple...
abive all... the small kid... & the way that scene has been shot n shown... is a telling commentary...
this dreaded villain, lifts the rifle with his left hand alone n pulls the trigger... killing... the kid...
    what does that signify, Nick..?
one is the known - known - brutal massacre by Dacxa - military guys of the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Family, except for 2 sisters who were away, overseas that fateful day...
as for the left hand shot.. feel it conveyed the, child's play, with which - - fledgeling demokracy was massacred, smothered, gunned down,... in India... besides... - this film released in 1975 ? - - -
South Amerika... Chile - - - coup de'teat... Augosto Pinochet...
yeeaah... Eli Wallach, Moe n Michael - Casino scene - - helicopter firing shots....
There's lot more to it Peter than that...
i looked up casually the star cast n found the kid's name displayed as Master Alankar...
    what's Alankar mean, Samantha..?
precisely... as i looked up the dictionary... it means, ornaments, jewellery... besides ... palta...
    what's palta..?
Palta is a term used in Indian classical notes..7 notes... sung both ways... asc n desc order, front n backwards... reverse order the 7 notes are sung, using few ornaments such as... palta...
there's a whole lot of history, geograohy n much more to be explored in what u told us Samantha...
precisely... further as i browsed this kid's films in the same period... it showed me a movie plit where he plays a polio stricken kid... born out of wedlock... n what was that Bengali name u shared earlier...
    Tagore...
yeeaah.. his grand daughter actor ... married to Nabab of Bhopal... cricketor star...
yeeeaah.. the Satyajit Ray discovered - Devi ji as shes referred to sometimes... 2 piece bikini Devi... approved by her to be mother in law - conservative - Nawab-cricjet stars Amma.. inspite of the bikini clad posters splashed all over Calcutta..then.
anyways.. that movie plot, where this kid recovers to walk... n skate... does it not connekt to FDR...
yeeaah... ornaments u said... the kid's name...?
    Gold, Silver standard... history.....
now since u've mentioned musical notes, Samantha, as always, one movie leads to another... that reminds me of a Hyderabadi movie in the same period... musical film, cimmercially super duper hit then....!
u mean like the Aunt / Mausiji / charakter - Leela, leading to the - famous Naval officer catchung his "adulteress" wife in the act with his buddy... n shooting him... surrendering... u know who was she...?
Hyderabadi - Leela Naidu, then declared, one of the 10 most beautiful women... by TIME mag, w/o, Goan Dim Moraes, poet, author, writer, journalist....
    and another famous Lila...!!!

After listening to this highly regarded British journalist for 3 - 4 minutes, I switched to something more interesting.
The tone of this man, the way he presents himself as a person of integrity and who knows what else. It is exactly what has bothered us so much about the British for decades. When you hear them talk, their movements... it's all so beautiful, so erudite... so incredibly fake and completely in contrast to their behaviour.
Any conversation on this subject should begin by pointing out, albeit very briefly, the incredibly important role that Great Britain played in the creation of the state of Israel and that it is undoubtedly responsible for the misery in which the Palestinians have found themselves .
They did this as true "statesmen", but in the meantime the conflict has turned into a confusing swamp of misery. All because they refuse to name the cause of the conflict but prefer to label the other group as terrorists.
A real journalist is not concerned with how Western governments have presented themselves in this mess. That's so cheap to say that they are handling it so poorly.
And by drawing attention to this, as a journalist you no longer have to talk about the real problem.
A really good journalist immediately took over the conversation and stated that how the government leaders behave is completely irrelevant as long as the West does not recognise that a huge injustice has been done to the Palestinian people, especially thanks to the British. This can only be resolved if the Israeli government enters into talks with the Palestinians, just as Rabin and Arafat did. There is no other solution and talking about how government leaders behave nicely is the biggest nonsense you can imagine.
This is a typical British journalist, looks and sounds erudite, but is silent about what is really going on and what his country's role is in all this misery.
A real British journalist begins by apologising for all the misery his country has caused.
Peter Oborne is simply a residue of how that misery was skilfully hushed up.

It is funny how Qatar, a place where nearly 90% of the population are NOT citizens and have no formal political representation, is hosting a talk on "liberal democracies".
Given that their first election ever was just in 2021, they must really have a lot to tell and teach the rest of the world lol. In their only election held in their history, they didn't manage to elect even one woman.
But then again, this talk isn't even really about democracies. It is mostly focused on criticizing Israel.
Authoritarians around the world have learned that they can use the cry of "democracy!" when they are not getting what they want.
It is fascinating how the Qataris demand democracy, representation, and all sorts of things for Arabs in Israel, but they don't even give those things to Arabs in their own country.

Will you admit, decades from now, that you were a genocide denier? Remember! Admit at least to yourself your fallibility.
This was an excellent report on how British & American statesmanship has slavishly aided and abetted genocide in Gaza.
