    Oh my gosh Jean........every time I watch you I am in awe of your creative talent! I know you have been painting for a long time, but your ability to just drop in color, and ink, and make such a beautiful painting just amazes me! I wish I would not have waited so long to realize how much I love to draw and paint. You inspire me to keep going, trying and improving, thank you!

    I love neutrals as well after taking a Stephen Quiller watercolor class. He challenges his students to do a painting using only neutrals. It was fun and so interesting to do. Your rock face painting is perfect and using the India ink sparingly is so effective that I am going to use my pens and ink more often. Love your round pallet as well and your wonderful tutorial. I am so happy I found your site this morning. Have a beautiful and blessed day from your new admirer in Colorado.

    I have a similar palette for bigger paintings, lets me mix big washes easily. I keep a teeny bit of damp sponge in it, that keeps tube paints juicy for longer. They say this can encourage mould growing in some humid climates, but not a problem for me. I used to glue the sponge to the inside lid and just spray it with water occasionally, but then found it easier to leave it loose in whichever well was empty after a session. It was a sea sponge my daughter found on a beach near us, so it’s practical and sentimental in equal measure! Thanks for a great painting lesson.

    • @karenjames5063
      @karenjames5063 Před 3 lety

      Roslyngal I had a watercolor teacher who recommended this as well and she had her students get a real elephant ear sea sponge and used the sponge to clean the leftover wet paint off the palette but leave it damp just in the middle of the palette and put the lid on until the next time of use. It did keep my paints ready to use. They were not rock hard but softened. I still do this.

    The rock face you paint in this video is my absolute favourite of your all videos, Jean❤️ The rock face itself is so like the Quarry on my daughter & her hubbies property. You can see the blue among the grey in certain light and has just the one gnarly looking tree at the top. I've had a few attempts to copy your piece but have discovered I'm very heavy handed when it comes to landscapes!
    I note how few strokes you make and the various directions you place them to built up perspective and depth but my brush takes on a life of its own and spoils my work - very frustrating!
    I've done a huge amount of painting homes inside & out throughout my life & have figured my hand & brain need retraining😫 😂 Anyways, I'll keep at it until I'm happy with what I create.
