  • Adidas has been making some of the best racing shoes on the market, but there has been a glaring gap in their lineup. They haven’t had a good daily trainer for several years. But now, this is the Adizero SL, and it’s the Adidas daily trainer that we have been looking for.

    Awesome video as usual! It's great to hear that Adidas is back in the daily trainer game. Such a coincidence that the last Adidas daily trainer I bought was your mentioned Boston 9 model. It was their Boston Marathon edition (such a good-looking colorway) that they were blowing out at $50 a pair.
    Adidas has been killing it with their speed/race game the past few seasons. I hope that spills over to the daily trainer sector. I would also love to see what they could do when the focus is max-cushion, easy/recovery pace --- a shoe that competes with the More V4, Triumph 20, or the Nimbus 25

    Adidas's premium lineup with Adios Pro 3, Prime X Strung, and Takumi Sen 8 makes a lot of sense and I love each of these shoes, but the rest in the Adizero line is a bit perplexing. I picked up the Boston 11 and Adios 7 from the 50%-off sales that Adidas had recently and neither of them are what most would consider to be in the daily trainer category like Novablast 3, Endorphin Speed 3, and Mach 5. Not sure what to make of the Boston 11 and I like the Adios 7 for short-and-fast types of runs (10K and under) but much prefer the TS8 for that kind of workout. I don't see the SL being much different from the Adios 7 so it doesn't interest me.
    The SL doesn't seem as inviting for all-round daily training like the NB3, ES3, M5, or my current favorite, Deviate Nitro 2. I need to put in some time and miles into the Boston 11 but it's pretty firm and will take a good while to loosen up. The Adios 7 has loosened up after around 30 miles and feels better now but it's still on the firm side, which I like every now and then. Based on some sneak photos from the recent Running Event, the Boston 12 looks promising and perhaps be the all-round versatile daily trainer that's missing in the Adizero lineup and better compete with the likes of NB3, ES3, and DN2, etc.

    Guess we all are different. I was rather underwhelmed by this one. Rather firm, very low toebox which sort of crushed my toes a bit (although was a bit better on subsequent runs) and did feel it fitted slightly short - well certainly compared to all the other adidas shoes I have in the same size. Only felt the Lightstrike Pro bit going faster when up on my toes more but at my daily training pace really not at all. Lighter than the Boston 11 for sure but it certainly is not "SL" (super light). On the plus side I found a 35% discount code but even at £77 felt I got a budget shoe which TBH I thought is what adidas intended.

    A lot of what you described about Adidas' daily trainer lifecycle reminds me of Hoka's story with the Mach 4 & 5. @Enoch-Root Před rokem

      What did you decide on? I've been using the Boston 11's for over 550km so far and they're still in very good condition, but I have had problems. The hard heel section has ended up giving me Haglund's deformity which is a problem more commonly associated with women who wear high heels, I've also got runner's toenails from them. Previously I had Asics Gel Nimbus 24 which were amazingly comfortable, but much more expensive and wore out pretty quickly. A solution with the Boston 11s would be to perhaps buy a half size larger and get heel pads to soften the heel, but I think I'll just change to something with a padded heel, this Adizero SL looks nice, just wish it had continental rubber, that stuff seems incredibly durable.

    • @Woopigmavs
      @Woopigmavs Před rokem

      @@Enoch-Root I actually ended up going a totally different direction. I was able to get some older model Saucony rides for a good price for daily miles since I’ve had success with the ride in the past. Then took a chance on the atreyu artist for a tempo/race shoe. Was able to get them for about $85 with a coupon code. Only have about 10 miles on them but I love them so far. Feels like a Saucony endorphin speed but slightly wider fit. I’d also seen that adidas tends to run more narrow and that could be an issue for me.

    Really great video! Just bought these last week, but unfortunately they are almost small for my feet, since I always buy half a size smaller in Adidas shoes to get a good fit, here I did the usual but this shoe is shorter than the others! If anyone buys I'd suggest buying half a size up compared to your usual Adidas shoes. Since I'll use it as a daily trainer and it's just barely shorter than what I'd like, will probably still use it up. The foam did feel quite firm for me, but maybe since it hasn't been used enough to soften up a bit. But wanted another daily trainer for a long time besides my Saucony Ride 15, so these will be filling that purpose for me.

      Okay thought I'll come back to this, now that I've been using the shoe a bit more, the upper stretched a bit and now fits pretty well. If not using thick socks it's an okay fit now, not too tight. The foam however is still kinda hard, but it did soften up somewhat. What i really like about this shoe now that I've been using it is the little patch of the super foam under the forefoot, it makes me run with a better technique because I can feel that i should "bounce off of it" during running, I think this shoe made my overall technique better.

One minor note, you seemed to have turned up the brightness on your videos starting around Christmas (maybe a newer and brighter studio light?), so I think some of the details on that white shoe is lost. I'd personally prefer the previous level of brightness, but this is of course not a deal breaker when it comes to your videos :)

    This is a bit of a revelation, I've been looking for something with a bit more cushioning for slow-pace (over 6 min/km) aerobic runs and hadn't even thought of Adidas! I'm currently using the Peg 39 for everything (recovery, base, tempo, strides, long), so you saying that "Everything that the Pegasus 39 is trying to deliver, I think the SL 20 does a much better job of doing it." sounds like music to my ears! I believe you nailed it when you also said that the React foam is a little stiff and the forefoot Zoom Air pocket doesn't seem to be doing much, at least not during those slower-paced runs. If the Adios Pro 3 is available, should I get that instead for my long runs, to pair with the Peg 39?

    It seems to overlapped with Adios 6 & 7, I have both of them.
    I love my Adios 6 as a daily trainer it was my favorite (until I got my NB Rebel v3) , not so much for 7 because they reduced the material at the heel probably to reduce some weight.
    SL seems to me they are trying to fill the gap between Adios 6 and 7, but the lightstrike+ LS pro midsole are too similar with this one (SL seems to have less LS Pro) and I am not a fan of their mesh upper, not convincing for me to purchase a pair, maybe if they are at least 30% off I may get a pair to compare.

      Not enough research has been done since this is a relatively new thing. But there is an argument to be made that giving your feet different stimuli (high stack, low stack, firm foam, soft foam, carbon plate, no-plate, drop, etc) make your body stronger and more resilient. Esp. if you get used to the RC Elite 2 and at some point in time, you won't be able to find them anymore. Heck, even the RC Elite 1 and the SC Elite 3 are different than the RC Elite 2.

      As far as I know, there isn’t any data that says that carbon, per we, is bad for daily training. The shoes may be too harsh, too unstable at easy paces, or too expensive to use every day. But carbon isn’t radioactive or anything.
