    • @SarahDigsHockey
      @SarahDigsHockey Před 3 lety +13

      My question on that play is this: If the plate umpire was going to call interference, why did he stand there and watch the player slide into home as if the play at home was going to decide the outcome? The guy was going to be safe anyway (because of the interference) so he could have just stopped the play.

    • @almostfm
      @almostfm Před 3 lety +48

      @@SarahDigsHockey Just to nitpick, when the defense impedes the runner, it's "obstruction".
      This was a classic "Type 2" (formerly "Type B") obstruction because the obstruction happened when a play wasn't being made on the runner. In MLB, a Type 2 is a "delayed dead ball", meaning that play continues until it reaches its natural end. Once the play is over, the umpires award the runner with the base they think he would have gotten to had the obstruction not occurred. So he was watching the play because it wasn't over yet, and he then had to determine if, minus the obstruction, Craig would have scored on the play

      @Bass Pro Lando was not interference. the third baseman dove to catch the ball, the runner was sliding into third when he dove, the third baseman was laying there. was not interference. if it had been interference, why did the umpire wait until after the play at the plate to call the interference? he would have called it immediately if he really thought it was interference. even the runner knew it wasn't interference.

    • @almostfm
      @almostfm Před 3 lety +31

      @kevin ortega Well, not quite. In MLB, there are two types of obstruction (other than the oddly named "catcher's interference, the offense commits interference, but the defense commits obstruction). This was a "Type 2" (back then it was "Type B") obstruction because a play wasn't being made on the runner when the obstruction occurred. On a Type 2, it's a "delayed dead ball", which means play continues until it reaches its natural end, and then the umpires award the runner the base he'd have gotten to had the obstruction not occurred.
      Let me just add that by busting his ass for home, Craig made that an easy call, because minus the obstruction, he obviously would have scored on the play. Had he just jogged home (assuming he'd be awarded home), they could have called him out.

    • @alexburky9124

      Also, division winners should not get precedence if they finished with a worse record than a Wild Card team. The Bucs 2 years in a row suffered from playing in the same division as the Cardinals and had to do that idiotic 1 game play-off. Players change teams so often it's hard to be loyal to anyone, but they have to thanks to the crazy payroll disparity. You're probably not a Bucs fan, so you didn't experience the frustration of waiting 20 years for post-season ball, only for 2 of those years to get hosed because of a 1 game play-off where the opposing team trotted out their ace and shut it down. The MLB play-offs are exciting, not the drag of the regular season. There should be fewer regular season games, and more teams in the play-offs with longer series. Wild Card round should be 3 games, and every series after that 7 games.
