I watched this exciting game in my childhood and became fan of Matthäus and German team since 32 years. It is very sad with the performance of German team in Qatar 2022, but I belive in their strong Comeback soon!
Watched this as a 10 yr old kid with my father who would come from work in the evenings (7:30 pm local time). We would sit together and watch the whole game on our black & white tv set. ... beautiful days gone by
I remember watching this match 1990, alive. Yugoslavia was playing in cramp, with lots of expectations on players shoulders. The West Germans feared Ivica Osim's talented and strong team, and as a result they floored their accelerators and adrenalin. If Yugos took the game more relaxed and as a fun, they would at least draw the Elf. Lothar Matthaus scored one of the best WC goals in the history of competition, equal was the sheer beauty of football these days when every player was using their heart, brain and physicality. Sadly, only strength and speed is remained today, with first two diminishing progresively

Ladic, a Croat like Ivkovic, was already 27, but never caped a selection in Yugoslavia by that time, however Ladic in 1998, at 35, would win the bronze medal at World Cup.
