    Great vid!!!! A couple suggestions, use pressure treated plywood for the replacement base or at least treat the untreated plywood. Also, use galvanized nails or screws for extra protection for an extra couple pennies. Lastly, caulk the seam if you have to cut the plywood base in half. Thanks for the vid.

      It's a pretty easy job when there are no pipes going through the cabinet bottom. Some of the other videos show a cabinet like mine, with three pipes through the floor. That makes it way more complex.

    • @homemend
      @homemend  Pƙed 8 lety +2

      that does complicate things. You would still do it the same way but measure the location of the pipes, drill the holes for them, then cut the board so you can peice them in. i hope this helps!

    Please guys, wear a mask and gloves! If water was standing on the floor board for a while before it was discovered, you can have some very toxic molds still underneath that board. I've seen more than one guy end up in the ER after doing this type of work, same for dishwasher repair and bathroom vanities. Oh and don't leave the mold in there, clean it out before you put the new board in.

    Damn, that looks easy. My father has an apartment and he keeps wanting to use the original frame that was under the sink that came with the cabinet. The tenants he's had over the last few years were from Turkey, and they've ALL had problems with indoor plumbing. Toilets going over, leaks that never get fixed, and they've made a mess of things. This helps IMMENSELY. Thanks.

      Update; Slight variation on the theme. I made a frame out of three 2x4's cut 20 3/4 inches long, then used wood screws to fasten one inch cross members to the top of them, and secure the whole thing and to cap it, similar to what you said. Mounting some 3/4 inch plywood on top. Bing, bang, BOOM!!! Took me about an hour or so. The ugly rotted parts left showing I'll trim away, and make it look nice.
      Again, thanks so much!!

      Great question
 Any scrap wood in your garage can be used to build the frame if you have none, used two by fours
 Sometimes the big box stores have damaged ones that you can get for half price. You got this

    Thank you so much! Every time I see mine it makes me sad and this looks like it’s not even a hard repair. I don’t have an actual mold problem thankfully (just one sudden pipe failure that swelled the mdf in a big circle) but the look of it was depressing me. I’m going to add fixing this to my to do list alongside removing some awful cove base from my kitchen that the previous owner attached with what appears to be black magic because it melted the toe kick under it.

    Thank you for posting this. I inherited early my mother’s old home. She has mold in the bottom of hers but there’s a pipe running to the floor under her kitchen sink instead of through the wall. Same with the restroom. Her back wall in the rr under the sink is sinking in from water damage. Not sure how we will repair that đŸ˜©

    “
.look like a homeowner’s special.”
.uses old pallets and 2x4s in place of a properly build frame.
    I frame mine in 1x4 oak around the perimeter, all pocket screwed together. I use scrap 1x4 to set the height in the 4 corners. Don’t forget the brace in the middle if needed.
    After setting in the plywood, protect it with adhesive contact paper, preferably a vinyl product. Covers the seem as well so future leaks don’t go through the seem and into your pallet wood.

      Hey wii. Pallets from the Home Depot. They don’t mind giving a few away at times buy a simple 2x4 frame will suffice!

    Hi! How can I tell if it is mold or mildew? I am super scared of mold. It is in my elderly mom's house under kitchen sink. I got the leak stopped- but I am afraid to clean the cabinet- it has black stuff. I am pretty sure I did the wrong thing and sprayed clorox bleach all purpose cleaner on it but have since heard that bleach wasn't a good idea. Any suggestions on what to do? Any help is appreciated.

    • @homemend
      @homemend  Pƙed 2 lety

      Hi Catherine. You are awesome first of all. Second I like to use a mold and mildew killer. They only offer one at the Home Depot. There is also some mold armor stuff that is pretty awesome that kills removes and prevents. The difference between mold and mildew? I’m no expert but I know mold keeps growing. That mold armor stuff it’s pretty awesome. Make sure it’s Well ventilated when you’re using it if you want to taste your lunch that day. I hope this helps and thank you so much for doing your moms house!
