      Went to the armor OSUT at benning and that’s always what I’m going to call it. Hal Moore was a badass though.

      Fort Benning Basic 1967, Fort Gordon AIT 1968, Fort Benning Jump School 1968. YES, ALWAYS FORT BENNING.

      @scottymemes9264 no doubt. Hal Moore was a giant among men. I think the man deserves his own PROPER base as his namesake. The way the USG just uses his name to paper over another name from our history deemed "inconvenient" seems like a cheap move.
      By no means do I wish to make this political, because it isn't. It's not an issue of politics, but an issue of a lack of respect for history and the people who make it, especially someone like Hal Moore.

    I was never so proud in my life until i walked the Airborne walk and came home to see my mother with my jump wings, Air Assault wings, my Corcoran jump boots spit shined and with pants bloused, wearing my garrison cap with paraglider patch, and the Screaming Eagle patch on my shoulder.Best damned day of my life hugging my mom close that day! Seeing the pride for me in her eyes.R.I.P. Ma! I'll see you in heaven someday. XOXO.

      I understand what you are saying . I have two degrees from a Good school. I was the first in my family to go and graduate from college . Aside from the birth of my little guy graduating from Parris island the happiest and proudest moment in my life. But like I said. They are a distant third from getting married and having children

    Just finished another rewatch of Band of Brothers. Despite its historical inaccuracies it’s still a damn good show with great performances, historical authenticity, and action. I’m interested in reading some of these books on and by the members of Easy Company. I think my first book will be Fierce Valor: Ronald Speirs. Great first part 👍

      No problem. A lot of this series obviously comes from his memoirs which is really the only comprehensive history of Easy. David Websters book doesn't cover anything prior to D-DAY so isn't much help. Malarkey covers a little bit.

    Fort Benning is known as fort Benning. Absolutely no one excepts those name changes. It's a hot button topic, that it's probably best to avoid for the purposes of what you're doing.
    Just call it fort Benning and leave it at that.

    • @War_And_Truth
      @War_And_Truth  Před 26 dny +1

      I call it what its referred to in the history of the time which is Fort Benning. Its just a clarification as not everyone lives in the US and is aware of the controversy.

      I did Basic, OSUT, AIT, Airborne, part of my Ranger School there at Camp Darby and Camp Rogers, and then returned for Pathfinder School. I have no problem with the name change. I thought it was a relic of appeasement to southern pride to name forts in southern States after Confederate generals. Not to mention, that ideologically, I oppose everything the Confederacy stood for. So as far as I'm concerned, good riddance. No more celebration of the Confederacy.
