  • Things To Do in ZAGREB Croatia. I’m Rok and I’ve spent last 8 years travelling around Europe as a tour guide and I want to show you my favourite 10 Things To Do In Zagreb Croatia. I prepared Zagreb travel guide to help you organise your trip to Zagreb. I will take you around Croatian capital city Zagreb, to show you my favourite Zagreb Attractions.
Here is my Top 10 Zagreb list:
    00:00 - Intro
    00:24 - 10. King Tomislav Square
This is one of the biggest squares in Zagreb named after king Tomislav, the first Croatian king from 925. Behind this square there are two more parks and that connect Main Train station with the city centre.
02:32 - 9. Zagreb museum of broken relationships
Zagreb has more museums per capita than any other city in the world. They also have different and interesting museums like this museum devoted to break-ups. Inside is a large collection of seemingly random items, each accompanied by a panel explaining their significance to a relationship that didn’t work out or ended in a tragic way.
    03:35 - 8. Mirogoj Cemetery
It is half park, half cemetery. This is considered to be one of the most beautiful cemeteries in Europe.
    04:35 - 7. Zagreb main square - Ban Jelačić
This is Zagreb main square and the social heart of Zagreb. Most of the buildings around the square date from the 19th century. This is the best starting point in Zagreb since this square is part of pedestrian area and you are within walking distance of all the major attractions. In the middle of the square there is a statue of a national hero after whom the square is named.
    06:25 - 6. Dolac market
Most visited and best known Famers market in Zagreb. It is a combination of traditional open market with stalls and a sheltered market below. In the open air part of the market farmers from surrounding villages come to sell their home grown fruit and vegetables. In the covered market are butchers, fishmongers and ladies selling cheese and cream.
    07:47 - 5. Tkalciceva Street
Before this street emerged here was a creek separating two towns that didn't like each other too much: One was Kaptol, town for clergy and the other was Gradec town for artisans and tradesmen. In late 19 century they covered a creek and this street was created. At the time it was famous as the red light district full of brothels. Today it is a popular pedestrian café street lined with cafes, restaurants, and small shops on both sides.
    09:08 - 4. Stone Gate
The only remaining gate from the old city wall of town Gradec, one of the two old towns of todays Zagreb. This gate were built in 13 century and besides being a historic gate they serve as an open-air chapel. If you come here, take a moment, light a candle and pray for health, happiness, good luck and love.
    11:16 - 3. Zagreb Catedral
The tallest building in Croatia, with 108 meters or 355 feet. It is a Roman Catholic church from 13 century built in Gothic style. It has a status of cathedral and it is the most important church in Croatia.
    13:37 - 2. Zagreb tower - Lotroscak tower
Tower was built in the 13th century to guard the southern gate of the Gradec town wall one of the two old towns of todays Zagreb. It was named after the bell in the tower that rang every evening before the town gates closed. Later tower served as a prison. Nowadays it houses a gallery and an art shop, and the view from the top is well worth the climb. This tower also holds one of Zagrebs landmarks, Zagreb cannon named Grič cannon that fires every day at noon.
    15:46 - 1. St. Mark Church - Zagreb church
This is one the oldest buildings and one of Zagrebs landmarks. It is roman catholic church constructed in the 13th century. It has uniquely colourful tiled roof featuring the coat of arms of Zagreb and coat of arms of Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia. The Gothic portal, composed of 15 figures in shallow niches, was sculpted in the 14th century. Sculptures presented Virgin Mary with the Child, Christ, St.Mark and the apostles.

Very well excellent done. Have seen many travel vlogs of people just wandering around wanderlessly and they make the city look boring, whereas it is in fact a nice, vibrant city to visit. I always visit ZG when I go to Croatia if even for a night - and even in the summer (although it's pretty empty then as most people are on the coast ).
Croatia is not only about the "coast" - I think you need to defintely visit capital and inland areas to get a whole better understanding of the country as a whole.

This was great, thank you so much! I'm just doing research on where to go in Zagreb as we're only there for a short time and you've made this so easy for me to figure out. I do have one question, I found a viewpoint bar called Zagreb 360 where they have cocktails/drinks and beautiful views of Zagreb, it's right near the main square. When I went to the website it said temporarily closed, do you know anything about it, if it's now permanently closed? Thanks again for an amazing video

Hi Rok, its me again, i habe another question.. is one day enough to explore zagreb city?
Can you also please send me details, the best and easiest, and cheapest way to go to Plitvice national park. How far is this from Zagreb Town? Thanks so much. ❤️🙏

    • @rokgoesaround
      @rokgoesaround  Před 2 lety +2

Yes, you can see most of main attractions in one day. Bus from Zagreb to Plitivce takes about 2.5 hours and is the cheapest option. But considering you have a child, maybe renting a car would be a good option. National park Plitivice is in the forest and if you need to buy something, or get somewhere it might be a problem if you use only public transport.

I dont believe that Zagreb's Cathedral is most important church in Croatia....I believe all of them are...
Catholic Cathedral of Saint Duje in Split is oldest Catholic Cathedral in the world, just the gates itself are 900 years old...made by Croatian 'zanatlija'(artisan)...
Then you have Catholic Church of Saint Mauro in Poreć,Saint Vid in Rijeka,etc...
